Help me choose a name for my upcoming platform

Before you vote for a name, please read:

I'm building a new website for multiple purposes. It will showcase my names and also provide discount / EOL domainer sales among other things. So it will be a domain platform on one hand.

It will also feature a lot of domaining articles. Also I will open to the world some of the tools I have currently have as private, offered via membership. So there will be a lot of things in.

My problem is that whichever name I pick doesn't seem a perfect fit. It fits one part of the thing, but not the other. The domain sales part would fit a name like Brandeia (as most of my names are now brandables), but on the other hand it might be confusing if you don't see "domain" contained in the name? Just wondering. Short is good, but descriptive is also good, so... I made this poll.

On the other hand I don't want to split this into countless websites as no way I will be able to manage all those.

This being said, got a shortlist below, what would you choose? Also please comment if needed / better suggestions. Thanks!

Note: One always needs an exterior pair of eyes as it's harder to see correctly from within

If it's for the general public it's better if it has the word domain in it. If you want something with brand in it you could always get a name like BrandyDomains.com that's available or something else

That's true, and I knew it beforehand, yet you know - want more eyes to look at this.

I personally like DnFlux as well but would the general public recognize what DN stands for ? Probably not. Therefore I guess that one will be anything but memorable for them.

I disagree brand shouldn’t be used with domains. It is after all their purpose- creating a brand. In fact domains is my least favorite word.

Since your product in part targets other domainers I like DN, Dot, Brand Name then Domain as first words in that order.

I am not thrilled with any of the above. Just a matter of taste in names.

Not too much of a fan of using dot as the last keyword (since you get dot dot when pronounced) but slickdot has a nice ring to it. It's the only memorable one from the list.

I agree. Side note Dot at the end it's not a perfect option but it's still a valid one.

The truth is, most great domains containing "domain" are taken and best ones have prices not worth it. I'd rather pick one of these and use those money to buy more names today.

Edit: Each option has pros and cons and I don't think any can be "perfect".

For example LoopDomains is a great inbetween (meets all criteria, works for a portfolio site but also for tools) but it's long-ish. The core of the problem lies in the multiple sides of the website.

I don't think any of these names is 'catchy' enough. Maybe you should look in the aftermarket or ask guys here to suggest names they own.
If you are serious about this venture, invest in a good name.

TBH I'm not particularly thrilled by any as well but I look it from a practical angle and not looking for perfection. If it works, so be it. Just looking for the best available option right now and the above is kind of the list. Have other names as well but that would be like going down the rabbit hole.

You can always rebrand later - and chances are at some point I might move portions of the site onto a new domain, have done this in the past for valid reasons.

That's why I have added the Other option.

If someone can suggest another name from the aftermarket etc, please do.

But again - I'm looking not for the best option but rather for something that works and is memorable. If it's too pricey, I'd rather spend that now on some more names. My businesses have been suffering lately so it's a time to save money as possible.

I knew about that from the beginning.... was one of the options considered down the line.

Got it now.... for some reason it seems I should have it, although I'm probably not going to use it, or at least not for this. Maybe for a blog separated from the main site down the line, I don't know yet.

I think it sounds really good and it is memorable. After all you already established this brand here on namepros

That's true, but it won't be to anyone else in the world.

Also the platform might take a life of its own down the line... not good to have them connected like that in such case.

( I know a thing or two about brands, personal brands, corporate brands and such choices )

TBH down the line I passed on so many names out there including a couple that were perfect. But now the prices make it not worth it for me.

I'd appreciate getting more votes for names in the list at this stage.

That is why I chose a brand like DataCube as it sounds tech related but can be used for many different things.

Really any good (2) word .COM can make a solid brand. It doesn't have to have the domain terms in it.

A lot of the ones on the list are acceptable, just none I really like that much.

The one I would definitely avoid is "SlickDot". It does sound good at first glance, but "Slick dot dot com" is a radio test nightmare. IMO.

Yes, you're definitely right. But how about a one word com? Such as Shopify (or similar). I'd like that path more.

Yeah, that works as well.

My main point is really you don't need "domain", "name", "dn", etc. in your domain.
It kind of limits the potential use IMO.

I just like more open brands personally.

I agree with Brad. If you want something for the public you have to choose a name without domain in it. Good luck finding the one
FYI : There is already a brand name called Algonames.

If it's a domain name marketplace, then the best one would be a domain which includes the word "brand" in it. Because really what these businesses are looking for is to build a brand. That's why they need a great domain for their brand. They are not looking for just a domain name. They would like to build a real brand on that domain name.


However you mentioned that you also want to write domaining articles and you want to offer tools for domainers.

I think you can still include either the word "domain" or "brand" in your domain for this project. Domainers know what "domain" means for sure. And the businesses who are looking for brandable domain names know what "domain" means, too.

But if you include the word "brand" in your domain, then you could also write about branding and marketing in general. You can still offer domaining articles and tools on a domain which includes the word "brand", I think it's not confusing, since domaining is part of branding.

That said, I have domains for sale which contain the word "brand" or "domain" (two-word premium .com domains), which could be a great fit for your project. But I don't want to spam you, so if you are interested, send me a PM, I think these are really great names.

Meanwhile I've decided to not use any of the names in the list, have other ideas. Indeed none is perfect for that. (my conclusion after reading all comments and weighting things a bit)

It's interesting to see though how votes came out. Winner so far is still SlickDot, which I added as I think it's a good brandable. But will not be using it for this particular project.

Anyway, when site is ready I'll post about it as there might be goodies in it. Thanks again!

Not that I disagree with anything, but interestingly two of the top domain industry companies chose not the best possible patterns for naming: DynaDot and NameCheap.

One is DynaDot Dot Com and the other one puts adjective after the noun.

Some, based on this kind of examples, assume branding doesn't matter. I'd say bad branding can be overcome by good product and management, but it is still a bad decision to turn a possible permanent catalyst for your business into a permanent hurdle to overcome.
