I usually look at what is most convenient to me for search volumes, so if im in expired domains, ill look there, if I have checked the price in estibot, ill use that and for long lists, ill use searchvolume.io

Expired domains says its google ad planner
Estibot says its google search volume
Search volume io says its the google keyword planner

So, everything uses googles stats, therefore they should be all the same...

I never use google keywordplanner because I tried emancipating myself from google and thought that I had closed down all my accounts and the other methods dont need a log in so are much quicker. I used Google KWP yesterday and was shocked that the search volumes were so different. Ive made purchasing decisions on those stats from expired domains, estibot and search volume io, so am super annoyed and upset. Here's an example with one domain:

Runners runs .com

Expireddomains = 165.0 K (with a CPC of $80)
estibot = 26 (exact match) with a CPC of 10c
searchvolume. io/ =40
Google ad words planner = 100-1k (no CPC data available)

How can the difference be so crazy between expired domains and estibot and why do neither of those fall in the range given by google?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Have you figured out that they are the same kind of search result or not? Google Search Result has many terms :

- Exact Mach Search. Exanple for domain Diamond.com, Exact Mach is Type in only "Diamond" in search engine
- Broad Search It means all the search with "Diamond" in type in, like "fancy diamond", " black diamonds for sale", "diamond Credit Card", " How to tell iff a diamond is real diamond", "Diamond Restaurants in New York", etc.

I often see domainers offer their domains, saying got thousands view per month on Google, but they use Broad Search as a data. The real Exact Match Search in Google is very small.

Exact Match Search and Broad Search Data actually are important for someone making a website, to determine what keywords they need to highlight in the website, and the url. For Example, diamond is a very good keyword, but it is almost impossible to get a rank in that keyword. So we usually search long tail keywords those have good search result too.

When google algorithm was very simple, I used to market a Hotel where I worked with 3 .xyz domains, and Godaddy Website. They got about 3000 view a month, making occupancy 125% a month. Domain is important in website SEO, because keywords in url are important for search engine.

Good point.

Ive just realised that searchvolume io is not global!!, I think that although estibot says its exact match, maybe its not global (and just doesnt disclose that)

Google keyword planner - I put the phrase in "" and it is still the same, so presume thats exact match

Even if I just put the word runners into google planner it is still nowhere near the expired domains estimate

Broad search means if it is 2 words, they match all the search with the 2 keywords in it. For examples, "Fancy Diamond" Search are Matched with all search with fancy and diamond in it.

That"s why Broad Search are very large.

And yes, even Exact Match must be stated, in US, in Europe, in Asia, or Global.

So using the term Google Search is something must be clear about what the Search Term is used.

For explanation about Broad Match, you can see in this article :

https://www.wordstream.com/broad-match#:~:text=What Is Broad Match?,somewhat related to your keyword.

I know what broad search and exact match terms are. That is not what I needed explaining and not my question.

I think I have figured my answer though....

Expireddomains .net doesnt say if that is what it is using for its estimate eg is it using broad search or exact match - My guess is broad match hence the crazy estimate

Estibot says its exact phrase match, but doesnt say if it is global or specific to somewhere, and im guessing its specific to a country of their choice, which is why it is tiny and different to all the others

search volume io is only for specific countries (which I didnt notice the dropdown box) and it doesnt say if it is broad or exact. I tried using different boolean operators and it didnt seem to have much effect on the search terms.

Don't forget that Exact Search Volume of 2 words is always not more than 1 word. Fancy Diamond at exact match has to type in as "Fancy Diamond". Not a sum of search result of Fancy + diamond. Exact Match Search for Runners Runs must be type in as "Runners Runs". That's why it might be small even in Exact Search Global.

I just said I understand how it works and did not need an explanation in the first place!!

I did a masters in information management. 1 whole unit was using search and boolean queries

I just want to say that Estibot is right. Runners Runs only got 26 search per month global. No value at all as keywords domain.

