Hello everyone,

It's very unfortunate to happen with anyone and yesterday it happened to me. The user @TjKiller using [email protected] as PayPal email ID scammed me of $1,000. I'll share the details below:

Attached are the screenshots of all the messages and payment snapshots exchanged between myself, the seller and the moderator(s) @Alfa Mod Team @Echo Mod Team of NamePros. But I'll try to keep it short and simple to understand what exactly has happened so far. Also attached are snapshots of the dispute opened with PayPal and the messages exchanged there as well.

So how it all started was that this guy named Tiago Silva @TjKiller ([email protected]) out of nowhere asked for a loan of €1,000 through a private message. I told him that it would be good if we may have some domain deal which will help him. He sent a few domains which I didn't like except the one IGAM.com for which he asked €2,000. I offered him $1,000 to which he finally agreed. Usually I inform the sellers that I'll be paying via PayPal and expect them to transfer the domain first. Since I agreed to pay via PayPal but he told me to transfer the money first. I was all the time hesitant to transfer money at first because of the abusive language used by him every now and then. I asked the moderator if I shouldn't proceed further but I was made aware that I'll be getting some warning or negative feedback/points from NamePros moderators which I never wanted to risk having. I even asked to use an escrow service which he categorically denied. I know there were several signs of potential fraud to happen but just because I didn't want to risk my reputation, I went ahead and made the payment via PayPal.

I provided my GoDaddy account details and he denied transferring the domain saying there is some error coming. I told him to try again and/or call GoDaddy support to help you in transferring the domain. Instead of that, he said that I've refunded the money back. As of writing this message, it's going to be 12 hours since I'm waiting for the domain or money to be received.

He attached the snapshot showing money refunded which I now believe is fake because I paid via my PayPal balance and the refund back to PayPal balance usually takes place in minutes at maximum per my experience.

In the entire communication I've shared (unedited except account details, PayPal transaction ID, etc.), one can notice how abusive, disgraceful and racist language is used against me.

Some of the excerpts from his messages:

"You are worst than a woman"

"But dealing with Abdul is unbearable
He accuses me of not respecting the agreement when he is the one who does not respect it"

"And he's suspicious like everything, what a despicable human being"

"If you want to screw me, it's up to you and your conscience"

"You are already making me sick
Behave like a man"

"My name is clean, the dung that is accusing me me should be ashamed"

"I send you the money *Please paypal review this* You Abdul, are a mean and disgusting hunan being"

"How can you say I didn't send your money? You scumbag, piece of shit"

"You have my domain and my money Congratz for you I hope you sleep well at night"

"I will find you. Even if I have to chase you to India. And then, I will rip your head off."

"Just to leave a note: *Pakistani peace of shit"

It's quite obvious now that this person did fraud with me and ran away with my $1,000. I've opened a dispute with PayPal and will see how they can assist in this regard.

It would be nice of someone to share their experience and the best way to get my money back whether here or through PM/DM.

Thank you!
AbdulBasit Makrani

Sad to have happened to you brother. Hope you get your money back from PayPal looted by this scammer!

Thanks for sharing although we don’t need every nasty word he spoke but I get it. You are pissed.

I am having a hard time understanding why a domainer of your experience and stature would agree to a deal with a newb without the name being pushed first. You could easily have made that a requirement of the deal. You push first or no deal.

Anytime a deal here with a newbie might be too good to be true —it usually is. If the mods said you HAD to push first then that is an issue that needs dealing with imo.

The only reason I transferred money first was because I said of PayPal which I usually use and the sellers are normally agreeing to transferring the domain first or use escrow service. But since I agreed for paying via PayPal so I just went ahead in order to avoid any negative points or infraction by NamePros. I could see several red flags but I still went and paid just for the reason mentioned above.

Might sounds crazy but that's it. And this is the first time I got scammed in my 10+ years of domaining. I know many people have tried to scam me but I avoided each and every time because I don't get lured into too good looking deals.

Thanks once again for your feedback.

First of all thanks for sharing this so that others will be cautions.

I hope you will get your 1,000 back

and secondly this is really a bad taste, All conversation clearly shows that you never promised to pay via paypal (and it was only when seller will send you domain) and the other guy always said "You choose" and the way he was talking to you was itself suspicions.

The painful part is that why moderators could not understand all the conversation and made you to pay via paypal (i would say forcefully they made you pay 1,000) and even they did not respect your integrity. Also the example of grocery doesn't fit here which is again given by some moderator.

I hope they will seriously see this kind of matter in future.

"I hope everything is well with you". This is the first red flag. Sounds like those spam e-mails.

I agree with @AuctionBio that it looks like mods forced you to pay. It was my first thought when I saw your print screens. They shouldn't do that. Maybe they would help you somehow, in your discussions with PayPal, to get your money back.

Anyway, it isn't your fault. Never blame the victim!

I hope you'll recover your money. :)

I hope they'll (moderators) helps me if the need arise with PayPal support.

