Hello all,

According to you which factors play the most important role in domain sales (Inbound)?

  • Price
  • Marketplace
  • Marketplace exposure
  • Domain landers
  • Payment options (installment or lease-to-own or make an offer)
  • Portfolio size
  • Domain age
  • Domain quality
  • Domain length
  • Domain extension
  • Promotion (Social pages & Ads)
  • Landers with SEO/SERP rank
  • Negotiation
  • Gut feel
  • Patience

Please include other factors that you think are important in domain sales. And if possible explain how they help you to get sales!

Thank you :)

I think domain quality plays the most important role because no one wants to buy crappy domain names.

By the way, you can create a poll for this topic.

It’s becoming clear that Keyword popularity is a big factor.

High search volume keywords drive desirability.

Timing and recent trends play important factor ... For ex Crypto sales are hot now .... Those who have booked and listed crypto over last few years had more success than others .... Many example but the point is timing and recent trends also play important role

Interesting you put Portfolio size as an important factor, it's one that many investors might not take into consideration.
I've got my own but care to share your own reasoning @justsand behind pros or cons on that one?

I have added portfolio size to the list because of this statement "you need to own a minimum of 2000 domains in order to get 1 or 2 inbound sales per month".

Also, some domainers stated in interviews/podcasts that they have XXX - XXXX size portfolio and they are making 2-4 sales(inbound) per month.

IMO, portfolio size is a plus point for inbound sales only if you've quality domains. Otherwise, it's a burden.

I am curious to know your opinion on this @HotKey?

All of the above. The same people could have the exact same portfolio and have wildly different results based on many factors.

Until now I couldn't set the bin price for my domain. But I can see that my domain has potential

I'm bad at selling but good at seeing potential

Market Demand (i.e. Quality of Domain) and Thoughtful Pricing and Interested Party's Funding and the availability of Service-Worthy Alternatives. End of story.

Makes sense for sure; portfolio size and sales frequency are intimately related on an assumption of domain quality.

I was looking at it from a slightly different angle which is why I asked. Thanks for the response. More along the lines of a buyer's reaction to wading through a portfolio site of thousands vs tens or hundreds, and how that might affect their decision-making. Sometimes more options are less beneficial in the end, we want to be able to lock in on something that stands out rather than being lost in the crowd.

I doubt though individuals are running their own site with thousands listed, these are usually spread out around marketplaces. A smaller, personal portfolio size made up of our quality domains might be beneficial for an upkeep and professional perspective. But going back to your frequency of 2-4/month, a tiny personal site vs well-known venue will have an impact especially in sub-par domains. Because of discovery.

Successful domain sales has close to nothing to do with portfolio size because success means a sold record of "sold domains".

If you are only selling 1% of your BIG PORTFOLIO you best be selling domains that pay for ALL those registrations PLUS leaves you with a tidy profit, year after year.

IF you have 10 marketable domains you may still call yourself a domainer AFAIC, a domainer that is smarter than most of us. :-/

i'd say domain Quality.

But as a newcomer like me it's really hard to determine the said quality of a domain. I made the mistake of hand reg my domain names (I have 9, just started) and THEN I learned about aftermarket and such.

Anyway I'm off topic :P

Point is, I thought that any ''good sounding'' domain with ''popular'' keywords would do the trick but in the end , I probably ended up with crappy domains... so, the most important thing is IMO , the hardest for a beginner.

PS: I may be wrong on that too XD
