What is the one domain trend over the years that you most regretted buying into?

I'll start - early on in my investing I saw someone, somewhere (Twitter?) saying that they'd sold a .fr domain, and they said they were making a fortune selling country specific domains only. Being new, I just bought up a slew of .fr domains - that was years ago, long story short that went nowhere, and I quickly let go of that.

Learning lessons are the best. :xf.rolleyes:

btw - if you are new to domaining, some country based tlds sell very well. Not that one.

Purchasing various .me domains that seemed appealing. It's nice to have purchases that, if not developed, have potential resale value. Overall, .me domains appear to have lost their appeal, especially compared to other extensions such as .com .

That's a shame, I like .me but yes they don't sell quickly that's for sure 😂😩.

What are your top 5 .me domains? Just so I can get an idea of the kinds of names you had that wouldn't sell.

random 4l coms

Buying names that appeal to restaurants. Of all domain buyers, they must the cheapest people around. Glad they have food inspectors or these people are the group most likely to serve you stale food that will kill you.

Thanks for asking.

I recently dropped Defending.me, guarding.me, and startsaving.me, which never sold even at very low prices. Wiring.me didn't sell, but that one still to me was worth renewing.
Starloving.me and StopAnnoying.me were purchases on GoDaddy's .me sale. My interest, in terms of sale or developing, is more in the .com versions purchased at the same time.

Thanks for sharing. I'm a fan of .me names I have to admit, but they don't sell well as mentioned. I have clever, cheeky, runner amongst others.

I have to agree it's a been a rocky road. I've had a few sales of low-mid £xxx for some .UK names I've picked up though.

It also gave me a chance to write a program to dropcatch .UK names too which was worth it too.

The .co.uk/.UK split was an awful idea though. Just money grabbing and so bad for the space.

As for .me domains I don't regret buying them, I'm in for a long hold on them cause I like 'em

Not being rude, but do you mean your choices of .uk and .co.uk have been a disaster?

Oh! I regret registering LIBRA based domains, due to Facebook's launching of Libra cryptocurrency. None were sold. I let them expire.

My biggest regret regging registy premium domains that cost $$ 200-800 renewal. Thought I could easily sell them. Though, I sold one of them via outbound.

I own some nice .co.uk/.uk but sales volume and amounts compared to .com or .xyz is very low.

The 20 sales above are for the whole namespace which is twice the size of .com or .xyz as they have 2 extensions.

The majority of domains go unsold for £50 and it is not a very liquid market.

Interested to know what UK and .xyz names you've sold and rough ranges if you care to oblige. No worries if not

NFT. Including SH - approved.

Still having many, about to expire soon. Haven't sold a single one for whatever reason.

Edit: Sold several metaverse domains, some even weaker overall. So metaverse did pay off well. But the even shorter .com NFT's? Nay.

DomainLore is mainly a reseller marketplace.......Check most (not all) of the sales listed and they don't have end user sites

Also when you copy and paste from Namebio, the prices change - Example - role.co.uk sold for $1,560 and is listed by the new owner for £3,250 on Dan ......

The co.uk market is a tough nut - one guy on here owns thousands of them, really nice portfolio......A big mistake when I was starting out was buying a load of co.uk domains thinking they where good - they weren't.

Ironically , Nfts.com sold for 15m
