Hi community,

I was randomly jumping on some websites and realize that Merriam-Webster.com still use hyphens. It seems they acquired MerriamWebster.com yet they prefer to stay on Merriam-Webster.com

What is your conclusion for this ? If you start your business with a domain name with hyphen, are you going to upgrade it with no hyphen when it become very popular, or live it as it is ?

Look forward for your comments.

Best,
Olcayto

Because that is the company name: Merriam-Webster, Inc

Same reason Coca-Cola still use the hyphenated domain name.

For brand reasons. If they use MerriamWebster, it would probably confuse some people and it's also unbecoming for a education-related website if they don't follow language or grammar rules.

Easier to signify two people ( last names ). No dash could mean one person ( first+last name )
