NamePros member @DirkS has requested that I provide an explanation for why I've registered over 3,600 .online domains in the last six months, so here goes;

First and foremost I'm a visionary. I've started dozens of business in my life. I'm 73 years old, and I started my first business while still in college in 1970. Sure I could just be saying this, but if you have doubts I would strongly suggest that you check me out.

Having learned about this industry just over three years ago I've found the .com extension for most new business names to be both unavailable and unaffordable. I've learned that if I were to start a new business today it's unlikely the name I choose for my business would be available or affordable.

Most important, like zip codes and area codes there are literally hundreds/thousands of alternatives, and .Online just so happens to be one of the alternatives. What initially attracted me to the .Online extension was when NamesCon Online (aka NamesCon.com) made the decision to have Radix (aka Radix.online) be a sponsor. Radix then created the domain NamesCon.online to compliment/match NamesCon.com.

When I realized how the .online extension matched up with names like Reservations.online, Shopping.online, Learning.online and Domains.online, I just knew i was on to something:xf.smile: Note that names like Reservations.com, Shopping.com, Learning.com and Domains.com are not only "unavailable", even if they were available, they'd most likely be "unaffordable"

Ironically about the time I noticed the .online extension, Go Daddy and Radix partnered and made .online domains available for a first time annual registration fee of .99 cents, and an annual re-registration of just 49.99 thereafter.

I've spent over a thousand hours in the last six months buying mostly one and two word .online domains, so if you were to add my time to the approximate $4,200 I've paid Go Daddy, I have over $20,000 invested in my portfolio of 3,634 domains.

My critics will say things like, you'll never be able to afford to renew all your domains at 49.99 each to which I have a twofold answer; #1 i don't need to renew a single domain and #2 whose to say the renewal fee isn't negotiable:xf.rolleyes:....as a businessperson I've learned that pretty much everything is negotiable.

Of importance to me is the fact that "if" my .online domains were .com domains my portfolio would be "valued" at over twenty million dollars. Yes, that's $20,000,000 or 20M:xf.smile:

Now is where the rubber meets the road meaning, how do I plan to sell these domains? I just started listing them with the likes of Go Daddy where my current pricing ranges from a low of $199 to $999 and I'm looking to have an annual renewal of $99.....remember, everything is negotiable.

I plan to experiment with financing, leasing/renting and licensing my domains. I also plan to form a "users group" where end users actually have an interest in promoting the .online extension to the world.

Few domains and especially .online domains will sell themselves:xf.frown: Thus I plan on having an "outbound" sales/marketing team who share my vision to make .online both available and affordable.

Finally, I owe a bit of gratitude to the monopoly Verisign for confirming my suspicions about the nature of the .com beast. While the beast is slowly dying, alternative solutions are ready, willing and able to take over.

Thank you!

ooops Ms. Muse....wrong on both counts:xf.grin:......just had a lawyer/investor invest 20K plus for 20% of my .online portfolio. He's a sports guy, and when he learned GD is asking ten million dollars for the domain LocalSports.com and I own the "Local Sports Online", he decided to risk a few dollars.

Anything else I can aMuse you with Ms. Muse:xf.rolleyes:
"Investor". Lol. Classic Rich...

"Investor". Lol. Classic Rich...

In his defense, for some people 20K is pocket change. They may put it into a share of a domain portfolio or put in to use on a night out at the casino.

On both instances, money that can be written off. Not the traditional investor kind of approach but something you see happening a lot amongst people with newfound wealth.

"Investor". Lol. Classic Rich...

Rich seems to have no actual domain sales.

All he seems to have are mysterious, unseen "investors" making "investments". People are obviously skeptical. The same thing has been claimed several times in the past.

Real sales ability requires being able to sell to random people, not take money from your buddy.

Results > Bullshit.

Well, video is a nice keyword although it would limit the use a bit in my opinion. I actually did find some that would could be a nice fit (depending on a more detailed businessmodel) within the $200-$3K range. Exact matches... All 6K+. That's a bin... Open to negotiate. Just saying.

Rich will probably help a lot of people sell their far superior, reasonably priced .COM with his theoretical "business model" of contacting potential end users and offering a worse option. (y)

If they were smart (or real) they would realize that the take-away from that point is that .com's are the valuable and worthy assets.

God, I really hope this is just another one of those alternate reality pipe dream comments of yours. Please for the love of everything tell me you haven't really roped someone else into this mess.

I have plans to make .online an affordable alternative to .com. Why? Because it is, that's why:xf.smile:
I will not comment about your business plan, by the way acquiring as much .online as you can and trying to resell them will only make .online more expensive for end users. The .online affordable alternative arleady exist and many of them are still waiting to be registered for $0.99.

Just commenting your reasoning, good luck for your business plans :)

A likely scenario. That's why he
should stick to single word.online imo. However, most are long gone or registry premiums.

Videospy.online priced at ('just') $999 doesn't look very appealing when you can get videospyonline in .com at reg fee... Or another one covering the niche in .com within a 1.5K budget.

Thanks....here's one that was "waiting to be registered" that's now off the table;

LocalSports.Online

Note LocalSports.com is "valued" by GD at $13,839....now here's the thriller, when you key LocalSports.com, it leads you to a GD landing page that says:

Need a Price Instantly call; 1 855 646-1390

I doubt you'll believe this, but the owner of LocalSports.com is asking 10M ten million dollars for his/her domain. I about fell out of my seat when I heard the quote.

The rep at GD and I had an interesting conversation about the .online domain i'd just bought for $1 and the 10M equivalent. He agreed that technically there's ZERO difference between the two. Then we went on to talk about how fu*ked up this industry truly is:xf.rolleyes: Bottomline, i see opportunity where most don't.

