The sale of Metaverse.io for $175,000 has shown that good .io names will sell for good prices.
Plus Park.io reports a lot of big sales and there's often high bidding at their auctions.

It also helps that brandable marketplaces like Squadhelp accept .io names as they realise it's popular alternative with startups.

The next one to watch however is .Ai (and to a lesser extent .Vc and .GG)
Most dictionary words in .io are taken leaving only made up brandable options (which are riskier than if done in .com), so other alternative extensions will be sought out.

I believe .io domains are becoming so popular because they are considered a valid option for a startup. I currently own SmartStore.io and have already received some offers. I do see .io domains as potentially becoming as popular as .org and .net.

I think .io is more popular than .org and .net. It (along with .co) is probably the next best alternative to .com (with .AI, .Vc and GG. not far behind)

.Net and .Org will remain good choices for those rare one word dictionary names.

top 3 big CCTLDs are .CO, .IO and .IN. .IN will probably beat out .IO soon though. So many of you are underestimating .IN, but just keep watching its sales activity.

you probably hold many .IN that why you dream and want .IN to beat .IO

But this is will never happen, because .IN are used most by companies/individual that are based in india, While .IO are used globaly.

I only have a few .in and heavily invested in .io, but there are many indicators to suggest that .in has good broader appeal than people think of it. Only issue is getting hold of quality .in in wholesale. Nobody wants to sell them in wholesale and the few times a good .in goes into a private auction, the bid war is crazier than any .co or .io

If I could get my hands on them, I would buy some

I think .io domains are only valuable if they are tech related (and one word shorts, of course)
the tech industry is flushed with cash and they pay a lot to have the best name and .io is kind of an status domain for the tech geeks. they see .com as inferior domain belonging to boomers so if your intention is to invest in .io, your odds will be better going after tech related domains than anything else, specially since .io isn't cheap to hodl.

the fact that they will eventually go for buying the .com is a whole other subject.
that definitely happens when the company's costumers are regular folks and not other tech businesses. (and also they are going to buy the .com and redirect it to .io in most cases)

Inside Out
Indian ocean (original abbreviation)

What makes .IO domains popular is that despite being a ccTLD, anyone can register a . io domain and they are currently being used by individuals and organizations across the world - unlike .us; .ca, for examples.
