Having relatives and friends scattered all over the globe, I am getting an overload of input (some on the record and some off the record).

My intention for this thread is for community members from around the world to post first hand stories and/or links to information sources that, for the most part, should be reliable.

In my community, just outside a major southeastern city, 'assets' have been placed. Only because I have friends in both high and low places have I heard about some of this. At this point it is only some basic medical supplies that should be equally distributed anyway in preparation for a natural emergency (hurricane/wildfire/etc.).

I will start with posting a link to a site with current data that seems to come from an aggregate of sources and hope others will do the same as they come across similar sites/pages.

Because of the 'typhoid Mary' spread-ability of this disease, I feel we may be in for a really large spread globally which will impact the global economy and through extension, retail domain prices.

One thing is for sure...things will get worse before they get better.

Conservative radio host regrets vaccine skepticism after being hospitalized with serious COVID-19 (msn.com)

"Phil Valentine had chosen not to get the vaccine as he assumed the chances of him dying from the disease were “way less than one percent”, according to a blog post he published in December 2020.

“I’m not an anti-vaxxer. I’m just using common sense.”

Hope he pulls through. Maybe he can do some real good with his new enlightenment.

COVID-19 anti-vaxxers use the same arguments from 135 years ago

"As we get closer to an effective vaccine for COVID-19, we should expect to see a renewed push of disinformation and vocal resistance from the anti-vaccination movement. Over the past year, seemingly endless conspiracy theories and misinformation campaigns have gained traction online amidst rising COVID-19 infection rates worldwide. Looking at the history of these movements can help us understand why they can be so effective at capturing a popular following."

Covid cases in US may have been undercounted by 60%, study shows

The number of Covid-19 cases across the US may have been undercounted by as much as 60%, researchers at the University of Washington have found.

The study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, builds on research which has found the number of reported cases “represents only a fraction of the estimated total number of infections”. It has important implications for how many Americans need to be vaccinated to stop outbreaks.

Some new data about infection undercounts.

CDC's new recommendation for vaccinated people to resume wearing masks faces intense backlash

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention faced major backlash on Tuesday for announcing its recommendation that vaccinated people return to wearing masks indoors.

The CDC announced plans to recommend that some vaccinated people should resume wearing masks indoors "under certain circumstances." This followed with an additional recommendation that everyone in K-12 schools should resume wearing masks regardless of vaccination status.

This announcement came one week after the CDC previously stated it had "no plans to update" its mask recommendations, though CDC panels recently recommended "fully vaccinated, immunocompromised patients" should continue wearing masks.

Good idea. Now I'm wondering if we'll be facing shutdowns again.

Russian Vax Disinfo Push Used ‘Every Trick in the Book’

From trying to pay off European influencers to unsuccessfully simulating a hack-and-leak operation, the trolls were apparently desperate to sow fear about Western vaccines.

The Russian marketing agency Fazze made a splash with attempts to pay off European influencers to spread fake dirt about Western vaccines in an apparent bid to make Moscow’s COVID-19 jab seem more appealing.

The effort to buy their way into social media popularity in Europe may not have been Fazze’s only gambit, however. The Daily Beast found a similar attempt to seed the same talking points and content to American audiences—part of “a multi-phase operation that employed almost every trick in the book,” according to Jack Stubbs, director of the social media analytics firm Graphika.

Another thought is that if you're going to wear masks, make them as comfortable and effective as you can type masks. I got my hands on 4 boxes from a Canadian manufacturer, and shared them with some people. All agreed they were better masks than the ones bought from places like Costco - the fit was better, didn't irritate with strands sticking out. Far as I know, everyone got more masks from same manufacturer.

Another advantage to masks like this is they've ASTM approval, and if you've had training on how to properly put on and take off masks, you might not have to shut down a workplace over covid exposure. One of the people I gave some masks to was someone who manages commercial construction work crews. That could've been some of his interest in wanting to get more.

