Now I understand how Abdul Basit might receive so many inquiries on domains in a month. We just got told by Godaddy about over 2700 inquiries on our domains during the last couple of months. We hadn’t been told before because none of the contacts turned into qualifying-offer negotiations, or weren’t near our min. offers.

It seems obvious that prospective buyers go to the most widely-known domain place, Godaddy. They don’t know how to contact owners, otherwise, I guess — or else prefer to stay anonymous. Nearly all our domains are listed with public contact details on Whois, but these people didn’t use it.

If you have a decent size portfolio listed on Afternic (or simply some good domains there), make sure you’re checking in with Godaddy to see about inquiries activity. You may want to follow up.

If you have domains at Afternic, you can ask Godaddy if they’ve received inquiries on your domains that maybe were too low, or the person did not make a cash offer. It may be possible to re-engage with those people, if you are open to lowering your price enough.

I had actually started to wonder about that myself over the past couple of months. @AbdulBasit.com is an inspiration to the community, but I wondered if most of the sales he generates were from the landing pages Afternic provides, from the Afternic cart itself, or straight from GoDaddy. I know my portfolio isn't as good as his, but I just wondered if I was leaving inquiries, and in turn, potential sales I may have missed out since I started this venture.

It's said that having BINs set up is the best way to go, but I am also aware that I'd accept lower prices to keep cash flow going and if it brings me a nice ROI instead of waiting for that perfect buyer. So, I started the process of converting all of the listings from BIN to MAO(make an offer) listings while bringing the BINs that are less than $5k to Sedo since they pay out faster anyways if a BIN is hit from my experiences. I'll give it about a week before taking the BIN off since the brokers could at least work up to the floor price while I wait for someone else to want to know the price. Plus, it's great data in knowing that you have interest in your names in case you're unsure if you want to keep it or not.

So far, I've seen a bit of an uptick in inquiries from the price requests I'll get. Also had my first ever 5-figure month in July since making the switch. I'm going to keep experimenting with my current setup, but I'd say so far he's right in Afternic bringing in the most money. Not a bad idea to check in to see if there are any inquiries that you may not know about with them though.

I strongly suggest using BINs because I've used make offers for a lot of years and it was a disaster compared to the BINs I've started using for the last 3 years or so...

My BIN pricing starts from $1,988 and goes into 7 figures. I can tell you that I've been using the same BIN and Floor for all the domains. If a domain is having $50,000 BIN so the floor is the same. The minimum offer varies depending on the BIN price. However, the broker and/or account rep may contact you in case the buyer has presented a lower offer than your set Floor price. So don't hesitate to set the BIN and Floor price the same.

I've tried several companies/landers over the years and Afternic has been giving the best results for more than two years now.

Since I've started using AN landers, at least 50% of the sales have come through GD search and the remaining via AN lander and partner registrars.

Thank you!

Nice info to know! I appreciate you for commenting.

My main reason for setting it to MAO is as long as I'm hitting around 100x my original purchase price while adding in an extra 20-50% to cover commissions, taxes, renewals, etc., I want cash flow coming in to put into better names so I can build a solid portfolio such as yours. Plus, I'm a bit of a data freak, so I want to see data that comes from my own landers and from domain name searches. Not too experienced in setting my own BINs, but they come from a manual algo anyways.

Ask GoDaddy? Who do I ask there exactly? What data can they give? Just number of inquiries? If we had this data in afternic we could lower a price etc. I am sure many of you sold names using Dan by going back to people that made offers that were low.

That's alright. As far as this model is working for you, it's good. I just wanted to share my experience and what worked better for me and for other as well.

Also since you're using Make Offer, I suggest to keep a reasonable Minimum Offer for every domain in order to avoid lowballers.

Good luck!

I contacted AN as you said but they told me if there is any inquiries will be the one to contact you. Should I ask Godaddy too ?

Thanks,

Most likely that'll come in the form of price requests when they contact you.

Try reaching out to [email protected] as the way to reach out to them about offers. Going off of memory since I'm packing at the moment, but that should be the correct address.
