For those who have not heard, GoDaddy created the new position of domain investment community manager. The person will serve as a liaison to the domain investor community, helping domain investors with GoDaddy services, and providing feedback from the investor community to GoDaddy on ways to improve its services.

And the first person to fill that position is someone very well known to the NamePros community, @James Iles !!

Congratulations to James on this new position, and to GoDaddy on creating the position.

Hat tip to Andrew @DomainNameWire for breaking the story today (see https://domainnamewire.com/2022/12/...daddy-as-liason-to-domain-investor-community/)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Good luck to him on his new job. Hope he continues to blog about Domain discoveries.

That is welcomed news. James has done a nice job with his weekly summaries on Namepros. He'll probably be a great asset to the company.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate your kind words. I hope to really bridge the gap between GoDaddy and the domaining community.

@silentg I hope to still be able to blog about domain discoveries, etc. I love doing that.

Congrats & good luck!

Excellent.

I can't even remember how long I have been saying that GoDaddy needs a representative within the domain investment community.

For a company worth billions of dollars, they have had very limited engagement with domain investors.

Having a full time liaison to the domain investment community could be beneficial for everyone.

Thanks Brad, I hope it will be beneficial, too.

Congratulations on your new job, James!

Maybe you could help me connect with the right person? I have two domains that I'm not receiving the opt-in emails from GoDaddy for Fast Transfer. Afternic says I need to contact GoDaddy but I don't know who to contact (and based on previous experience, the chat support is NOT a viable option).

Heartiest Congratulations!
How to get in touch with you regarding clarity on any GoDaddy Service/issue.
Thanks.

Sorry for ignorance, but what exactly will be his role in plain English?

liaison

a sexual relationship, especially between two people not married to each other

I don't exactly catch this drift.

communication or cooperation which facilitates a close working relationship between people or organizations.

It basically just means a connection between parties. James would be like the go-between for GoDaddy and domain investors.

It might help if @James Iles expanded on what domain investors can expect.

What is your job description?
What type of things can you help with?
What is the best way to contact you?
etc.

Yes, a detailed list of areas of responsibility would be helpful.
My main question is this position related more to small scale issues, like someone has a problem with a specific domain or situation, or big scale issues like "How can GoDaddy improve"...or maybe a combo of both?

If it is related to what GoDaddy can add or how they can improve when it comes to domain investors, I would suggest creating a thread on NamePros looking for feedback and suggestions.

Great initiative (y) I have a feeling that positive things could come out of this in terms of domain investors` perspective. Congrats @James Iles wishing you good luck with the new challenge.

I totally agree with this, or even possibly a couple of threads, one on issues of GoDaddy the registrar, and one on the marketplaces, Dan and Afternic and Uniregistry, since the issues might be easily separated.

I think this thread would be a really useful way to compile suggestions, and for @James Iles to, when appropriate, respond or explain other factors related to the suggestion.

Thanks for the great suggestion, @bmugford.

Congratulations @James Iles with you new role, I really appreciate you doing this.

Perhaps you could read this thread with some suggestions on creating an "official" Afternic thread with ideas to improve your services (not only Afternic bug reporting and negativity). As you can see there, mods have also tried reaching out to reps from GoDaddy and Afternic, unfortunately without success.

Good luck.

Congrats @James Iles I am assuming they tested to see if you have the patience of a saint? 😅 We are a demanding bunch. Just look at the DAN thread…

Great questions.

My job is fairly broad and wide-ranging, but it comes down to bridging the gap between GoDaddy and the domain industry. As things ramp up, I'll be providing value to the domain industry through any means possible, including through writing, sharing insights, tips for GoDaddy products, and more.

It also involves connecting with domainers and sending your feedback to the right people so that GoDaddy can hear what domain investors think of the products and services GoDaddy provides in a constructive manner. As for issues I can help with, my role isn't as a support operative, but I can connect you to the right people within GoDaddy to help with issues that might arise and help you to stay on top of those problems to get them resolved.

The best way to contact me is through my email (jiles (at) godaddy.com), a DM here at NamePros, or on Twitter @jamesiles.

This is a brand new role, and a brand new environment for me (GoDaddy), so it will take some time to get up to speed, but overall my aim is to make GoDaddy a better place for domainers.

Congratulations @James Iles with you new role, I really appreciate you doing this.

Thanks for letting me know about this. I'd be open to that and happy to discuss it internally at GoDaddy and with the NamePros mods.