Good idea. Now I'm wondering if we'll be facing shutdowns again.

At this point I think it will happen...it could happen just before labor day as cases increase. A shutdown will certainly happen if there is a large case increase after the labor day weekend due to excessive travel.

Another thought is that if you're going to wear masks, make them as comfortable and effective as you can type masks.

Good point. Sherwin Williams carries a comfortable mask that is 95 rated that I use when necessary. The only issue is the valve for the exhale does not block anything the wearer might be exhaling. Some places excluded this type of mask...it might be a good idea to have a couple of these on hand anyway (they are sold 2 to a pack).

So what are the chances this company will send money to each citizen that brought them this profit? (that wont happen...too many movers and shakers have their stock)

Pfizer raises vaccine sales forecast to $33.5 bln

Pfizer seems to have struck gold with its double-dose COVID-19 shot. The drug maker on Wednesday raised its sales forecast for the vaccine this year by nearly a third to $33.5 billion.

The company said it has signed deals for 2.1 billion doses of the vaccine it jointly developed with Germany’s BioNTech, and that could rise further if it signs more contracts. The pair expect to produce 3 billion doses this year.

The vaccine helped Pfizer nearly double its quarterly revenue, accounting for roughly 40% of the total.

Don't think valved type would be an acceptable mask in most workplaces. I see Very few 95 valved masks being worn by shoppers, fewer now than before - people got more educated(?) Alternative to the 95 valve type that the Canadian manufacturer I was referring to offers - good reviews on their site and other places: https://benchmarkppe.ca/product/c95-level-respirator-pfe-95-made-in-canada/

Don't know if they ship to US.

A good small U.S. medical mask manufacturer might be found in this google search, that one could order directly from:

Zero, but it's a great idea. It'd be nice if other companies would adopt the same strategy.

Covid-19 is NOT a virus.

Covid-19 is a disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

Coronavirus IS NOT a rhinovirus. It is an RNA virus.

I hope that helps clear things up ;)

it is a disease caused by a virus .. or several different strains of covid viruses at this point … the derivative of covid is the rhino virus and the other covid viruses combined with SARS - 2 ..

So basically … they took a simple standard covid virus .. combined it with a SARS -2 and made Covid - 19 … For the two to be combined in the wild and coexist together and further mend together to become a disease is almost impossible .. the white blood cells combat to not allow the two to be able to form one… to combine any virus with a disease is most likely done genetically .. so this disease complexity would have to be combined and grown to make hybrid form cell.

red blood cell platelets have never in time combined to create any virus in combination with a disease …

Fathom multiple sclerosis and the N1H1 influenza virus combining and making a separate new disease with their derivatives combined .. it has never happened since the beginning of time … science shows why it has never happened as well …although possible .. because ANYTHING is possible ..

So common sense should set in .. it is a laboratory made virus … and it took years to make because the covid virus and SARS will not coexist at the same time in the human body .

Mutation is what virus do .. what is covid 19 doing ??? It is mutating into new strains .. diseases do not mutate .. that is why there is not mutations of Multiple Sclerosis.. Alzheimer’s and other “” Diseases””

Make Sense ?????

Comparing some of what you said with some wik quotes:

Naming
The pandemic is known by several names. It is often referred to as its colloquial name, "the coronavirus pandemic",[7][8][9] despite the existence of other human coronaviruses that have caused epidemics and outbreaks (e.g. SARS).[10] Before it was declared a pandemic, it was known as "the coronavirus outbreak" and "Wuhan coronavirus outbreak".[11]

