The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Companies That Upgraded Their Domain Names to .Com -

https://www.embrace.com/companies-that-upgraded-their-domain-names/

Far from a complete list, but interesting still.

The same story plays out over and over. You find success, you upgrade to .COM.

The few stories about going to .XYZ like Alphabet (Google) and Block (Square) are more like corporate sites.

I mean has anyone actually visited ABC.xyz or Block.xyz? It is not like either company is giving up on their primary domains with the the traffic in Google.com and Square.com.

Brad
Xyz seems to be the home of splash pages containing multi coloured shapes or promises of Blockchain stuff that nobody cares about.

Are you silly that think all .xyz websites are shown in there?
Fair enough, but if we listed all the .COM websites this forum would likely crash. I doubt it could handle a post with tens of millions of websites listed.

Ones with content that people want as well. A domain extension can't thrive on registrations alone. Many hyped extensions have gone this way over the years, they exist but they're not investment grade. XYZ is absolutely no different as far as I can see.

If everyone who was snapping up these XYZ names for normal prices would develop a website instead of sitting on them, something could start cooking. But creating websites takes time and effort.

If Daniel Negari continues to successfully associating .xyz with well known blockchain name servers like Zilliqa’s ZNS or Solana’s SNS and such it will be a significant step forward.

The few stories about going to .XYZ like Alphabet (Google) and Block (Square) are more like corporate umbrella sites, not consumer sites.

Total 417 company names on the list, large enough for a sample size. Only one company is previously a .xyz domain. 275 companies changed from .com to .com.

The thought about upgrading to .com is more applicable to .com than .xyz.

I am not intended to play this number game. My intention was to show that .xyz is being used globally.

Whenever we post some .xyz sales, Some random new member comes and starts a thread comparing it with .com or .whatever_they_wanted_to_promote_extensions.

Then some haters(Not all the members in this thread) would step in to start trolling about .xyz so that these threads would crawl in Google. I dont think it's a coincidence. It's better advised to keep silent.
Let them think whatever they want. Time will tell the truth.

We aren’t talking about huge monster corps who can acquire a com if they so chose. We are talking about everyone else.

Whats hard to understand about that this that you have to keep beating at the com drum instead of acknowledging that only one entity can have a dot com and there are alternates being utilized every day?

A dot com in 2022 is not actually inherently better than the same word in another extension. Its what you make of it.

Time to focus on the present and the future and not stubbornly hanging onto the past.

Everyone should be diversifying their investments to match the curent times. Guess Dorsey thought so too.

Well, that is your opinion but reality says something different.

You have terms like TV and Fitness selling for 4 figure re-seller prices in .XYZ. They would sell for millions in .COM because of the credibility they would instantly bring.

I would bet you almost every .XYZ company would trade their domain for the same term in .COM if it was available.

Again .XYZ works the same way as .COM, just like .XYZ works the same way as .Horse. There is a lot more to valuation than just how an extension technically works.

I sell many secondary extensions BTW like NET/ORG/US and others. I am not against other extensions, there is just no comparison to .COM.

Whoever says or writes "upgrading to .com" is brainwashed (in that point), there is no "upgrade to .com" because com is not top, .xyz doesn't need to be upgraded hahaha what a silly idea!

But people will continue to say "upgrade to .com" as long as they think ".com is Rolex" (or similar nonsense).

But a "Rolex" (or other "status symbols") is rather top than ".com" (if at all as at the end of the day, only top is top) and .xyz knows this as well.

Yes that is why we call Topic in a Forum and not Comic, because we are serious guys.

Formerly I works as SEO at local company and manage several clients. According to real results on Google SERP , there isn't difference com or xyz or whatever extension.

SEO is about to rank your site with targetted keyword, beat competitor and follow search engine algorithm properly. We should follow all google rule to get the best result, its not easy , need smart strategy month to month or day by day.

.com, net , org and xyz are a global extension, they have same opportunity to reach the best rank in google, bing ,yahoo, etc. Rank isn't determine by any extension, but its follow search engine rule, natural backlinking process, quality of content , user experience, and real time engagements .

The only different is when we should compete with ccTLD like .us , uk, de and other cctld. I usually recommend local small business to use cctld, but secure .com to protect their brand. Cause based my experience website with ccTLD could rank higher locally with same SEO effort.

For small business , local oriented : ccTLD is good option when other extension gone.

For Global Company : avoid ccTLD is better, that's why facebook use facebok.com, google use google.com , amazon use amazon.com, etc.

XYZ is good extension too, its similar with .com, .net ,org, .life , .club and other global extension. But we can't ignore the real fact, almost international company usually choose .com as their official website names

FYI : I am sorry for my bad english...

Lol, so we've established that .com is more popular.

The difference between .xyz and .com, is that the .xyz buyers don't give a shit.

I block .xyz from my servers. Since they more or less gave them away all I've ever seen coming from this extension is spam. Never a single legitimate email.

Also xyz looks unprofessional. That's it's biggest down side imho.

People say that it's looks generic, I don't think so, I think it looks like a kids' extension.

Every topic includes top, even if it is about com / xyz.

The international markets (including Spain) are using .xyz domains.

Check yourself: https://gen.xyz/live

4 websites in Spain. It's on 🔥 over there.
Spain and Latin America are very poorly represented as are many other countries, only 1 site in all of Central America. And most of the sites are in English. Most sites are in US, Canada, Australia, UK. What is surprising is that only 1 site in South Africa and a number of sites in China. Clearly .xyz does not have any relevant penetration into international markets.

A new difference between .com and .xyz is that today I registered 0️⃣ .com domain names but 3️⃣ .xyz domain names.

Having invested in both….trying to be fair…..xyz is very cheap to register but sale-through rate is much lower than .com…..

Once again, first, the website does not showcase all .xyz websites. Can you find block.xyz, spiral.xyz and many other developed .xyz domains that were reportedly sold on the website? No.

Second, my intention was to show the global presence of .xyz. .Com is more poorly represented in some countries, such as some European countries where ccTLDs are more commonly used, than in the USA. All domain extensions have such penetration issues.