I'm sorry for what happened to you. I can say that I've never been scammed through namepros and this isn't stated enough. Namepros seems to be safer than a vast majority of online forums. I've had about a hundred transactions and I'm sure many people have had more without experiencing any scam attempts.

However, I have to say I don't like how you handled this. With any new accounts, I make it abundantly clear that they need to push first if we're gonna make a deal. Never had a problem with that.

It's logical. You're the verified 15 year old account with the pro badge. Just your profile alone is worth more than $1k usd so you're the one who has everything to lose. Please show where mods told you that you should pay first as if that's true, they're 100% in the wrong. I would honestly have a problem with the mods if they told me that.

That being said, you will get your money back. Just start a paypal dispute and explain the situation. I've got my money back all 3 times I've been scammed in my life (not on namepros) and paypal is honestly notoriously buyer-biased.

Thanks for your valuable feedback. I understand what you're saying.

Regarding the moderator, kindly check 15.png and 16.png attachments where the mod asked me to make the payment first via PayPal (because I agreed with this method initially). Also gave the example of grocery store as shown in that snapshot.

I asked them if they can provide any safety or prevent from any potential fraud so I was told that they can only get involved if the fraud occurs. Also the maximum they'll take action is to ban this scammer account on permanent basis and he won't be able to open any more new accounts in the future is what I'm told.

I would have thought that this would go without saying. But I guess the lesson here is to always clearly specify you need to receive the domain first unless the mods think the money should always be paid first.
In that case, you would always have to use dan.com or escrow with newbies. There's a good chance I asked some newbies for the domain first but I can't recall any specific cases.

I've had no problems with it; people will usually send the domain because they understand the concept of trust and reputation. If they're not scammers, they're not going to have a problem with it.

I would have personally taken the infraction from the mods here. Especially since his paypal is fresh and his name is Tiago Silva (Thiago Silva).

If you hadn't agreed to receive the domain, then you made an unintentional mistake. The worst you should be able to get for that is negative feedback from him since no deal ever happened and you had genuine concerns.

The grocery store example doesn't make sense at all.

You pay first, but you're actually GUARANTEED to leave with the product you pay for... It's not the case with a person-to-person domain name transaction.

I totally agree with you. Well explained. I'll be more clear in the future. Although I'm but this time I got caught up because I didn't wanted any infraction/warning from NamePros to keep the record clean.

Thank you dear for your feedback and suggestions.

That's a valid point for sure and I missed it.

Just because I agreed to pay via PayPal thinking the person will transfer the domain to me as this has happened to me normally. Because people see my profile and trusts easily. Or we use escrow service.

I'll keep you guys posted how it goes further with PayPal dispute. Currently I need to wait a week or so for making the PayPal to get involved. They give some 7 days to mutually try and resolve the issue but this scammer is using very abusive language which can be seen in the snapshot/attachment number 39.png

Namepros pressuring you to start a deal? That's not acceptable. It would be fine to pressure someone to complete already started transaction: domain transfered > waiting for money, or, money transfered > waiting for domain.
Nothing changed hands, what's the problem calling it off?
At the grocery story you can pick an item, go to the cash register, change your mind, you don't want to buy it, leave it there and walk away.

@Alfa Mod Team
@Echo Mod Team

As @Zanok and @timestamp said that grocery store example doesn't fit with the domain dealing and I missed the point they've explained that in grocery store I get the product guaranteed whereas here I didn't had any guarantee at all.

Kindly explain. Thanks!

You let your guard down because you wanted to help him out. I hope you continue to try to help others but don't use Paypal next time.

Paypal always sides with the customers / buyers. I hope this dispute goes in your favour.

I agree with your points. Surely will be more careful next time. By the way, I got scammed for the first time in domaining. Lesson learnt.

A few years ago, when I bought a domain name, I also encountered a liar on namepros,
I also paid with PayPal,
Then he also gave me the transfer code,
But a few days after I started transferring domain names, he canceled the transfer,
At that time, I just arrived at namepros,
So I didn't understand it at that time, so I asked management for help,
Fortunately, after the end, PayPal paid me the money,
They said that when they met professional swindlers,
The money was transferred by the swindler after a few seconds,
All the information on PayPal is false,

Hi Abdul

i got same the same pm, but did not respond.

moderators should review his account to see how many other members he sent the pm to.

he has posted in ppc section not long ago, claiming to make $200 > $300 a month
also, has posted that his account was banned at Bodis.
(they may have his identity)

such posting always raises the red flag to me.

moderators should have not forced you to make payment first, since it was not a traditional sale.

i am sorry for what happened to you and hope you get your cash back.

lmk if i can help.

imo...

Next time, kindly refer anyone asking for a loan to Epik. They have a system for that.

Also, it doesn't cost anything to be courteous and decent in your choice of words. Especially, in business dealings.

So if someone can't manage that, then there's no way I'll do business with them.
