What changes would you like to see to the TOS, Policies, and Procedures in the domain Industry that affect you as a domainer, client, member, or customer.

In lieu of the debacle that has taken place when some very valuable domain names got locked supposedly without a court order at one of the major Registrars, the domaining community needs to come together and demand that ICANN implement an immediate review of all the abuses and overreach that are currently being taken place at different Registrars, the Registry, and even ICANN itself.

There should be a set of Uniform Standards and Policies in regards to the Registrants’ Rights that can guarantee that everyone’s rights are protected the same regardless of which Registrar the domains are at.

If you have been done wrong somehow or if you are aware of certain issues and problems that have been ignored in the domain Industry here is your chance to bring your concerns to everyone’s attention.

Thread rules:
Everyone is invited to participate as long as things are kept on topic and are on the constructive, professional, and respectful side. You are allowed to criticize and express your dissatisfaction with the current policies and procedures and the way that things are being run and handled in the domain Industry, but you are not allowed to attack, belittle, or otherwise be disrespectful to any member, person, or entity. No foul or derogatory language is allowed.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
A few things to think about:

- Registrants Rights should be the same across all Registrars and no domain name should be locked without a proper court order from an applicable jurisdiction or an official request by the proper law enforcement agencies.

- There should be a uniform policy at all Registrars regarding the Renewal, Expiration, Redemption, and Deletion of domain names.

- There should not be any restrictions put on the domain names with the intent to limit or interfere with the right of ownership of the Registrant without a court order.

- No hidden or secret latches should be allowed to be put on the domain names in the back end operations of the Registrar or Registry.

Registrar transfers should become free (without domain renewal). Like in .co.uk for example...

@Paul Nicks

Paul, while I have been trying to be a peacemaker and bring some uniformity to the domain Industry as far as Registrants Rights I now am experiencing an unusual situation with one of my own domain names at Godaddy myself.

I hand registered and paid for the four domain names listed below on March 1st 2021 :

RoverFeed.com
ShopAllWeb.com
5gHomeAutomation.com

and

WorkingAtHomeOpportunities.com

The ICANN whois shows that all these four domain names were registered on:
  • Created: 2021-03-01 08:05:15 UTC
And that Is because I had all four domains on the same order and I paid for them all at the same time.

The problem that I have is that the domain name WorkingAtHomeOpportunities.com was showing as pending registration in my account, but since then has been removed out of my account and I received an email today that said there had been a refund issued for it already.

Originally I spoke to GoDaddy's support through chat on March 4th 2021 and were told that the domain name WorkingAtHomeOpportunities.com had to be transferred to my account and that I needed to wait a few days for that to take place which I found it very strange as I had hand registered this domain name after I found it as being unregistered when I checked through Whois.

I spoke to GoDaddy's support through chat again today and were told that someone else has managed to register the domain name WorkingAtHomeOpportunities.com at the exact same time that I had hand registered and paid for it (that is to the second on 2021-03-01 08:05:15 UTC) and that this domain was no longer mine.

I find this to be very strange and would like an explanation from you as to what has happened to my domain name.

Below is what I was told by your support department today when I asked how could have someone else managed to register the domain name WorkingAtHomeOpportunities.com at the exact same time that I did (to the second) on 2021-03-01 08:05:15 UTC

I am very disappointed about what has taken place here. I registered the domain name WorkingAtHomeOpportunities.com because I found it to be useful for providing assistance to all the good and hardworking people who have lost their jobs during the Pandemic.

I like to get my domain ASAP

The odds of that seems highly unlikely.

Brad

I found this domain to be available through ICANN Whois a few weeks ago, but I waited till the first of the month to register it along with the other 3 domains that were on the same order.

I keep a list of a few hundred domains that I have found to be available which I use to hand register domains from occasionally.

All I know is that If I had used any other Registrar to register this domain it would have been mine already.

There shouldn't be any difference which Registrar we use to register a domain that we have found to be available, right? @Joe Styler

Needless to say I consider Godaddy as one of my favorite Registrars which I have been using for a very long time and I don't believe that it's fair for me to lose a domain name that I spent a lot of time searching for and finding as being available.

I concur to shenanigans going on. There was a thread about the new .makeup extension. I checked a few then typed waterproof .makeup and it showed it to be available although not of great value. Before you could blink a heavily mascara'd false eyelash it was now showing as taken at my preferred registry. 20-30 seconds to switch between one screen tab to another.

Coincidence. I don't think so. They are watching .makeup.

I'm glad I will eventually be reserving the right to .breakup with them and find me an honest, reliable replacement.

"No match for "WorkingAtHomeOpportunities.com" in the registrar database"
Or. in other words, the domain is not attached to any godaddy account. So it appears that GD system regged it, for you, but failed to add to your account. Online chat in their wisdom decided that somebody else registered it...

So if I had registered this domain at any other Registrar it would have been mine now,

But since I decided to register it at one of my favorite Registrars where I have had most of my domains for so long it has to be sniped away from me by the system and given to someone else?

