Hello everyone, new member here, got into domain names in the past few days and trying to get involved in this community!
I was wondering if there's a certain estimated value point past which a certain domain name becomes valuable.
Which ones should I keep or discard?
Right now I'm keeping every domain name I'm finding out from the $800 to $2400 range (highest value I've found so far), registering only a bunch of the highest ones.
(I'm using the free domain name appraisal from godaddy).
Let me know what you all think, any advice is much appreciated on the topic!
Thanks for your time.

Don't use automated appraisals. Forget about them.

Stop spending money, and read this forum for at least 1 month.

Check Namebio sales daily.

Thanks for replying.
Should I use the "Appraisals" section here on the forum?

Hello and welcome. As said above, stop registering and start reading and take notes along the way (lots of info to learn).

Most of us here went down the same/similar path in the beginning. DO NOT rely on automated appraisal bots. Domaining is a marathon, not a sprint so buckle down for a long haul. It can pay off but it takes lots of time. Best of luck to you.

Thank you. As I started only a few days ago, the only way for me to get any type of value or path was to rely on that automated estimate, I guess it's time to drop it. I'm willing to invest my time into this and yea, I figured it takes a lot of time, years seems like.
Besides checking daily Namebio, is there any reliable source where I could learn more about this whole subject?

There are a few paid services that can be helpful but it is far too early for you to spend money on those.

I learned by very expensive trial and error...you are fortunate to have namepros to help you learn. The search function is your new best friend...do a search for 'domain beginners' and take notes...no matter how bright you may be, there is a ton of info to absorb.

Alright time to study and take notes!
What do you suggest I should do with the domains I've already registered?
I've registered five so far, about $85 (plus auction registration on godaddy).

Hi

since you started only a few days ago.... then how did you find domains or think about registering domains to resell for profit?

Hi
since we/i don't know what names you acquired, then how can we say what to do with them?

best mental position to put yourself in right now, is to consider the $85 spent, as your down payment to the learning curve you think you want to ride on.

Good Luck!

imo...

Godaddy appraisal is designed to make newbies buy worthless domain names. The only way to stop this is for Godaddy to post a disclaimer on the appraisal tool which reads " this tool is designed to make newbies like you buy worthless domain names " but unfortunately in business profit and corporate partnerships often come before honesty. The Godaddy appraisal tool is a total waste of time and if you look into the " similar sales " you will notice how long ago those sales took place. Not relevant to 2022 in the slightest. Detailed research is your friend.

Hello, yea i started on jan 4, I was thinking of some way to make profit since I'm a broke student and I stumbled upon domain names reselling. Spent a few hours the first day trying to grasp the basic concepts behind it, fairly simple idea, you try to find simple/real keywords that may be brandable and try to sell them to an end user or low price them for domain resellers. The other days i spent 8hrs a day between google domains to find out if a domain was free for register and the godaddy free appraisal tool to see if they were worth something. Currently saved 500 domains free to register from 1k to 2.4k estimated value.

Am I allowed to post the names here in order to see the best way to go on from here?

Yea I was unaware of this, some users told me a few hours ago that I should drop that tool, so I'm following your advice, I was using it as it was my only source of valuation before joining this forum.

# Think (research f.e. science) about where the world is going... min. 3+ years upfront.
1. Think like an Investor, not as a Trader
(If you aren't willing to own a domain for ten years, don't even think about reg./acquiring)
2. Understand business models (industry, sector / niche, geo, customer culture & habits)
3. The size of the customer base of a company / prospect
(Without a customer base, your names/naming will almost certainly fail)
4. Evaluate the Risk / Reward ($ Investment + $ Research Time + $% Holding Time (10 years) + Market size + Inflation = Price)
5. Referral traffic sources are meant to yield sales vs Landing page traffic.

Success!

Regards

The most important thing you can marketing in domain business is yourself (authority = referrals). Instead of pushing domains; Communicate (share) your knowledge / opinions, skills and experience (value) & market yourself via social.

The chances of you selling a registered-by-hand domain name for profit as a complete beginner is slim to non-existent. Rather than invest $ 10 in 50 crappy domain names better to invest $ 500 in one above average domain name. Single word domain names are the holy grail for sellers. Better to own one single word domain than 50 or 100 crappy ones. As a seller you should also not just limit yourself to dot com. Look at the daily sales to see what's selling and follow / read @Bob Hawkes blog. Also don't limit yourself to just selling domain names. There are also many other ways to monetise your domain names.

You mean allowing paid ads per click?

Think as an investor, how to evaluate opportunities, the strategy to follow to make profit, how to multiply the value as @redemo explained it many times, how to reach targeted customer, ...

the path i'm following :
1 - NamePros : @Bob Hawkes blogs, other contributor blogs and answers, News, Search bar, External links
2 - listening to domainnamewire podcasts
3 - other resources

"the more we learn the more we earn" as Warren Buffett said.
