Has anyone recently had someone try to sell one of your domains on Dan?" A domain that you own and didn't authorize?
I had just posted my new purchase on NamePros Reg of the Day. I was having difficulty uploading the domain to my Dan account for unclear reasons.
When I put the domain name in the url, I saw that someone else has listed this without my consent and clearly without owning it.
Has anyone else on the forum had this experience, especially after posting a domain name here?
Hopefully the message sent just now to Dan will help resolve this promptly.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
5 times in the past week i attempted to list meta domains on dan and got rejected, because they were already listed there. i thought they were still listed by a former owner but a check showed that i was the first to register them. i think they were listed as make offer and if they were approached they would try to purchase from the real owner for a lower price, if it worked it didn't, if it didn't it didn't. i did not report the regs here so i think they just trolled around. one thing dan can pick up from godaddy is verification.
They have verification on DAN two ways actually. DAN and Afternic need to do better about blocking accounts that pull this crap.

I also had a good amount of domains in others accounts at Afternic that I have had for years. I don’t consider me having to take millions of screenshots a good form of verification.

I forgot about this thread, it was nice to see you post again after so long.
Anyways still major drop listing going on at Dan.com
I deleted all except one domains on May * and decided to relist them last few days.
Not to my surprise, 4 had been listed by other people(accounts)
1 account added 2 of my names, 2 accounts added 1 each.
One account linked to their main listings page and they have 239175 results including one of mine
I have removed or enlarged bin's on 4 names other accounts listed my domains at Dan.
All i did was delete them from my Dan account and change nameservers.
They must be bulk uploading huge amounts.

I see they got Friendly?Faced.com and it shows up twice in Dan listings but HugeDomains grabbed that in February. Dishonesty sucks. Alcohol too, but best we can hope for is with Dan.com having new owners that they will be sure to verify all listings. They do it with afternic, or more people won't risk losing their afternic account. At dan its oh i made a mistake, tee hee hee hee
Now after moving all my dns to dan again, i have to move them outa there. Waste my time, this is the least i could do

239,174 i see one domain has been removed from their account

I see the same domains are listed twice somehow 2 different times in a short time.
No wonder dan.com has so many listings, that just lessens the chances of anyone finding your name there
My guess 1.5 million names at dan are unauthorized or duplicately listed

Wow, still going on! Good job doing the sleuthing.
I'm sure Dan and GoDaddy have a vested interest in correcting these issues. Both companies provide a service that is invaluable to honest folks trying to sell their domains. Perhaps these other domains are listed by accident by the individuals who don't actually own them. Nonetheless, the issue hopefully will be resolved quickly.

This are the news & advice from me

They are 3-4 maybe 5 persons who also have accounts here on Namperos
Get the source of domains from here

I notice 2 from China & one from India but via DAN not identify here on NP who they are

One of them from China notice i put on sale here FUK .US for xxx USD - he listed on DAN at minimum offer 30000$ 😉 .Why so high? Because word "fuk" meaning fortune in chinese & is a given name
Screenshot_20220722-121437.png

Maybe know or not but i listed FUK .US before but deleted at some point

They watch sections like "Your today domain registration" , "Your today snap..." , Marketplace section ...

They verify if are listed or not on DAN , if not they listed on his name pretend is/are the owner/s of domain/s , if you not care or notice & they get a legit offer , come to you & offer 5 , 10$..

My advice is to list all domains on DAN in case you show your names here on Namepros & probably they watch other forums

Cheers

Thanks for the keen insight. Prior to listing anything on Namepros, I guess it makes sense to make certain it is already listed on DAN.
Note that, since my original post, my sympathy has increased for those who accidentally didn't remove the domains which they have dropped or sold. It really does take vigilance, to eliminate any listings associated with it. If someone has a very large portfolio, I could imagine the task could be very daunting.
As for those who are posting the domains intentionally, without ever having had ownership, hopefully DAN would deal with those accounts swiftly and firmly. Perhaps, if such behavior had a risk of being permanently banned from DAN, the perpetrators wouldn't try it in the first place.

They watch everything. Have a domain on dynadot (namesilo, namecheap) marketplace which you did not intend to list on or sell via dan? They will add it to DAN. So, you'd better add it to Dan yourself, with a makeoffer @ cosmic min bid just to lock it.
Have a domain on dan or sedo but not on afternic? they will add it to Afternic.
Etc, etc ;-() All combinations...

Yes, just write to support and they remove old listing.

