Hi everyone! So basically I got into domaining because I wanted to have some digital assets to my name, which would incrase in value over time and could potentially be sold eventually for a considerable margin. Exactly one year ago I bought 3 domains and didnt do much else about it after it, I didn't really expect to make any money right away nor did I care about losing some money in the learning curve. Anyways I want to post here the steps I took and I'll be grateful if I could have some feedback or tips about my way of action thus far.

-chefily.com - Found this domain on a expired domain list and registered it for $9, thought it was a nice, kind of short and brandeable name on the cooking / food nieche. Submitted this one to brandbucket and got published for $1995. Also plublished it on the namecheap marketplace in the low $xxx's
-remodelgeek.com - Also found on expired list and registered for $9, this is my least favourite but it's the one that's getting the most traffic. Published it both on sedo and the namecheap marketplace in the low $xxx's
-biotic.me - found this one on a list of .me domains in this forum and registered it for $7. Thought it was a nice and short combination of words even tho im aware the .me domains arent the most valuable. I also published this one on both sedo and namecheap marketplaces.

All of these were registered at namecheap because i used it in the past, has lower prices and I could also pay in crypto, which is nice.
Now I just topped up the balance to renew all of these, but what I'm also finding out is that renwing is more expensive that registering them, which i didnt expect ($47.3 to renew all 3 of them).

I would like your opinion on my name picks, the places I've choosen to publish there, and maybe some advice I can take to potentially have better result in the next year. Thank you!

I am puzzled, ... Try liquidating to recover your loss.

If you really want to invest in some good domain name you need to take a bit more active approach. You need to read a lot, but also ''get your feet wet'' (buy more names!), not touching the water with one finger.
What you bought - is good actually, so, you have a ''skill'' to pick up names, now you need much more experience, which with 3 names you won't gain. The average sell thru rate for this business is 1-2%, so, with just 3 names, you can count how many years you will need to sell one (mathematically).
It's many hours of scrolling through ExpiredDomains and matching words on Excel for hand-reg. The good news is - once you become more skillful in picking names, the less time you need for this.

Read this:

As for these 3 names you have - just leave them the way they are, but change the registrar - $43 for 3 names even with .me - that's expensive. Both Dynadot and Epik will be cheaper (there are also NamesCheap and PorkBun that I used in the past - all good). Check renewal rates and better move in with one of them. Cause I guess you are with some ''not domainer-friendly'' registrar currently.

I agree on NameCheap. They have good transfer deals and other deals but their renewal price for dot com is $2.50 (plus .18 cents for Icann) more than Epik and $2.00 (plus .18 cents) more than Dynadot per domain currently . That puts them high up as one of the currently most expensive renewals.

There are deals all year for different things so you want to keep track of running promos at different registrars each month. For example, someone else might have had a better renewal price on the dot me as well and you could transfer. There are threads here that will alert you to current promos or even the ads at the top of the page.

With only 3 domains its going to be a wait for a sale unless you do some small flip here or elsewhere. Best of luck. Slower is actually better than spending a ton and worrying about renewals or realizing you registered a bunch of garbage a year later.

Try applying promo code COUPONFCNC to your two .COMs at Namecheap, and if still valid the renewal price should be less than $23 for both.

The biggest hit you're taking is on the .me, which is expensive to renew and transfer basically everywhere.

I would suggest dropping it and sticking to .COM, or XYZ since it's cheap and there's so much hype.

Whatever names you buy, if you want to sell them you have to get as much exposure as possible. If you dont have them listed with Afternic you're missing out of a huge amount of potential buyers. List your names at every marketplace you can and make sure you have landers set up on the domains. Good luck.

Thank you! My goal for this year will be to increase the amount of domains I have, I'll also try to look into other registrars. I already read that thread, in fact I been lurking in this forums for a while and read every resource out there, I only just created the account so I can have more participation. What do you think about the places i choosen to publish the domains?

Thanks for this code, sadly I renewed them right away after publishing this because domains were so close to expiring. I'll look into the XYZ's, didn't know they were getting popular... thanks for that tip :)

Thank you! I'll for sure register into afternic asap, any other marketplaces you would recomend?

Afternic
Sedo
Dan
Epik

Probably the main marketplaces. Afternic and Sedo also have further exposure available at other registrars for qualifying names (Sedo MLS and Afternic fast transfer).

Other marketplaces some use can be found here.

The own landing page, Afternic and Sedo - these are three places every your name should be. Sedo performs worst of all (for me at least) but it's still good to have names there for the exposure.
Brandables should go to BrandBucket, SquadHelp and BrandPa (in this order, imo).
Oh yeah, Dan is good too for listing, and some landing pages you can do with them too.
Good Luck!!
