I've seen some crazy .ai sales in the last months. What is everyone here thinking about .ai?

Seems like one word English dictionary .ai got value...

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I registered about 35 key word .ai domains in 2016, at same time I was CTO of an AI startup. And I purchased/acquired about 10 via the auctions.

12 sold to endusers between 3500 USD -27500 USD per domain from 2017- july 2021
And I sold about 10-12 to a domain investor. Not a wise move, but I try to never have seller or buyer's remorse.

All sales came via inbound, usually brokers.

The 20-25 I have now are probably my most valuable .ai domains, although a pharma company acquired one of my top AI names last month. this came via a broker with maybe 10 days of negotiations.

Some dropcatching companies will simply promote some random cc extensions to run their business.
I am not saying .ai is not good. After .AI they will bring .IA, after .VC they will bring .CV...
.KK kinda king
.DD dummy domainer.
.MM money machine..
They will comeup with a nice abbrevation and pump some sales.
We sheeps will run..place some backorders..auctions....Finally they will get what they want. imho

Actually not

Two letter codes are reserved as country codes and one must open them up and repurpose them in order to use them.

So you cannot just say I am going to make a .kk kinda king extension.

You could go .kindaking if you wanted too.

Now the big danger with any country code like .co or whatever is there is always a risk that the country that owns the extension can decide they want to repatriate it and then if you have a huge investment in it you would be out the money.

Imagine if the country that owns .co has an election and the new guy pulls a trumpism and says I an going to repatriate the extension. What a hell of a mess that would be.

Something you won't have to worry about with your .xyz domains but someone with .ai would have to consider before investing huge dollars.

This is my main concern though i didnt want to mention any Country code extension. There is a clear chance that those countries could grab if that ext becomes popular.
I am not aganaist CCtld's. They serve their purpose for the delegated country.
But some shill bidding companies simply pump and dump some random .DD(dummy domainers) extension. Obviously we domainers would bite.

The parties that purchased my .AI domains are either Fortune 100 companies, or startups/small companies with at least 25 million usd in funding -

All .AI domains purchased from me, except the 12 sold to the domain investor, are robust websites.

Most companies also applied for trademarks for(domain) AI with USPTO after acquiring the domain(s)

The only company that did not require me to sign an NDA is:

SHERPA.AI

IMO: After .com, the best ROI for repurposed cctlds with key word, at present:

.IO
.AI
