Maybe, being closed over the covid hoax had something to do with it.

Membership, not attendance.

It has been a steady decline for decades.

Religious membership is strongly connected to age, with older Americans more likely to belong to a church, synagogue or mosque. Two-thirds of traditionalists, Americans born before 1946, report belonging to a religious institution, compared to 58% of baby boomers, 50% of Generation Xers and 36% of millennials.

I don't know, maybe one of the 50k people that died of COVID in Texas might care? Well, their family or friends, because they are dead after all.

I would prefer they do something actually useful instead of sending "thoughts & prayers".

That's because you haven't taken the time to know what Christianity is about. Christian churches and ministries feed & cloth people, treat their medical problems, educate them, go to places without infrastructure and build water wells, schools, hospitals.

There is a reason religious affiliations have been dropping precipitously in recent years.

Our society is falling apart. Single parent homes are at an all time high and your surprised church membership has dropped.

Well, I don't think an open embrace of someone like Donald Trump helped their credibility much either.

You have a bigoted view of Christians. Most people who voted for Trump held their nose but cheered his policies.

Church Membership Hits All-Time Low in 2020

https://www.usnews.com/news/nationa...ership-hits-all-time-low-in-2020-gallup-finds

A new Gallup poll released Monday found that in 2020, 47% of U.S. adults belonged to a church, synagogue or mosque, falling below 50% for the first time in the 80 years Gallup has measured the topic.

But attendance matters.

People have been dying at a higher rate in closed up states... your "argument" makes no sense

"He (the Chinese guy) also ludicrously claimed that there was more freedom, in terms of speech and allowable beliefs, in communist China than in America."

Well, he has a point there. I don't agree. Yet. But it's not ludicrous.
Do you mean his argument on freedom of speech? Because as far as I know, but I don't have the experience of having been living there, even though you probably can say the N-word, there are many other things you can't openly say or criticize.

Probably a duplicate in this thread:

China launches app for citizens to report anyone who has 'mistaken opinions' or 'denies the excellence of socialist culture' [Daily Mail]
China has launched a new app that will allow citizens to report others who criticise the ruling Chinese Communist Party or question its account of history online.

Released by China's cyber regulator, along with a similar hotline, the app aims to crack down on 'historical nihilists' ahead of the Party's 100th anniversary in July, the regulator said in a statement on Friday.
Netizens in China already face jail time and other legal punishments for posting content that is critical of the county's leadership, policies and history.

Legal amendments released earlier this year stipulate that people who 'insult, slander of infringe upon' the memory of China's national heroes and martyrs face jail time of up to three years.
According to a New York Times report in February, a public spreadsheet detailing speech crimes in China shows over 2,000 times when the Chinese government punished people for what they said online and offline over the past eight years.

All these shootings at the same time? I find it hard to believe. Almost, as if it was planned.

:jawdrop:
In Philadelphia, police are having trouble finding new recruits to join the force, even as officials say the department is severely understaffed.

FOP Lodge #5 President John McNesby says it's kind of like a perfect storm developing.

The eye of the storm revolves around several issues including a dramatic rise in the number of Philadelphia police officers filing for retirement, a diminishing pool of young people who even want to be a big city cop, and the suspension of new officer training because of the pandemic.
