I had a domain WebsiteL.com which expired on 2022-08-27 , today is 36th day after its expiry ( redemption period ) , strangely i recieved email from namecheap today that domain contacts has been changed to someone with email:: [email protected]

I know domain might have less value but how namecheap changed ownership to someone else who renewed the domain and who is using lander to sell it.

Note: Domain ownership is changed on 35th day of expiry , domain is now renewed and up for sale.

Please refer to Domain Registration Agreement, paragraph 25 After expiration of the term of a domain name registration. https://www.namecheap.com/legal/domains/registration-agreement

Reactivation Period Process. You acknowledge and agree that timely renewal of your domain name(s) is your sole responsibility and you assume all risks and consequences related thereto if you do not renew your domain(s) prior to expiration of its original term. We may, but are not obligated, to offer a period of time, the “Reactivation Period”, where you can renew an expired domain. You acknowledge and agree that offering a Reactivation Period is in our sole discretion and that we shall not be liable for any reason should we choose not to offer such period. If offered, the Reactivation Period exists for approximately 30 days after expiration of the term of domain name registration services and may involve additional fees which we and your Primary Service Provider may determine. You acknowledge and agree that, during this time and any time thereafter, we may make expired domain name services(s) available to third parties, that we may auction off the rights to expired domain name services, and/or that expired domain name registration services may be re-registered to any party at any time.

Its very dangerous to let your domain expire and renew it within the grace period at NameCheap.

Technically there is NO GRCAE PERIOD in Namecheap.

Godaddy, Dynadot, EPIK, Namesilo are giving minimum 30 days grace period to renew your domains and they will guarantee that you can renew or transfer within 30 days

But as per Namecheap's TOS they have the right to sell your domain after expiring (No matter the domain is within the 30 days grace period)

Thats strange and new thing to me. Selling domain on 35th day of expiry is not a good thing.

As per their TOS, they can sell expired domains even on 1st day after expiry. :(

Why let the name expire at all? Renew on time and the problem is solved.

Not everyone is same around the world with no problems and pockets full of dollars , I let the domain expired because i was busy in other projects and till date i was not aware of their TOS , namecheap in my eyes is worst registrar than others as they can sell or use any domain after 30 days of expiry.

The best registrar in this case is networksolutions , i transferred domain after 42 days of expiry with out paying any extra fees.

Namecheap is greedy registrar for sure.

NameCheap sure is greedy and uses cheap tactics like their name. I noticed that they price expired domains whatever they feel like and not use standard pricing. For e.g. if a domain expires then it should be available in auction with a standard price for e.g. $12 or whatever is suitable. But they price their domains based on keyword, domain length etc.
A few days ago I saw solar.xyz being in expired auction and its starting bid price was like $15 but the renewal price was more than $3000.

@tamar
Why not show renewal price on auctions?

The domain is premium and the renewal price is determ by the registry, not Namecheap.

Then how come other registrars are not doing the same? Here's one example from NameSilo and the domain is lipsticks.xyz which is taken in 47 extensions but its renewal is still $9.95

I am yet to see any premium renewal price for xyz on other registrars.
You need to read the xyz threads. Premium high renewals on some xyz names have been mentioned many times. Its the buyers job to know the renewal price if they are buying premium etc. Swetha has discussed how to verify as well what is the renewal before you buy.

I am actually asking why and now how. I know renewal price is high but question is why NameSilo is not doing it and why NameCheap is doing it? Gave one example above of lipsticks.xyz

I can only answer for what I've provided already. This is a registry specific issue for premium domains in our marketplace. I can't tell you if lipsticks is premium. Maybe it isn't.