DAN support appears to be responding extremely quickly now to any incident relating to others trying to sell someone else's domain. This happened again this week, and it appears that within a matters of hours, the pepetrator was stopped. Our NamePro DAN support expert, Lazlo Schenk even kindly placed the domain in my account after the other listing was removed!

Thanks for progress! The customer service here really seems to have ramped up its efforts effectively.

No, definitely the person posting this was not the previous owner. I have had the domain for quite a while, had it listed on DAN, but had delisted it due to the expiration date coming in October.
I changed my mind, and decided to relist it with DAN, but found that someone else had already put it up in the intermin. This was clued in by my resubmit not going through. That's when I found the listing in someone else's account. The domain had not been sold, transferred, or expired and was still in my Registrar account in good order.
What amazes me is that this individual did this, probably within days of my delisting it.
Is it possible that some unscrupulous folks are monitoring DAN listings for removals, and trying to relist them as their own to do a presale? Curious.

When I deleted from DAN one my domain, after this domain was priced under various price that I had. Something strange.

Thanks for letting me know!

I'm not sure I understand your comment here. Could you clarify?

In my case, I own a domain that I listed for "make and offer." I had temporarily removed it from my DAN portfolio. Within days, by someone else listed it for a "make offer" sale on DAN.
If they wanted the domain that badly, why not just buy the domain from me. THEN put it up for sale! :) The offer was for $99, the minimum allowed by DAN--a fair price, IMHO, for the name.
Again, though, the GREAT news is that DAN's support team appears to have zero tolerance for these shenanigans.

I had one word .CC but decided to sell on Dynadot with Dynadot landing page and deleted domain from DAN.

But later viewing DAN marketplace and checked my domain. And it was listed by price higher that I had when listed domain on DAN.

So common. So familiar. All marketplaces are affected. Selling a domain somewhere but not on DAN? It will appear on DAN, earlier or later. Never-ending saga. And, this will continue until such a time DAN finally adds DNS ownership verification for _all_ added domains.

Maybe DAN needs to make a new rule. For the perps that do this, require that they buy the domain from you or otherwise be permanently banned from DAN!

Seems like this may be necessary. Is it likely that there are bots that routinely scan DAN for the drops, and then do the listing automatically under spurious accounts?
What was interesting in this case, compared to before, was the fact that the domain seller had a very small portfolio of domains listed. Before, the dubious account in question had over 450,000 domains. This one, I believe, had less then 10. Unfortunately, this could mean a change in strategy, though, where perhaps small accounts are now being set up to do the "dirty work?"
The unfortunate part of this is that DAN is so convenient and efficient for listing domains. It's sad that some folks try to take advantage of this.

If you have a portfolio and had been on Dan previously, it may be worth rechecking to see if these sellers are also trying to sell your names. What appears bolder now is that there are a diversity of seller listings involved. Before, most of the fraudulent listings were under one large account that had over 400K domains. Also, now BIN is being used. Before, it seemed that primarily only "Make offer" was the tactic.

When I left Dan, and thought all was clear. Unfortunately, I found out yesterday that about 10% of my portfolio is being sold on Dan by fraudulent sellers. Thanks to a recent post on the Dan Thread section, I decided to recheck for any of my domains on Dan (where I no longer have listings, or so I thought). And, as stated before, most of the domains involved have been owned for many years. They are not drops or expiring registrations.

Virtually all of the domains affected in my portfolio are current listings under Afternic Fast Transfer. Could a fraudulent seller could make a sale on Dan, and pending processing, and immediately buy the domain on Afternic FT to claim immediate ownership in order to complete the sale? These fraudulent sellers appear to target domains with lower prices on Afternic, asking on Dan for a price sometimes 10X or more. So, there is potential for that type of scheme to work.

Some would say, well, what is the harm?
1) It undermines trust in a marketplace. So the marketplace can lose customers who are worried about which sellers are legit.
2) They are charging much, much higher prices in some instances. If someone was actually interested in buying your domain at a lower price, their BIN could dissuade them from further consideration of your domain name.
3) They are doing this using using GoDaddy's Dan platform, while the names are listed on GoDaddy's Afternic Fast Transfer. Does that look good for their GD brand?
4) By having this scheme, rather than simply requiring them to buy the domain to sell it, it clearly does not help the actual seller.

So, folks, you may want to check your portfolios to see if there are domains you thought you didn't have listed at DAN---especially if you are using Afternic Fast Transfer.