During the initial outbreak in Wuhan, the virus and disease were commonly referred to as "coronavirus" and "Wuhan coronavirus",[12][13][14] with the disease sometimes called "Wuhan pneumonia".[15][16] In January 2020, the WHO recommended 2019-nCoV[17] and 2019-nCoV acute respiratory disease[18] as interim names for the virus and disease per 2015 guidance and international guidelines against using geographical locations (e.g. Wuhan, China), animal species, or groups of people in disease and virus names in part to prevent social stigma.[19][20][21] The official names COVID-19 and SARS-CoV-2 were issued by the WHO on 11 February 2020.[22] Tedros Adhanom explained: CO for corona, VI for virus, D for disease and 19 for when the outbreak was first identified (31 December 2019).[23] The WHO additionally uses "the COVID-19 virus" and "the virus responsible for COVID-19" in public communications.[22]

The variants of the virus are also known by several names. Before being given official names by the WHO, they were commonly named after where the variants were found (e.g. Delta variant was known as the Indian variant),[24] and are also known colloquially as "variants of concern".[25][26] At the end of May 2021, the WHO assigned labels to all the variants after introducing a new policy of using Greek letters for variants of concern and variants of interest.

Epidemiology

Background
Main articles: Investigations into the origin of COVID-19 and COVID-19 pandemic in Hubei

Although the exact origin of the virus is still unknown,[28] the first outbreak started in Wuhan, Hubei, China in November 2019. Many early cases of COVID-19 were linked to people who had visited the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market in Wuhan,[29][30][31] but it is possible that human-to-human transmission was already happening before this.[32][33] On 11 February 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) named the disease "COVID-19", which is short for coronavirus disease 2019.[34][35] The virus that caused the outbreak is known as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), a newly discovered virus closely related to bat coronaviruses,[36] pangolin coronaviruses,[37][38] and SARS-CoV.[39] The current scientific consensus is that the virus is most likely of zoonotic origin, from bats or another closely-related mammal.[40][41][42][32][43]

Cause
Main article: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2

SARS‑CoV‑2 belongs to the broad family of viruses known as coronaviruses.[143] It is a positive-sense single-stranded RNA (+ssRNA) virus, with a single linear RNA segment. Coronaviruses infect humans, other mammals, and avian species, including livestock and companion animals.[144] Human coronaviruses are capable of causing illnesses ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS, fatality rate ~34%). SARS-CoV-2 is the seventh known coronavirus to infect people, after 229E, NL63, OC43, HKU1, MERS-CoV, and the original SARS-CoV.[145]

CDC document warns Delta variant appears to spread as easily as chickenpox and cause more severe infections

Washington (CNN)The Delta coronavirus variant surging across the United States appears to cause more severe illness and spread as easily as chickenpox, according to an internal document from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The document -- a slide presentation -- outlines unpublished data that shows fully vaccinated people might spread the Delta variant at the same rate as unvaccinated people.

CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky confirmed the authenticity of the document, which was first reported by The Washington Post.

"I think people need to understand that we're not crying wolf here. This is serious," she told CNN.

"It's one of the most transmissible viruses we know about. Measles, chickenpox, this -- they're all up there."

Just today I spoke with two people that thought they had a summer cold (did not suspect covid) but after they were unable to 'shake' it, went and got tested...it is covid so now they are quarantined. Mask mandates are coming again (Columbia variant in Florida seem to be spreading quickly).

CDC study of Provincetown COVID outbreak: 74% of Mass. visitors infected were fully vaccinated

A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study about the Provincetown COVID-19 outbreak published Friday provides new evidence that vaccinated people are vulnerable to the disease's highly contagious delta variant.

A key finding in the report is that almost three-quarters of people infected in the Provincetown outbreak were fully vaccinated.

That and other data from the Provincetown outbreak provided evidence that pushed agency scientists to advise that vaccinated people across the country again wear masks in indoor public settings in certain circumstances.

“High viral loads suggest an increased risk of transmission and raised concern that, unlike with other variants, vaccinated people infected with delta can transmit the virus,” CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said in a statement sent to USA TODAY on Friday. “This finding is concerning and was a pivotal discovery leading to the CDC’s mask recommendation.”

74% vaccinated … 26% un vaccinated .. makes a lot of sense right ??? Why are the vaccinated getting sick 3 times more than the un vaccinated ???
