100% MY OPINION based on my conversations

My latest DAN.com "fake buyer" mystery solved. So it turns out my buyer was attempting to pay but more than one of their credit cards failed due to foreign transactions in Netherlands. Dan.com didn't bother to inform me. They told the client to WIRE the funds to their international bank in Netherlands which they were hesitant to do.

So it was not a buyer that never responded as Dan.com said it was a buyer that COULDN'T pay because the way Dan's banking is set up. Dan neglected to inform me of an attempted payment they said the buyer never replied. When I talked to the buyer they said more than one bank credit card failed due to suspected FRAUD and then they were wary to wire to bank in Netherlands plus foreign wires are pain in the ass. So unless they buyer is just DYING to get your domain name they are going to move on.

In this last case the buyer invoice allowed to locate them online and they are now purchasing via Afternic.

Point here is Dan.com doesn't tell you they are TRYING TO PAY and if the buyer doesn't answer phone call from unknown number or open email from unknown sender Dan.com just claims buyer never responded which to me is VERY different than TRIED to pay then got discouraged and moved on.

Once you agree to accept price you are no longer able to message the buyer and they can't message you so Dan.com cuts off any communication that would be beneficial.

I am likely moving away from Dan.com but from now on I am going to try to at least get contact information from the buyer before accepting the offer so i can follow up directly if payment never comes.

Also many of my buyers want to use corporate AMEX cards for the points and the security and Dan.com will apparently never move to allow AMEX.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Dan has a major problem which they don't want to fix (parking speed), but in this topic (communication) it is slightly better than AN and Sedo. At least they show IP of the buyer.

Since looks like Dan will never fix the parking problem, it must be intentional,
and we must move somewhere else for parking, but others are not good either.
Looks like all marketplaces are trying to prevent sales and cash flow so they can grab/dropcatch
domains and sell at their own marketplace.
Clearly Dan was designed for bulk buyers: accept, decline, with one click, without opening the negotiation window.
Who would be that bulk buyer: themselves.

Can it be the case that Dan might have been bought by Godaddy, as a second Afternic?
Not impossible imo.
Can be possible !!

Well DAN is good in many major aspects too !!

Even dan shows IP of the person too.. when you hover the mouse to the flag of the buyer !!

Moreover, i like parking of dan to be best among others... Also the hybrid page of DAN is also much better when we talk about the PPC parking pages of AN, sedo etc.

Only Payment related fees is the issue with DAN. If that gets solved, i guess DAN Is the best.

Do we still get higher parking payouts if we go directly with Bodis (using the Bodis landing page) than we get if we use Dan's hybrid Bodis landing page?

Yes both are equivalent i guess. Dan doesn't charge any amount for parking...

Yeah, but I think the payout was higher if we used Bodis nameservers directly, and lower if we used Dan's hybrid page. Not sure why, or if it's even true, but that's what I was told.

@Real AJ Martin
You are right. Your buyer experience happened to me as well. I had a deal with a nameproser. I had to make the payment through DAN but DAN rejected my two cards ... I tried hard to pay but the problem was not solved. I apologized to the seller and told him that we complete the transaction through SquadHelp Imported Lead. The card that DAN rejected was easily accepted by SquadHelp and the transaction was very smooth!

Many buyers on Dan don't really want to buy domain names,
They're just bored,
Just making fun of you,
There are too many buyers who will not pay if I agree,
Dan should punish such people,
Otherwise, it is a waste of the seller's time

They should do what Sedo does. Release full details of the buyer who doesn’t pay.

Whoever pays first should get the name. That way they don't shut the name down for days waiting for payment. No incentive for buyers to act fast. The name should remain open to further offers until payment is initiated.

I currently have a sale and no reply from the buyer for days. I had made an outbound effort on the name. Now anyone else interested cannot pursue a sale. Doesn't seem right.

I agree, buyer should be told there is no sale without payment and anyone else can buy it and the seller can change the price too. If they ask for a two day hold for a wire etc, that is acceptable, other than that, pay or ban.

Got this message via email this morning:
Hi Eric,

We unfortunately are forced to cancel the transaction for the domain GoPhotography.com. Please check your transaction window for more details about the reason.

View transaction

Thanks,

Dan
And here are "more details about the reason" in my transaction window:
Transaction canceled
This transaction is cancelled.
Messaging DAN for the details, I got this reply:
Your buyer has informed us they can not proceed with the purchase so the transaction has been cancelled.

However, I am going to forward feedback to the team to make sure we include more information when a transaction is cancelled.

Bottom line: 3 days were wasted, and the domain was kept from others who may have been interested in buying, following outreach on this name. I doubt anyone is still checking after seeing the name was "sold"

Maybe there should be an "in between" message from the time a deal has been made until the time the name has been paid for and the transaction is actually closed.

I have to say Dan.com has been better experience lately - now they need to take AMEX and have US client payment options using GoDaddy banking