As an update, I left Dan, and thought all was clear. Unfortunately, I found out yesterday that about 10% of my portfolio is being sold on Dan by fraudulent sellers. Thanks to a recent post by a user on the Dan Official Thread section, it alerted me to recheck my domains. And, as stated previously, most of the domains involved have been owned for many years, and not recent expirations or sales.

Finally, what really is disturbing here is that virtually all of the domains affected in my portfolio are also currently listed under Afternic Fast Transfer. So, is there a possibility here that the fraudulent seller could make a sale on Dan, and pending processing, and immediately buy the domain on Afternic FT to claim ownership in order to complete the sale? The exact same thing happens all the time at Afternic. I have had to contact them numerous times for fraudulent listings of my names many owned for years. The only way to stop it until GD decides to actually punish offenders with permanent bans or an equally severe response is to have names on both sites with bin on one.

One cannot remove the scum of the world alone. Nor if some of us do. These will continue to exist. I'm not sure why everyone here is so pissed about it.

I have a VERY different take on this.

First off, when you have a solid investment in domains you have no time to spend on such things. Or, the time can be used for other things such as building another venture OR finding great domains etc.

The value is in the domains. If there's value in, that's all you need.

Now.

I always price my domains high. Correctly, I'd say. I'm not going overboard but I am confident, based on my knowledge, that it would be the actual top retail price. This leaves VERY little room for these guys.

Now if I price a domain say $5K and the guy manages to sell it for $10K, what is the wrong thing in that?

They correctly saw a higher end price for it and I didn't. Good - they can have some money. Or they pitched to a buyer directly, one that I'd never find cause It's not me who did that. Again good for them.

You also get paid as well. At your retail price. I'm always happy about that, and to buy better names.

I believe all of this is senseless FOMO. Sorry for being frank.

Someone else making some money based off you? Who cares. I care about what I make. And getting rid of those guys in places where I DO NOT LIST might actually rid me of some very needed income.

On the other hand, say I drop price on a domain and sell it at clearance. I sell it for $100 and they manage to make 2K from it. Again, what is wrong in that?

Nothing.

Is it unethical? Yes, or at least incorrect. Does it hurt you? If you respect my 2 conditions below I dare to say that not at all, but the contrary. I can't list everywhere out there nor can I have a BIN everywhere out there. It's gonna turn into a mayhem.

Price correctly, price high retail. Worst case scenario, you will get paid.

Use a sane min offer. Not smaller than 50% of the domain price. 60....70% is ideal by me. (Note, too many domainers around here use a $20 min offer which not only doesn't make sense - at all - but also gets them vulnerable to lowballers and frontrunners).

Also, worry not. You have better things to do rather than checking thousands of domains if they are listed anywhere. And on a more or less continuous basis as they will always pop up again later.

Mindset helps a lot in this venture. FOMO doesn't.

In some scenarios, nobody will make any $$$ because of fraudulent listings. For example:

1. You listed the domain on SedoMLS for $5K, but not on Afternic.

2. Fraudster listed your domain for $10K on Afternic (directly or via DAN).

3. Network Solutions, being a partner of both networks, elected to show more expensive listing (10K), as they received the same domain from both networks but with different prices.

4. Potential buyer performed an exact domain search on Netsol, received $10K BIN and decided that it is too expensive. He was willing to pay $5K maximum. So he purchased alternative domain.

5. You lost a sale.

Yeah, possibly. Although I believe that if you list on Afternic and Sedo that's what you need to do as these will be syndicated everywhere.

Forgot to mention I always list both on Sedo and Afternic.

Other thing is, you can't control everything.

You might have lost a sale; but in the time wasted to hunt for this you can make money finding other better names. Or managing your portfolio with the result of even more sales.

Were talking about dan not afternic.
They have been aware of this since my first ticket 17 months ago.
Someone is taking advantage of them, their so nice. Oh, previous lister forgot to remove. Let us rectify that one moment please. And no disclaimer confirming you own the name or have authority to sell it when listing.
TheBlueVirus.com has been added twice by same group i got spanked for these type links before
https://dan.com/ buy-domain/thebluevirus.com
Link broken there try and use link feauture here on mobile to break it but doesnt work.
This name has not recently been renewed, as stated in other thread, go see gwhois.org to confirm.
This is an elaborate scam going on at dan. Maybe afternic, sedo and elsewhere but dan is only in control dan.com listings.
When TheBlueVirus.com expired, i removed it, as we should. Why did they not list it at afternic/sedo? They know better.
OP i suggest listing your names there make offer as others do for protection against this happening
