Hi all,

I hope everyone is doing well in domaining as well as in life.

Just one simple question for those who are using Afternic or selling domains on Afternic frequently. What Afternic setup is best for sale conversion?

GoDaddy uses 65% of Buy Now price as the starting offer for their "NameFind" portfolio as well as for the domains listed on GD auctions.

Whereas big player MikeMann uses 85% of the Buy Now price as starting offer for his domains listed on Afternic. On the other side, Swetha (XYZ queen) opted for a fixed-price strategy with no starting offer/Make Offer option for all domains on all platforms.

So, which setup is ideal for sale conversion on Afternic?

Please share your experience/expertise with Afternic listings and strategies that help you to get sales.

Thank you for your precious time :)

Thank you for the insights. If you don't price your domains individually, how do you decide on a price for all of them? And do you ever look at the traffic stats to determine whether it may be worthwhile to change the price higher or lower based on the attention it is getting?
No, IMO Traffic has very very poor correlation with the probability to sell. My point is I am not interested in type-traffic.

Also I don't deal in high end names. I buy names that are likely to appeal to someone starting a Small Online Business who will do 6 figures to 7 figures in business. These people can afford 2000-5000 or say 7000.

And then, I price in buckets Based on how lucrative the Niche is. Ecom business, service apps etc, 2000. Finance and tech 5-6K and so on.
Also if my target business falls on the lucrative category and the name is taken in many extensions with several corporate results, meaning if the potential buyer pool is large, I will price a Bit high since I can wait for the right opportunity and I feel confident to hold.

How I decide the price bucket depends on STR. I don't try to maximize the value out of name. I try to maximise the value of out portfolio.

Let us say I have bucket with 100 names:
let is hypothetically assume
When I price at 1000, I sell 3 names
When I price at 2000, I sell 2 names
When I price at 500, I sell 9 names

Then I will price at 500. I don't care if I undersell. This is just an example and not usually the case

Now if I price at 5000 and manage to sell 1 name, I will price at 5000

I am just simplifying things, but you get the drift.
I am talking about my portfolio names, or inventory quality.

Sometime I buy a very good name and I can afford to moonshot it since I have a good cashflow from my portfolio

Priced domains opted into fast transfer with a for sale lander setup yields the best results. Undersandably there may be domains you cannot price because either you dont want to do anything but take offers for certain domains or you have so many domains that pricing them all takes time and keeping up with market changes etc is a lot to work on regularly. So failing priced, opted in, and landers, your Second best bet is to have at least a floor price, and landers because then the brokers can work with the buyer as soon as an offer comes in without having to wait on you to get back to them with a price. Many domain buys, especially in the sub 5k range are impulse buys and the easier it is for a buyer to get the domain quickly with less friction the better your sales chances are.

I have a few questions regarding landers:

1. When we should use NS3/4 landers & NS5/6?
2. If compared these landers, which one performs better?
3. Should we use GoDaddy tested price strategy (i.e. Buy Now + 65% of Buy Now as Make Offer) or Only BIN (One price for Buy Now/Floor/Make Offer)?
4. Any optimization tips to boost sales on Afternic/GoDaddy?

Thank you :)

Hi,

I see that ns3/ns4 is for price request

Is there a landing page for make offer?

Thanks

With the newest testing we did and this is not finalized there seems to be a slight advantage - SLIGHT - to 3 and 4 vs 5 and 6. But it is very close and again not completed.

Great, thanks. What about 1 & 2 where there is a sale banner that leads to Price request. Is there any big difference?

I really wish there was an option to have a "make offer" box on the ns5/ns6 servers. The buy it now button, GoDaddy branding, and a make an offer box would be a killer combo. Considering switching some of my domains back to DAN just so I can have both BIN and Make Offer on the landing page. Please consider adding this..

For afternic, you NEEED a BIN if the price is less than 100K.
That is a no brainer. I use AFternic for their FT network and you need a BIN to have your name show up the reg path of their FT partners.

Afternic doesn't have a make offer option the Lander so it is not very relevant.
It only shows make offer when the name is being searched in the Marketplace.

I neer touch the min offer field, so it is $20 for me and it had never bothered me.
I sold some 40 names on Afternic last year and I had only 2 make offer sales.

I had to relist my names after some Issue when when I sent my csv, I forgot to add minimum offer and for a couple months I had Min offer= BIN and even then a Buyer reached out to AFternic broker and made me an offer about 70% of sales price.

So I feel the make offer is not make or break IMO.

In my Opinion, make offer only is good if you only have a small very high quality portfolio and you want to make the most out of every name,

I don't like dealing with clients. And I don't feel good haggling for $1000 so I prefer straight BIN with little interaction. Why do you think I work from a Man Cave? So my opinion is biased

I also don't price individually. I play the portfolio game and have found that BINs give me the most bang for the buck. For my portfolio in particular, The increase in total revenue using a good pricing model makes up for any potential loss of a small sale or the one off lotto sale from a make offer.
Hi, thanks for sharing your experience. Are your domains listed with the Afternic Fast Transfer?

I setup a BIN price for all of them and raised the minimum offer to 199$.

It's a good strategy in your opinion and something similar to what are you doing, except that you didn't touch the 20$ minimum offer? Thanks!

I’ve had a fantastic last year which was another record breaking one than 2020. The last year ended with just a little over 6,300 domains in my portfolio and 120+ domain sales in total with around 2.5% STR. I use NS3/NS4 with all domains having set up BIN no matter whatever the price range they're in.

Overall, I'm very happy with Afternic.
Hi I'm a newbie :D
Can you please exlpain me what are NS3/NS4?

I listed all my domains on Afternic with BIN + make offer 199$.

Also I listed all of them on SEDO with the same values and make offer too.

Also I use DAN.COM as lander with only make offer.

Can you tell me what do you think?

Should I change something?

My domains are mostly average brandable domains or exact keywords research .com like JustCactus.com, AlopeciaDoctor.com, SetShell.com, AppBirdie.com, etc... where the prices range is between 1k and 15k (a very few in this higher tier price).

Thanks a lot!

You don’t have to have a BIN and I get offers regularly with names listed not pointing to Afternic . Just because it works for you doesn’t mean another way is wrong.

You should only have one bin in place which I do —its just not at Afternic.
Hi, so can you tell us what's your strategy?

ns3.afternic.com
ns4.afternic.com

Are the nameservers of Afternic sales lander. One of the sample landers you may check out here www.BeeGreen.com using the above nameservers.

Also I use BIN for all my domains at Afternic and Sedo. I don't use Dan at all.

Good luck!

Hi Abdul! Thank you very much.

They sent me two types of possible landers.

This one and another one with the BIN price.

https://www.godaddy.com/forsale/tow...NNS&traffic_type=TDFS_BINNS&traffic_id=binns&

Which one of those performs better in your opinion?

Thanks Abdul! I'm gonna read it :)

Btw did you try domains.io?

It mixes a wider range of possibilities and seems pretty good.

Not yet. Will be looking out for the feedback of others before I may try out.
Thanks!
