Hi peeps,

I have a buyer who wants to buy two domains but he wants to do it with GoDaddy because that is what he is used to. The domains are registered at Dynadot. Can I sell the domains at GoDaddy somehow without paying 20% commission for each name?

Thanks.

Sure.

Let the buyer know that if they buy at X using X payment method (your current selling parameters) the price will be X.

If they insist on using gddy (or any other marketplace charging a fee) let them know they will be responsible to pay that additional fee. Go to gddy/nic now and increase your price to reflect their pricing.

Exactly as @Mister Funsky said. You wanna use GD the price is 20% higher.

Yup, that makes sense, was just hoping that there is a different option for when you bring your own buyer like on DAN.com. I guess I should just tell him the bad news then.

Thanks for the replies. Appreciate it.

Also bear in mind, that it is likely that your prices are high (ish) already and you can probably absorb the 20% hit and make the sales. You risk losing the sales completely if you get the end user/buyer offside. A domain in the hand is worth two in the portfolio LOL.

There are always two sides to the story and the buyer may just be lacking in confidence but will never admit it and they are happy using GD.

Good luck with your sales.

That is a good point. In my case I have the buyer locked in, so I can afford to ask for an increase. There is also the option of 50/50.

Your buyer should step outside their comfort zone (I know this won't be a popular opinion).

Further, if the purchase price is over $5k, Godaddy will send the transaction straight to Escrow.com, and that can create a whole separate nightmare scenario.

I'd also make certain whether the buyer just prefers to have the domain registered at Godaddy.

I had this exact thing happen once. The buyer had no idea who Dan.com was and they wanted to buy through GoDaddy. I did my best to convince them that Dan was reputable. Eventually the buyer felt more comfortable and went through with the purchase at Dan.

Although under the current circumstances with GoDaddy buying Dan, it kind of skews the equation somewhat. 😄

They are not that knowledgeable and are used to GoDaddy because it's more safe and comfortable. What?! GoDaddy is buying DAN.com?? Ah crap.
