What is a Virtual Asset Service Provider?

A VASP is a crypto-business that conducts any one of the following activities:

  1. Exchange between virtual assets and fiat currencies;
  2. Exchange between one or more forms of virtual assets;
  3. Transfer of virtual assets;
  4. Safekeeping and/or administration of virtual assets or instruments enablingcontrol over virtual assets; and
  5. Participation in and provision of financial services related to an issuer’s offerand/or sale of a virtual asset.

FATFs' definition of a VASP is perhaps the most critical definition in the cryptoverse - whether or not your crypto business is expected to implement a costly risk-based compliance program can hinge on this definition. Much of the "revised" part of the revised guidance lives in the VASP definition section. In fact there are about 12 redlined pages dedicated to the topic.

FATF's recommendations are way more than recommendations - they will quickly become regulatory gospel across the globe. And, the recommendations in the updated guidance are game changers.

I’ll kick things off

You guys like how vasp sound?
for me its not about how it sounds, but how much its likely to be used.
I see it for crypto businesses on the same level as SaaS for software.

which is why I only picked some brandables and domains suitable for review websites and job listings.

VASP sounds a bit awkward, but FATF terminology carries a lot of weight and it's going to cover a huge chunk of the Virtual Asset space. (Stablecoins, Defi, NFT's)

Do you go around posting that on all the niches you’re not interested in?

Yea sometimes, but it doesn't really matter because my opinion is only one and I'm sure you guys are after end users and not domain investors.

According to you guys which are the most valuable keyword combinations (.com) in this space apart from VASP itself?

Like exchange, wallet, fund, finance, crypto or any other?

I'm little bit confused like for example VASP/ services (.com) but its already virtual asset service providers, so isn't it odd to have services again at the last?. Or is it just we have to consider only VASP as a keyword?

As I said earlier in the thread, I see VASP on the same level as SaaS. a descriptive acronym.

so I think you should approach it in a similar way.. rarely you will find a company with SaaS in the title. (getsaasable/com or saasplaza/com or saas-capital/com comes to mind) but its not an entirely fair comparison because by the time SaaS became a thing most software businesses had already matured fully under their respective brands. the same can not be said about crypto space as its still in its infancy.

but I still personally prefer to only reg domains I can see getting used for SEO value (brandable names and names suitable for review websites comparing VASP services and companies etc. or services that would fall under the description of VASP and maybe some regional specific domains)

so in my opinion, going after the acronym and registering two word domains willy-nilly is a dead-end path.

just my two cents of course.. I'm a beginner in this field by all means (started two months ago! lol)

Just applied to become a registrar for the Handshake TLD;

.VASP

Every crypto business on the planet will have to adhere to VASP regulations.

Goal = Only officially regulated crypto businesses will qualify to register a .VASP domain.

It will become THE Global mark of trust.

can you share more info on that? like how much it cost you to become q registrar for handshake domains? what are the requirements and all that..
I want to look into it for my own field of work to see if I can do something similar to what you have done haha

Thank you my friend.

I actually got in late. some other guys in this thread have picked better names than me. but hopefully the VASP thing will blow up and we all get to make some money off of it.
