I believe that President Biden was right when he said that Russia is going to Invade Ukraine.

Any intelligent person is going to come to the same conclusion knowing that Russia has already decided to pay any price imposed on it by the West through sanctions.

Short of full military confrontation by the West there is nothing that can make Russia to change its mind as they see this as a golden opportunity to resurrect the once powerful superpower that was equal to the USA.

But Russia’s ambitions are not going to stop with taking over Ukraine since it already has made plans to increase its sphere of influence to Asia, Middle East, and South America and perhaps the whole World knowing that the West is most likely not going to do anything beyond just imposing sanctions which ultimately will hurt the West itself by effecting the Global economy in an adverse way the longer that they go on.

I personally don’t like any of the old ideologies, philosophies, and doctrines of Capitalism, Communism, Socialism, Religious Fundamentalism and all the other “ism” that are derived from the bad human characteristics of Greed, Lust, Hate, Cruelty, Jealousy, Prejudice, and lack of Empathy and that have been infringing on our rights in one way or another throughout the history because they can only exist through supporting inequality, oppression, suppression, torture, killing, and War.

When it comes to saving the World the last thing that I want to see is the further expansion of these old systems that have all already proven to be a failure in dealing with the existential problems that are currently facing Humanity and the Environment.

We don’t want all these political, Religious, and Racial parties and groups to resurrect their past, we want something new that can propel the World into the next Era that is based on the Universal Principles and Values that have been derived through Logic and Compassion and not through Force and Violence.

By “We” I mean all the Intelligent, Righteous, and Peace loving people of the World.

IMO

The incident in Poland reminds me of the Cold War... when JFK gave a speech before the United Nations he said, “Every man, woman and child lives under a nuclear sword of Damocles, hanging by the slenderest of threads, capable of being cut at any moment by accident or miscalculation or by madness...” , shortly thereafter, the Cuban Missile Crisis.

This recent barrage of missiles fired into Ukraine by Russian aggression, leading to a stray missile landing in Poland killing two again has me pondering, "how close are we to a nuclear exchange today?"

Can we not have ☮️?

However, in light of what's happening on the ground in Ukraine, there has to be a peaceful solution, otherwise inevitably there will be escalation and then there's no turning back. The West needs to understand their culpability in trigerring Putin and his army to commit these egregious war crimes, the fighting must stop and Ukraine's country restored. No one wins in a stalemate.

On another note, Baltic states have been put on high alert after rogue missile hit Poland. Canadian commander says NATO forces in Latvia would defend against Russian forces only 200km away...

Finland too, is prepared for a Russian invasion, with a conscription army strength of 285,000 men...bunkers ready for every citizen including Santa's Village. Bomb shelters are mandated by law - built under every apartment block since the 1940s...

Fossil Fuels Kill

Ukrainian human rights lawyer Oleksandra Matviichuk addressed an audience at COP27 from Kyiv...

“As a Ukrainian, I can see how fossil fuels have powered Russia’s war machine for too long,” she said. "Russia has never been punished for its crime in places like Chechnya or Georgia because the world depends on its oil and gas."

Ukraine’s pavilion at the UN climate conference in Egypt is built of austere, dark gray walls. It feels like a bomb shelter, a bit out of place among all the brightly colored structures erected by other countries that are showcasing climate solutions and celebrating natural beauty. The contrast is intentional. The Ukrainians with a clear mission: to highlight the damage caused by Russia’s aggressive war – a war that is funded mostly by oil and gas revenues.

"Ukraine has found many new allies among climate activists at the conference by making a clear link between fossil fuels and the invasion. Protests against the war and other conflicts have become part of the daily demonstrations at COP, where 'fossil fuels kill' is one of activists’ key messages."

NATO's secretary-general said the blast was likely caused by a Ukrainian air defense missile that went astray, but that Russia was ultimately responsible because it started the war.

Poland has been conducting its own investigation into what happened. The investigation is expected to conclude that Ukraine fired the missile.

"Poland and the Baltics have been warning for some time that there is a real risk of something happening that draws the West into a wider conflict," said one European diplomat. "What happened on Tuesday makes it clear that this war is not managed, it is not controlled."

Just as Russia has been relentless in their missile offensive, so too has the Ukrainian army has been relentless in their counter-offensive on the ground. Winter is coming, who will it favour?

