The rise of ad blocking is beoming an increasing concern for those parking their domains for revenue. Since the blocking is now so prevalent, one simple question arises. If you are trying to sell the domain, is it unwise to have a lander with these parking ads, one that then provides a link to the marketplace or some contact info for the sale?

Would this link to the "for sale page or info" generally be blocked as well?

And, even if this link is not blocked, does having the lander through the ad-parking service potentially significantly decrease the likelihood of your domain sale offer being seen?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
The ad blocking issue aside, in A-B testing I have found for sale only landers to outperform ad/parking landers by a fairly good margin when it comes to inquiries and sales.

The ads can detract from the sales aspect of a lander.

In my view, unless you have a domain that makes significant revenue from parking you are better off with for sale only landers.

Also, if you have ad based landers you always have to worry about potential TM issues where that is not the case with for sale only landers.

Hi

i'd say, that the "If" in the premise
really isn't, so it's not futile.

all sales this year came from parked ppc pages and i haven't seen any significant decline in earnings.
ad blockers have been around for more than a decade and folks are still click click clicking on ads.

if or when it dries up, then i'll go to the next option.

imo...

Thanks for sharing your testing experience.

Did you ever test to see if AdBlocking does not only block the ads on the parking lander, but also the link to the sales?

Thanks to both of you for your perspective. My inclination is that if the adparking isn't generating revenue after a few months, probably it is time to switch to the straight sales landers.

Not really. It is kind of hard to test because there are tons of different setups with software, settings, and hardware.

If doesn't have to be all one or the other. If you have a domain that makes strong revenue parked, keep it parked. If your domain makes some small amount, I would consider using a for sale lander.

Hi

i agree

every domain is different, so it doesn't have to fit one or the other > until options become limited.

domains that earn revenue can help pay renewal or investment cost of other names.

i will say this:
majority of the domains i've sold this year didn't earn any significant ppc and if they did, might not have sold them or price would have been higher.

imo...

Thanks for the insight. For now, I did move quite a few domains back to straight sales landers with one of the marketplaces.

people who use ublock and visit a bodis or sedo page (at least the ones I tested) will get a blank white page, no ads and no for sale banner. Bodis confirmed this too. Given how popular ublock is, it certainly is costing sales to some.

Thanks. Does UBlock block any parked for-sale landers, including Dan, Afternic, or Sedo? That would be a real game-changer, if only one or two aftermarket places do not have the parked "for sale" landers routinely blocked by the major adblockers.

Thanks for the technical insights. Have you tested any of the other ad blockers as well?
It's good to know that, at least at this point, the Dan and Afternic pages still seem to be spared when UBlock is used.

Why do you think that Sedo and Bodis would be blocked, but not the far bigger players of Afternic, GoDaddy, and Dan?
After all, Sedo is an aftermarket place that has long-standing recognition, and their parking pages appear to resolve to secure sites.

Well, I use AdBlocker Ultimate and get a blank page for Bodis and Godaddy parking, for sale banners on Bodis parking pages are also blocked. It is possible that parking pages from other companies also show as blank pages, I don't always bother to investigate every blank page I reach when checking domain names.
For Sedo, only ads are blocked, if the domain has a BIN price, the link will still show normally.
There are still relatively few people using adblockers in my opinion, it shouldn't make much difference for domains earning money from thousands of visits every month. Maybe 5-10 years from now it'll be more of an issue but like the others have said, I wouldn't bother with parking if I'm only making a few cents a month, a clean for sale lander is much more focused and attractive to potential buyers.

Thank you for the thoughtful response. So GoDaddy Cash parking ad pages are blocked?
Yes, if you're making significant income from the parking services, the issue is probably irrelevant. But if for sale landers make more sense, it it nice to know which marketplace options are spared from all the adblockers.

What are the best parking services out there?

I like Bodis, it is the most versatile, not sure did not try other parking services, if add block is enabled after some seconds it redirects to Inquiry page or custom link to your own marketplace, this seem to work only when Tier2 ads are enabled.
I have asked them to improve the redirect to happen faster but no updates until today, the user may think that nothing is there if he stay for some seconds and leave as a result.

apparently there is side fix for this on bodis... use url option..not ext market... so I use dan just via url.
