Dan.com traffic numbers

I moved some names to Dan a few months ago. Some of these names are very obscure "made up" names that I bought for personal use and thought no one but me would be interested in owning.

But I see these names getting double and triple digit visitors/traffic and i am wondering if this is real traffic or does Dan have some kind of bot that pings the names on the platform.

Anybody else notice that even the most obscure names in your portfolio get visits?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
They're counting number of page views, so if you or anyone else visited domain landing page several times, it's included in stats/counted.

If the domains have backlinks, you have to take into account bots too. I also felt surprised to see the stats of my names at epik.

Thank you, everyone, for your insights.
Could you kindly explain the backlink issue? Is this relevant if the domain is parked at DAN or siimply listed with parking done elsewhere?
I'm still trying to figure out why one of my " .me" domains seems to get a high amount of traffic daily on Dan while parked there. There's nothing particularly unusual about the domain and had a fairly low valuation. After being posted several months ago, the darn thing just consistently keeps getting high hits with no bids. My next step is to add Google Analytics to figure out the mystery.

Backlinks are links at other websites to your domain. When bots such as search engine bots crawls those websites they may open links to your domain along with the others. You can check if that is the case with the help of a backlink checker tool or simply googling your domain.

That won't change the actual page visit, but the number of visiters shown to you might change because the way of counting unique visits in other landing pages may be different from that of DAN.

Thank you so much for the information. The backlink checkers so far have been very interesting, and I did find a backlink associated with the high traffic. Now I'm trying to get the google analytics going, to really have fun!

My experience with Dan says, those are real and human visits compared to what I was seeing on Sedo where daily I was getting 100 visits on my names with no inquiry or sale for nearly 8+ months where as with Dan got one sale and couple of offers in 4 months... This makes me believe they have real visits

Where were the domains parked?

To clarify the last question, presumably all the domains were parked through Sedo? I am still getting traffic to the domains there, despite after moving all the landers to DAN. The numbers, however, are much lower now.
Did you notice any difference in the traffic by lowering the prices substantially on Sedo? I tried this several times, lowering them in some instances to less than cost (which was the one that sold). The impact on traffic stats appeared minimal.

We'll see how changing all the landers to DAN works. I've been directly comparing the DAN/SEDO/Afternic platforms over the past three months. Sedo won for traffic numbers, but so far Aftneric has won for sales results. And, for them, no traffic stats appear to be readily found (unless using their landers). That's fine with me, as long as they keep the sales coming!

Sedo traffic is mostly bot, I see 100+ traffic on name parked for just 1day and same name get very less traffic on Dan and dont get any traffic on Afternic. So from traffic point of view Dan shows real traffic where as on Sedo most are bot, you might be getting real visitors on Sedo but they are overshadowed by bots...

Why does DAN get so much less traffic from the BOTS?

it doesn't. It just filters these out with better analytics. =) If you use google analytics, it does a GREAT job filtering out bots. Versus using server side stats which just count number of page loads.

Dan numbers are pretty spot-on for actual page views, as opposed to somewhere like Sedo, which is Bot Central.

I had Olympiques on Dan and it blew up the last few weeks and another domain popped out of nowhere and I figured out it was because another company (stupidly) started up with the same 2-words, but separated by a hyphen, and as most people forget the "-", I was getting a LOT of siphoned traffic.

If we want to know about real traffic, we can use cloudflare dns , set smart firewall parameters and block all bots and certain actions to get a real visitor for our domains.

Might be we really shock after implementing that and get less visitor, but it is our real visitor. 1000, 10000, or 1.000.000 bots visitors is totally worthless. We only need one visitor to click BIN or make an offer seriously.

Did you offer to sell your domain to that company? After all, you were getting the traffic and don't have that hyphen!:xf.smile::xf.smile:

Sorry about the delay thanking you for the response. I've been working hard on trying to set up analytics on my Dan domains.
Is there a possibility that the "bot" traffic could be helpful in some instances? If some "bots" are for monitoring the price, then perhaps they could be useful -- adjusting the price lower might trigger the sale. Admittedly, I tested that hypothesis, though, and didn't see evidence supporting this.

I have some domains in Dan. Until I watched bots, type-in domain dials