"The weather will certainly impact logistics and there will be some natural effect," former Ukrainian defense minister Andriy Zagorodnyuk. "But I do not think Ukraine will delay the counteroffensive operations ...it is not in the interest of Ukraine to allow any rest period to the Russians,.They will use it to improve their defense lines across the front, recover and replenish the troops. We shall give them no such opportunity."

"But winter conditions will pose a serious challenge."
said Voyger, professor at American University in Kyiv, "At some point, the rains will begin and the ground will get muddier...it comes down to whether you can actually move in this pervasive mud... the more you wait, the more the Russians will entrench themselves," he said. "Probably it's better for the Ukrainians to keep advancing while the Russians are in disarray."

From the UN: Sustainable Development Goals in Ukraine

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a global call to action to end poverty, protect the earth’s environment and climate, and ensure that people everywhere can enjoy peace and prosperity...goals the UN was working on in Ukraine since 2018.

https://ukraine.un.org/

Statement of the Secretary-General – on the renewal of the Black Sea Grain Initiative

The United Nations is fully committed to supporting the Joint Coordination Centre so that this vital supply line continues to function smoothly. The United Nations is also fully committed to removing the remaining obstacles to exporting food and fertilizers from the Russian Federation. Both agreements signed in Istanbul three months ago are essential to bring down the prices of food and fertilizer and avoid a global food crisis.

The International community addresses the breaches of the UN Charter and Geneva Convention:

More than 8 months into Russia’s armed attack on Ukraine and the ensuing escalation in hostilities the UN reports widespread abuse, torture of prisoners of war

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), through its Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (the Mission), has been documenting the treatment of prisoners of war (POWs) and the conditions of their internment through interviews with POWs, as well as with witnesses and relatives of captured servicepersons. So far, OHCHR has interviewed 159 POWs (139 men and 20 women) held by the Russian Federation (including by affiliated armed groups), and 175 POWs (all men) held by Ukraine.

For the first time in my life I forgot about my birthday, it turns out today, thanks to the forum for reminding me. I don't know what to do... faster our guys would drive these inhumans from the Ukrainian land. Does Europe really not understand that the russians would not have stopped in Ukraine while putin was at the helm...

Best wishes,
Tatiana

Difficult to celebrate under difficult times, but Ukraine has shown the world that Russia will not pass. :punch:

Thx.

Guys, maybe someone has a diesel generator or a gasoline generator, which is not a pity to give that we would definitely have heat and light in winter. My mother and I will not return to Mariupol since she is a state employee, and in Kramatorsk it is also dangerous and partially destroyed grandfather's apartment. Since April, my mother and I have changed 4 places of residence and are looking forward to the liberation of Mariupol and the end of the war.

my birthday, it turns out today,
For your sake (and your mothers) do your best to do what you would normally do to celebrate your birthday. Although this is a terrible time for you and your nation, it is okay (possibly necessary) to keep traditions of all types going strong despite what has been thrust on you. On your birthday next year I hope you, she and all those displaced will be back home and filled with happiness.

Thank you for your wishes.
We are too waiting and hoping. It is impossible to celebrate as before... The only thing is that we can try to make a family dinner and invite another family of immigrants, whom you have already met here and live next door... Thanks for idea!

That is a very reasonable and humble request. I would be willing to pitch in to help you purchase one. 🤗

Is it even possible to purchase a portable generator in Ukraine atm? They must be selling at a premium on the street, do any local stores carry them? Shipping generators overseas is not an easy task, (esp. war-time), so you would have to source one there. NA generators run 110-120VAC.

Cannuck - Thank you for your participation, responded to private messages.

Here where we live now in stores is VERY expensive due to the situation. It is easier to choose and order from Ukrainian internet stores and receive by Nova Poshta

European Parliament votes to declare Russia a 'state sponsor of terrorism'

https://www.euronews.com/my-europe/...-declares-russia-a-state-sponsor-of-terrorism

"The European Parliament has declared Russia as a "state sponsor of terrorism" over the "brutal and inhumane" acts inflicted upon Ukraine and its citizens since the launch of the invasion.

"The deliberate attacks and atrocities carried out by the Russian Federation against the civilian population of Ukraine, the destruction of civilian infrastructure and other serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian law amount to acts of terror against the Ukrainian population and constitute war crimes," MEPs said in a non-binding but highly symbolic resolution.

"In the light of the above, (the European Parliament) recognises Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism and as a state which uses means of terrorism."
