domains There can be many reasons that name you want to see developed is not developed

One thing I get all the time in emails and sometimes in phone calls, is outrage that a domain name sale was announced and that domain name is not developed. This is kind of what brought about the Offthehandle/Kate Buckley debacle. (Offthehandle has not been heard from since he was doxxed on Twitter). Over the […]

Pretty much it's a novelty vs practicality thing when buying domains.

Wait until these people find out that there are tech companies that raised over 15 million and never built anything. Or that someone already gave an app developer 500k and they still have nothing to show for it.

People new to domaining and development need to know this:

When a person buys a domain for a high price its rarely to redirect to an existing site or to build a 5 page website with some information about their dog. It's usually being purchased because they have a major idea that will require development.

For every one web project that you see developed, there are probably hundreds that have been in development for many years, many developers already came and went, owner lost interest, developers were incompetent, bugs, owner can't make up their mind if the logo should be grey or more blue, he things grey is best, his wife things blue but his brother that never did anything in life says that everyone he talks to says it should be pink like a flamingo.

In real estate you have people buying land all the time for amounts way above the going price. Then it sits for many years because the owner can't decide what to do or needs a lot more money to develop than he though.

The other thing people must know is that amounts of money spent is all relevant to the person buying something. Do you know there are people that purchase condos in NY, London, CA for 10+ million and show up there maybe for two weeks a year?

Do you know that someone purchased a home for 320 million and never showed up since? Was that a fake sale? Who would do that? Well, the crown prince of SA https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-42393148

As domainers we must stop thinking the whole world is a bunch of peasants and cheap fools. The fact that you can't get most domainers to pay $0.0001 to access data that will save them a lot of time, does not mean the whole world operates like this.

You have people becoming incredibly wealthy very fast now, 100k to them is like 10 dollars to you. If you price your (quality) names for peasants you will remain a peasant.

Do you know there are hotels that are booked up that charge 3k a night? Do you know some people fly on private Jets from NY to London once a month and spend 70k each time?

Price your quality domains for the wealthy companies / people and wait. There are many of them out there, and obviously if you list things at 10k you will not sell it for 100k.

There are entire industries that cater to people with a lot of money. Imagine if they all had domainer brains and thought that nobody would spend 5k on a bottle of champagne to gain access to a VIP area or 40k a night to stay in a "presidential" suit. Imagine if the art world thought nobody would spend more than 500 on a painting, when in fact there are bidding wars going on for 50 million dollars paintings all the time.

The current mindset I see many here have is nothing but poison to your wealth. If you have the goods have the patience and price your name for the people that money is not an issue, not for the people that will spend a week trying to find a domain registration coupon code.

I agree 100% but do think making use of the word peasants to refer to common people is degrading.

I think the word Dutch Pirates is degrading to a lot of people. I feel using that term is insensitive, stereotyping, offensive and highly abusive. You see how that works? Everything is degrading to someone. Even automation is something that angers many people, should we just delete our names? After all, imagine how "degrading" it must be for people to know their jobs will be automated soon by some cheap script purchased for 5 dollars?

Thank You
A Highly Offended Peasant.

This is probably the best advice for anyone that has a great domain...you must be prepared to sit and wait for the right buyer.

Just yesterday, I had to increase the final price for a project by $1,000...the customer said 'that's fine'. I started to go into why the increase was needed and the person said 'thanks, but don't bother...that amount is pocket change and I know you would not increase the final cost unless it is necessary'.

The planet is full of people with deep pockets...it can be hard for those of us that do not have such pockets to remember that fact. So when you have a physical or digital property of great value, holding on to it will pay off in time.

@AEProgram It took 3 minutes to read what you've wrote. And, it really makes sense. Glad I not skipped

I certainly see how it works but that's pure nonsense. I get your point but there's a big difference in referring to people as peasants and using something/brands/tech that 'might' offend someone. By speaking of peasants, you put them below yourself/others, 99% of the time used in a disrespectful manner. If you don't see it that way, all cool.

Just wanted to point it out as your observation is spot on but I feel the poor (imo) choice of words takes away from your message.

Thank you from another, not really offended, peasant.

Spare me the fake virtue signaling Facebook level garbage outrage please. Please leave that junk on those platform, lets keep the snowflake mode sensitivity and concerns about nothing off this forum. And no, there is no difference, people get outraged equally on things you think they shouldn't. You overreacted like a clown on my choice of words and I personally don't care to play along. Again, I suggest you cry on Facebook about this not here. We can't destroy every area of communications online with this endless outrage over everything.

Sorry if you feel attacked man. I'm not outraged at all. I don't even think I've even said anything to suggest so. Had I known it'd upset you...

I'm not sensitive about this stuff personally. I just spoke my mind on some wording I found to be unfitting for an otherwise great post by a knowledgeable member. If this triggered you, no offence.

Lol, calling anything addressing inappropriate wording virtue signalling is... so... sigh. Lets say you mentioned Facebook :) But all good! I get it.

Anyways, glad you're not offended. It's so easy to get heated up when you're not debating face to face.

Lets put this to a rest. We've both said what we thought was needed to be said. We disagree on things, so what? That's a healthy thing. Finding common ground is cool and dandy but it's just as important to know where our views and understandings are in the opposite side of the spectrum.

Main factor is not only their budget but how they valuate your domain in their mind...
Some of them even trust in Estibot...

From my experience in most cases I don't recommend BIN-model for high sales...
Proper negotiations are the key for them.

Proper negotiations are the key for them.
As for top quality domain names, a displayed price + an option to negotiate is the right combination.

There seems to be a disconnect between the theme of the comments and the article of the thread?:xf.eek:
You make a good point in the article @equity78 that there are many valid reasons why good domain names do not get used for some time, and that it is totally within the owner's right to do nothing with the name.
Thanks for article, which had some really interesting unused domain examples in it.