Why is @Joe Styler not responding to this issue here

For me to have problems getting a domain name that I had thought of myself and found to have been available through whois is really a fundamental issue as far as not having a unified and standard playing field for the Registrants when it comes to all the different Registrars.

I hand registered ShopAllWeb.com on the same order and at the same time:

Every domainer here knows the pain of losing a domain name unfairly, it doesn't matter if its a million dollar domain or an $8 dollar one.

This situation is puting undue stress on me which is not good for me at my age and specially with my ongoing heart condition,

The fact that our resident Godaddy Reps are not responding to my concerns here is making it even more stressful for me,

I have been a longtime customer at Godaddy and I don't deserve to be neglected like this.

Hi

i got a suggestion

for one, the title should be changed
as you shouldn't be trying to demand anything and then expect what you are now expecting in this thread.

tagging reps, then questioning why they don't respond, to a hand-reg issue, is like trying to pile on more :poop: to an existing and what must be, a complicated issue for them, as is

why not let one thing get some clarity, first
or at least contact gd cs directly via the website?

i was with you on trying to draw up some mutual concerns of protection for domain registrants,
but not this.

i'm not a gd fan,
but those guys have put in the work, and deserve more respect and patience than they are getting now, so ease-up.

imo....

@oldtimer - In my early days with GD, ~20 years ago, I was able to successfully resolve issues like the one you are experiencing, by emailing president @ godaddy or something similar. No, it was not Bob Parsons responding. But somebody from his office did... and there were a lot of issues, such as domain sold by myself - pushed to the buyer - all closed - found it being back in my account after some months, no notifications or anything. Or similar issues, where the customers service just copypasted incorrect answers. Now it is easier with GD account rep., but he also is not a wizard, and seems to be very busy (his response time sometimes is far from optimal)...
On thread subject: I'd suggest that GoDaddy, the largest registrar, should impelment normal email support WITH trackable / visible tickets.

I already did contact Godaddy and they told me that this domain name has already been refunded,

This is not about the $8 fee, this is about having an explanation as to what has happened here and why,

This situation although only concerns a hand registered domain in my account, but it also brings out a bigger issue here as to why such things have to happen in the first place,

I believe that this situation is directly related to all the discussions that we have been having around Registrants Rights and being treated the same way no matter where we keep or register domain names.

I know that they are busy so I'll wait to get a response from the Reps here, but they should address this issue eventually.

Thanks for understanding

oldtimer....what is referred to as the "secondary" or "aftermarket" of the domain industry is just as screwed up as when I arrived on the scene in November of 2017. Verisign (symbol VRSN), the overseer and sole source distributors of .com wrote a scathing hit piece about the secondary market in November 2018 that got the attention of domain investors worldwide. Anyone remember this blog post from Domain Name Wire?

"Holy sh!t…Verisign just called out “Domain Scalpers” and its biggest customers"
Well fellow domainers, the "secondary market" led by the likes of Go Daddy, Uniregistry, TurnCommerce, HugeDomains etc. were able to successfully put out the fire started by Verisign by letting them know they were cutting off the hand that feeds them. How so? Over 50% of the .com domains registered (millions) are done so by domain investors to the detriment of business consumers everywhere.

I've had several personal experiences involving different registrars/registries that clearly identifies the greed associated with the entire industry, and I'm actively and aggressively doing something about it. As for Verisign and Go Daddy.....the bigger they are, the harder they fall.

In addition, I'm positioning my domain portfolio that when the sh!t hits the fan this time, I'll be fine regardless of the outcome.

Stay tuned!

Paul....you guys have a lot bigger problems than this, and some of it has to do with yours truly, and other domainers getting three different quotes for a single domain ranging from $2,295 to $20,000 within 24 hours, and this is not an anomaly. In addition, the left hand Afternic/Uniregistry, and the right Go Daddy don't know what they're doing, PERIOD!

Hello @oldtimer I took a look at this and there was an error on the back end. The name was registered when you registered it with us but there was something broken on the back end specific to an old transfer request for this name that got stuck in our back end so a part of our system thought we were trying to transfer in this domain and another part thought you were registering it and when they met things broke. I went in and fixed the error with the broken transfer that was stuck yesterday then this morning I reconciled things so that your registration should now pop back into your account. There should be no incorrect conflict on the back end stopping it. The domain was always in your account technically but on the back end in an incorrect status which means you couldn't see it there in the list. It's updated now and working correctly. I hope this helps explain things and I apologize for your aggravation and the wrong info you received from support. Try to give them a bit of grace because this was an unusual situation, very abnormal and depending on how they looked into it it could very well appear to have been "registered" by someone else because of the issue. Thanks for continuing to push this for a resolution and again my apologies. You can of course keep the refund for the domain for your inconvenience.

Joe, thanks for the explanation,

I am already beginning to have more faith in the new and improved Godaddy now that you took the time to fix this problem.

Let's hope that everyone else will get the same level of care and attention that we see here.

Thanks again, keep up the good work.