Runners runs is another way of saying runners diarrhea

My question was regarding why there was a difference between the different tools and I have now answered that.

Besides your findings, don't also forget the time period the data was measured. The various tools don't always show data from the same time period.

However,
if your measurement is for your own use only (eg. you won't use that data to sell a domain), imo, it doesn't really matter what you see between each tool; what you should be interested in is the trend of the data in the same tool over time.

I understand your need to know exactly what you are looking at but this is a very weird aspect in this industry, in that, lots of things you see are not very clear and you will get different answers for the same thing by the so-called 'experts' (numerical data included).

That is the reason why I ended up looking at the difference over time rather than trying to interpret *in detail* the data each tool is throwing at me.

I based my buying decisions on the figures, hence why im a bit annoyed that I thought the expired domains ones were global exact search (my mistake, but there really are bugger all instructions on that site). I detest google adwords planner, but will have to use it in the future so that i can be sure of what I am looking at.

I based my buying decisions on the figures,
Hi

the figures are not accurate, so that's reason for failure.

also, common sense should play biggest role in choosing a domain.
it's applications, past usage, potential usage, common usage of the terms, etc.

it makes no sense for that domain to have $80 cpc

imo...

I didnt just buy on search volume, I, of course, took other factors into the decision.
But how can I make a good decision, if I dont use accurate tools!!

Hi

you can't make decisions, based on tools alone.
and if you're using the same tools as everyone else, then what?

only the brain will give unique information.
but it has to contain some experience to derive at the right conclusions.

imo....

This is because your comparing non "standardized metrics"

inorder to know what you are looking for -> you need to know what those places are doing -> what are the microservices using when the calculations are being made... are they old data... are they parent category data...

you say cpc..... whos paying this cpc? the chief of the internet fund? The only data that you would want to listen to is googles... Google doesnt need to sell false promises.... to generate profit theyre that strong... They know theyres alot more about CPC then just what your domain name is... -> they know it's actual real time auctions for your ad space... -> and it's all based on your ctr -> if you bought the best domain ever with the highest cpc ever recorded on planet earth...

the only person thats gonna tell you what your next cpc rate is worth... is the person buying the ad spots... If your just buying circuitcity.com when they went out of business and pointing the nameservers to parking crew... your going to notice your actual cpc goes from prob 25 down to nothing... because your domain is going to just turn into junk because it's not actual people advertising but instead a black hole to send your traffic..

anyhow -> the key points ... cpc and stuff like that are not things that should be KEY factors unless you actually plan on advertising or selling adspace in that keyword... and your trying to chose which one might make more at the end of the day for the thing you were already doing...

but you should not attach value to a domain for cpc... im sure theres a large number of people that do. but i think it's useless as -> Your not generating the need to buy a domain name... your simply there when someone wants to buy a domain name...

So it's like a car color... black red white... it doesnt change the engine ... (imo) becasue if i sell usedBallBearings ... then im not going to shut down my business just because the cost for banner ad click throughs are low...

I realise now that expired domains is not accurate and that I need to double check it all on google add planner. It was just an easy way to start filtering the millions of domains in expired domains.

In this instance I was looking at cpc as I have just started parking domains for the first time, but it’s not usually a measure I consider.

Hello, im not trying to be mean its just kind of how i talk when im writing these types of posts. it's just kind of how my thoughts flow out.

but yea the expired domains guy is prob on this forum... if not you can always email him... I know he checks his email as I have passed in suggestions that he has added to the site before (the little hide domain button (:sneaky:))

anyhow if you ask him how it's calculated i would bet that he told you the exact formula -> or what api he uses for it...

the thing about his site -> is it's not like the owner is putting that data in himself... it's just a bunch of functions that process the daily list of domains that comes out... and he packages it up into a nice easy to use interface.

So im sure he doesnt use his own formula ... but he would probably help you dial into that info a little more then me
