I am new to the domain business, and my financial condition is not good, so I want to work only with XYZ domain; is it possible to succeed with XYZ domain?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Probably not..

With all the premium renewals, xyz is not a domainer friendly extension, let alone a domainer in financial difficulty.

IMO

To the best of my knowledge,

This business needs both - money and patience.

And a lot of it.

Good, short, pronounceable, brandable, meaningful 2 words, .com is the key to the success.

Rest is gamble.

Thank you very much for your nice advice, I want to sell a domain for no more than 100$, in this case can't I work with Xyz domain?

if your financial condition is not good, I would first work on the improve that one by (real world) work & earnings.

Domaining is a longterm game, and you have to renew domains.

Price is not an issue but finding a buyer is definitely is.

Everybody here knows how to register .XYZ for less than a dollar.

.XYZ domains are available everywhere on sale/auction and bargain bin.

Go to the - bargain bin section and you'll find all domains under $20 on sale. Even some good .com names. Generally everyone prefers .com over .XYZ.

Even I have some 4L .XYZ and nobody had offered me $100 for them or anywhere around it. I will probably offer some of mine 4 letter .XYZ for $100 or less with a happy face 😊

Obviously, if some one have patience, lots of short and meaningful .xyz and lots of money to renew them for years. Then s/he is definitely a .XYZ domain Queen/king.

Better to have ten nice quality dot coms than 100 xyzs or other extensions that never sell.

Newcomers should stick to dot com and learn before you buy. Not just any old domain sells. You have to study a bit on best keywords and practices. Pick a niche you know something about to start. Most bad registrations are from non English speakers, at least at first.

NameCheap has a promo for dot coms right now that is about as low as its going to get if you are talking about doing some hand registrations.

That's not how it works. You need atleast 100 domains to make one sale in an year. ( Because that's the average sell through rate you can expect for .xyz) . If you register 100 names for 100$ now ( it is difficult to find quality one word names which are being sold ), you may sell one name by the end of the year for 100$ (as you priced). Then you need to pay minimum 10% commission at the market place you sold. You will be left with 90 dollar means already in 10 dollar loss after spending all the time and effort. Then if you want to renew the other 99 names you registered, you have to find another 990 dollars. So 100 $ sale is possible, but not sustainable.

I wouldn't choose domaining without a budget and from already reading knowing who end user is. You may find too much time invested for small return.

Based on our experience, .com is still top tier. XYZ gained familiarity lately but who knows! Best of luck!

Be aware that .xyz has a " SPAMMY " reputation

Domaining is not a quick getting money game. You bought 1 very good domain, no guarantee it will be sold in 1 month or even 1 year. Sometime you bought a good domain, renewed many times and it is sold.

To invest in domains, you have to be ready waiting for long time and pay renewal fee many times before it is sold.

No one knows the future, but yes, I personally likes .XYZ after .com. Good Luck.

Instead of multiple .xyz extensions how about keep searching and finding few good .com domain that you can register and sell it faster. There should at least one .com dictionary word domain which can have good demand, but not yet registered.
As others mentioned, with regards to the .xyz it may take more time comparatively. If by any chance you are registering a .xyz, make sure its exact matching domain name and would also have demand from some commercial enterprises or business.
