CognitiveAutomation.com sold for $260,000. This name was hand registered in 2016!

"We first reported this sale by Joseph Ciprut was in progress under an installment plan two years ago. The deal originally called for a total of $300,000 in payments but Joseph received an offer from the buyer to close the deal early in return for reducing the price to $260,000 and he accepted. Joseph sent me the closing documentation right before NamesCon and I was happy to see him again at the show where he understandably had a big smile on his face!"

That is an amazing price to quality of domain ratio.

It's a good domain, but $260k good?

It just shows that domains are one of a kind assets that can be worth an extremely high amount to the right end user.

Since a while ago, thought I would point out I did an interview for the NamePros Blog with the seller, Joseph Ciprut, back in 2020 just after the sale.

https://www.namepros.com/blog/domainer-interview-joseph-ciprut-the-cognitive-master.1205622/

The sale was originally to be 3 instalments, 3x$100,000, but he agreed to a slightly lower price subsequently to close the deal early.

Agree it is a good price, demonstrating the worth of owning a category defining term in an emerging technology, even if the name itself is long.

Congrats to the seller.

I would not have got that price for this domain, because I never would have asked that price.

Pricing is an art. If your price expectations are this high for similar domains you have to turn down an awful lot of good to great offers to make that one amazing sale.

HealthInsurance sold for $8.13 million in 2019. It is technically two words as well, but expresses one idea. Because not as specialized, I think more domainers can see that as high-price name.

While not nearly as common an expression, I think in eyes of the buyer this was a unified expression, even though two words, that would give them a leg up on competition.

Agree with Brad that the vast majority of domainers would not even think of asking this sort of price. Without revealing too much, Joseph did discuss and seek opinions on the domain social sessions. That is where I first 'met' him.

As Brad says, pricing is an art. Joseph has turned down some strong offers on other names, I know. This big sale obviously placed him in a position that he does not need to be that flexible on future sales, unless he wants to.

I think one advantage he had is that his business plus psychology background, and expertise in the area, placed him in a good position to recognize the potential of the name at a deeper level.

Happy for his success.

How much worth of 2 word domains?
$0 to $10 million plus

Seriously that is the correct answer. The majority of domains, including two-word, listed for sale will never sell, and would not even if offered at low prices.

But a few will sell for a lot. The ones that will sell for a lot will have various characteristics but will in general be a unified concept, like HealthInsurance. They also will be an area with serious money in sector.

While name is main thing, the pricing and negotiation skill of the seller (or broker) can have a big impact.

Real Estate, Credit Cards, Car Insurance, etc.

Private Jet was cash + equity deal - not a pure domain sale and also there was funny business about it actually being sold

https://domainnamewire.com/2019/07/...t-com-off-of-all-of-those-domain-sales-lists/

Vacation Rentals was a website purchase - though the owner did say the main reason for the purchase was to keep the domain away from Expedia. Funny enough it now points to Vrbo.com - which is a Expedia company.....

British Today was sold for $400 million and points to a awful looking FB page with 1.7k likes and 39 followers? Ok then......something off with this - for that kind of money that smells fishy as hell
