With so many extensions available for as less as 2 dollars hand registration, is the .COM living on borrowed time? In 10-15 years time will .LIFE be the same as .COM in valuation? Or is the .COM living on borrowed time just now...

.COM is the only commercial extension. Most of the ngTLDs are for utilitarian purposes to suplemenet .com. Such as .support, .tech, .forum. But none are meant to completely replace .com. Their purpose is to create a direct link to a specific section or a complemantery location of the main brand. The only exception is ccTLD domains, some of which have found alternative uses to .com. But .com will never be taken over by another extension. Any startup or company using anything other than .com will be viewed as inferior and will have an uphill battle. Unless their customers are local and they are using the right ccTLD.
With .top you do not have these concerns.

And a .top is always the penthouse, no matter where.

Not when it comes to domain investing. These are reported sales in the last year from NameBio.com.

.COM -

118,500
Total Sales

$108,500,000
Dollar Volume

.TOP -

8
Total Sales

$2,111
Dollar Volume

Ouch.

.com will always be king and this won't change any time soon.. no other extension even comes close
Yes, .com will always be king (but it will never be top (since kings are not top in hierarchy)).
.top, on the other hand, will always be top (since top is top) and no other extension even comes close (nor even far).

Stop misleading new (inexperienced) investors. They'll lose money and feel bitter that they can't buy chocolate table ... or a slice of bread? At least, be responsible and promote your fav registry in a different , less harmful way.

Regards

Literally, a .top exists.

but it’s a misnomer

.com is 👑
Ther term top is literally top and thats all what counts, so no misnomer and .com is king, yes.

.com is dead is like saying mercedes is dead.
It's indeed a nonsense to say .com is dead but to compare .com with mercedes is, with all due respect, also nonsense because mercedes is rather top than com.

I don't think any one new gTLD will become a serious competitor to .com.
Maybe not in terms of registration numbers (that's anyhow not my point) but literally .com got topped by .top and since TLDs are generally a literal matter, this can not be undone, .com is (literally) just com. while .top is (literally) top.

.com is the king-- no debate. The others are all imitators.
.com is king, you are right.

But to think .top (or any other TLD) wants to imitate .com (or any other TLD) is the result of a misunderstanding.

Every TLD is (literally) what it is and in case of .top it is top (so literally above the king (- TLD and all other TLDs (because kings are not top in hierarchy))).

Better stop accusing me of misleading "new (inexperienced) investors" / being irresponsible / harmful.

I further do not "promote" any "favorite registry", I share my convictions and I don't care if someone don't agree to it.

What I write is what I found out and whoever does not know that .com is not top learns it now - better late than never.

With top regards.

You have to understand that even in case the registration numbers would be zero, .top is still top.

.top = all time highest (top)
.com = all time king (not top)

It seems that this discussion about .com triggered / involves comparisons to other TLDs and the top TLD in particular.

It is a "heated debate" and everything is ok.

If no one were interested in .top (as you claim) this would not be part of this discussion - but interestingly there are many voices in regards to .com(pared with other TLDs, especially .top).

A discussion about the value of .com will always include comparisons to the value of other TLDs.

I am not trying to promote something dead, I am in interaction on a public forum that allows me to post my opinion in regards to the topic and the topic is about disussing the value of .com and this naturally can and will, as I wrote above, always include comparisons to the value of other TLDs - in my case to the TLD .top because I am convinced that the TLD .top has a higher value than the TLD .com also if you don't want to hear / read this.

Last but not least, I am sure you do not understand the term "spam(ming)".
My individual replies / posts have absolutely nothing to do with spam(ming), I recommend you to read a bit about "spam(ming)" before you use this term again.
