Random DM abuse from various uneducated NP users

I'm so tired of all this.

Apart from people trying to sell you random stuff, which is too common to even mention. There's a lot going on each day and a neverending stream of surprises (here's just a fresh batch):

- People straight asking for money. "I need 600$, please give me" = wow, they even have a fixed tariff? I explain I don't do that (for solid reasons), and then inevitably sob stories come, usually either the poor student or the little sister that needs help. Nope, sorry.

- Newbies sending you their hundreds of crap regs to appraise. Appraise the list? Are you serious? Not only there's nothing to appraise usually, what am I, your bulk appraisal bot? Are you even aware of the level of work needed behind correctly appraising a single domain and the tens of factors you need to take into account? Yeah, I thought so.

Not to mention, there's not even a "Thank you" in most cases. Just "tell me which is good" or "Tell me how much these are worth". End.

- People asking to use your years-work of private tools you have built, entirely for free.

How about using your own head and money, and building your own. Spend the years and $$$$ to get there. No, instead they'd rather insist. It'd be a little easier that way.

- People asking "How do you filter on ExpiredDomains so you got that domain xxxx.com that sold for xxxx".

I politely reply, please ask the question publicly as I only do public advice, no advice via DM. I get too much of that from a lot of random newbie users, sorry but no more. Plus, good thing - other domainers here will reply as well; some will be far better at that than me.

But now all of the sudden, he's angry. Because he doesn't want generic advice. He wants to know how I set the filters so he can get to the same names. Quick, dirty and easy.

The next and final step is, now all of the sudden I'm having "A friendly public face and a very different face in private". Then, usually, insults if I don't block them first.

Newsflash for you:

There's a ton of info on NP about domain names, do your own homework.

Also I'm not stupid. Ever thought of that? I got where I am because I am not stupid.

Domaining is the easiest field to copycat if you have the exact same knowledge. I won't give you the straight ways to be right next to me, and breathe in the back of my neck. I will give you a ton of great ways and tips to ease your work, so you can forge your own path. Not ways to get my own plate off the table.

Plus, I share most if not all of my sales - what best info to get other than that? Without shared sales from all of us, you'd be a blind domainer.

Do your own homework, guys. At least that.

Also, what I do here on NP, I do because I believe in sharing. Not because I am paid or whatever. I spend a ton of hours writing comprehensive posts and answering.

I don't need your recognition, I don't need anything from you. The only thing that is rewarding for me is helping others. But not when people abuse that thing that comes from heart. In fact today I'm thinking, yet again, to completely stop posting on NP due to all this random DM abuse I am so tired of.

I am also not your own free assistance minion. Ever considered that? Oh, but you're entitled to, for some reason, yeah.

And when you're getting a "NO", that means NO. Nothing more. There's not a YES behind that if you insist. Or if you become angry and call me various names or place various insult labels.

Everyone has a limit and you just stepped beyond that limit with dirty boots.

Sorry for the rant, I needed to get this off my chest. Once again.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Sometimes a little rant makes you feel better. I mostly get appraisal requests / what do you think of my domain. In fairness, I probably bring that on myself, considering I'm a bit of an appraisal rat, sharing my view on just about anything in the day. I don't really care...if people want my 2 cents worth of opinion, don't mind sharing it. Asking for money and the "please sir help me" is definitely ban worthy. IMO

You're seen as helpful due to making those appraisals. It's similar to me, except I get deeper abuse. Appraisal lists are no longer the worst I get.

The drawback is, you might no longer want to have a public presence at all. I'll be considering this once again today, unfortunately.

Thanks for replying, it does help.

Yeah, I respect that. The abuse is unacceptable. I haven't really been abused much (thankfully), I tend to try and be fair with people in the forum so there's some mutual respect with just about everyone, I hope, if they end up DMing me or something. Behind the scenes, always going to be someone (even many people) that want to be negative, beg, not like your opinion, not be fond of your character, think you should be acting a certain way, name calling, whining...whatever. Tend to call some of these people "internet warriors"...tough talking behind a screen, but in person they're different. As long as you know you're being nice, informative, respectful to people in the forum...you know you've done your bit. In summary: You can't please everyone

Some of the more vested members (Including myself) tend to frequent the less publicized and non-search-engine-indexed sections (e.g. insiders lounge, professional appraisals, Pro group, etc.) more, to help cut back on the mass influx of messages that can sometimes distract from higher priority tasks, goals, and focuses.

So, your thought process is on point, if less exposure is what you're after. The drawback is that you get less eyeballs on your contributions. The upside, is the eyeballs you do get are more vested into the industry.

That's just my opinion anyways.

Thanks for this.

Well, I guess I might have contributed enough. Probably the time to cut down on this.

Added note: There's also the option of converting each DM request for assistance into a cold lead to filter and convert into small revenue streams.

I mean, they reached out to you!

On the flip side. You should definitely report any messages that violate the rules so a Moderator can remind them of the rules they agreed to when they signed up and get more involved if they fail to comply.

Again, just my opinion.

My only squabble are people sending nothing you request in a thread.
I think for blatant spam... where a user clearly goes against a request thread to sell unrelated names.
There should be a 3 strike rule or something to make the request section more serious.

Outside of requests, i don't mind dm's... i simply ignore if it's spam or help if i can..

Asking for money is def overboard.. scamish or harassment. If it's a legit emergency, it would be better to make a thread and let people be the judges and decide to help freely i they feel it's real.

This is why I stopped posting WTB threads.

It doesn't matter how specific you are -

"I am only looking for LLL.com"

You will get flooded with messages like - "I have buyhorses.xyz for $15,000. Are you interested?"

I laughed hard at this making people around me wondering if I'm okay.