Finally, i noticed at Namebio today there were a couple of new .online sales;

classrooms.online 1,040 USD 2021-06-16 Private

ubet.online 3,000 USD 2021-06-05 Afternic

Very encouraging:xf.smile: Thanks all for your help and kind words, and especially thanks to Joe Nichols for showing up(y)

Dirk...i don't disagree with you at all about single word .online domains, but many of the two word domains I own are actually better than a lot of my single words. I don't know the exact stats, but when you see sales from the likes of Sedo, Go Daddy, and other brokers, the two word domains seem to out number the one word domains 10 to 1.

Thanks again Dirk....two heads are always better than one and I feel we'd make a good team:xf.wink:

I can't decide whether OP is serious here or he is just joking / trolling.

I think the latter is more likely, but I am not sure.

So he asked a domain name registrar who is selling the .online domains whether .online is any good, and the domain name registrar selling these .online domains told him that yes, .online domains are very good. Therefore .online domains are very valuable.

No please... tell us you are joking here.

NO....did i say the registrar Go Daddy told me .online domains are very good? Please go back and re-read what I said....when "Luke" from GD quoted 10M for LocalSports.com and he learned that I owned the domain LocalSports.Online for $1, the conversation led to just how fu*ked up this industry is:xf.rolleyes:

Sorry if you don't think the domain industry is seriously screwed up. That's my claim and I'm sticking to it:xf.smile:

Thanks....in some circles i'm considered a risk advisor, thus riskadvisor.online, others i'm considered a domain coach online, and yet others a domain advisor online:xf.wink:

One last thing, i've always believed that "passion sells", and while researching passionsells.online i noticed passionsells.com was available. The .com had been registered for well over 20 years just to drop in April. As to whether i'll register both these domains after keying this.....you be the judge.

Good luck to you as well(y)

Thanks Craig. Question? Since all my domains are registered for $1 for a year, should I wait and transfer them close to the time when my year is up? I've not done this before, but is it time consuming and could you do this in bulk? Do you remember what I said about registrations possibly being negotiable? I only share that because I've personally been told by a registry they are. Thanks again.

Well mate, that is up to you when you transfer/renew ;)

I just wanted to make you aware that there is a good option to transfer your best .online names for twelve months for a dollar each.

Unfortunately in my experience with them, you need to transfer each domain by hand and it's a simple but laborious process when talking about dozens if not hundreds of names. Having said that, I'm sure that if you approached them and said that you have XXXX amount of domains to transfer, I would think they would make the effort to help you streamline the process.

If you do, please let me know how you go.

@ThatNameGuy

You have 3600 names and you paid 4200$
For the sake of simplicity.
Given youve got 4000 names and you paid 4000$

Even if you have 1$ renewals

If you price your 4000 names at 20$, you still need to sell 200 names in one year to recoup, which is 5% str, which sounds like a lot.

Why is 5% str a lot at 20$?
Because .online is still an undesirable extension.

Even if you price at 200$. I have a hard time being confident you'll sell 20 names out of 4000.
Because its still an undesirable extension.

All those 2 words, theres .co instead, and sellers do accept 200$ for 2 words. You can even hand register one (or 20) for 20$.

I would advise you stick to .com.

But if you like experiments (why not) and given you can really negotiate $1 renewals, build a portfolio of 1000 strong one word .online's, and try to sell them for 1000$ each. One sale covers the years renewals.

Pregnancydoctors.online and stuff, leave those, even if you price at 20$.

Thats the best advice I can give you, aside from be smart in your experiments, let those be on the side, and consolidate on .com.

For $4000, I would have bought 40 x 100$ .com's instead.
For $1000, 1000 dictionnary .online's priced at $1000 is a fun experiment.

$4000 on 2 words is not.

"Because .online is still an undesirable extension."

lol, that's your OPINION and your opinion ONLY:xf.rolleyes: You saw where I bought the domain PassionSells.com because it was available, however most good .com's simply aren't available. Case in point, 90% of the .online domains I own don't have an equivalent .com that you or I or anyone I know can afford to buy.

Finally, take Casino.online that sold for 200K compared to Casino.com that sold for 5.5M. If my math is correct Casino.com sold for 27.5X more than Casino.online and from a purely technical perspective you could swap extensions, and they will take you to each others website. Maybe you're not buying the logic, but I'm betting many "end users" will be buying it.

StayTuned.Online:xf.wink:

ps. my advice to you, diversify and learn to like like .online....the desirable alternative:xf.smile:

Glad you're back to following me Joe....it gives me an opportunity to show off:xf.smile: Have you made any money since we last talked:xf.rolleyes:

I've made a few shekels since we last spoke....you? As important I registered another dozen domains today after reading Andrew Allemann's blog about Squadhelp and his domain SmartAdvisors.com (listed for different prices at GD and Squadhelp:xf.confused:). Not to be left out someone in my household reg'd SmartAdvisors.online, GlobalAdvisors, LegalAdvisors, LoanAdvisors, MedicalAdvsors, HomeAdvisors and a few more. Then I met a blogger on Andrew's blog who uses the handle "Cannabis Jobs", and I successfully registered CannabisJobs.online. Joe....my advice to you is real simple, ListenUp.online:xf.cool:

Good luck...i really wish you the best at whatever it is you decide to do:xf.grin:

You think? Nothing about my (2) word domains in .online is random:xf.rolleyes:. random is defined; lacking a definite plan, purpose, or pattern.

Much to your chagrin Brad....i have a plan, and there's a motive in my madness:xf.grin: As a domain advisor online maybe i can help you. I'm also a student advisor online:xf.wink:
