Update:

To be fair to everyone involved, this thread has been reopened and will be deleted in ~72 hours from this post.

This will give everyone an opportunity to write their piece on the matter and then move on without (or with less) contention.

We hope that helps.

Everyone please note SERIOUS CHANGE OF POLICY BY NAMEPROS.

Namepros does not delete threads, for good reason. I have never seen one deleted.

Allowing thread deletion has really serious implications, this needs to be clearly announced and the implications discussed.

There are also many crooked operators who would love to carry out thread deletions.

if both parties want the thread deleted it isn’t our business. This thread is also reputation destroying (potentially) with his business name in the title intentionally . Libel is one of the limits of free speech.

A thread can be moved to a private area of the forum where Google can't find it.

As said, Namepros does not allow thread deletion. There have been many requests and even some pressure for this before and it has not happened. It has dangerous implications.

Namepros will have to explain the change of policy.

There have been threads before on NP discussing thread deletion or retro-active editing or deletion of posts, and the answer from NP has always been no.

I agree there have been some very bad thread titles where some impatient person who is unhappy with some small thing thing at a company starts screaming fraud, but usually those problems can be addressed by editing the thread title. The threads don't get deleted.

Libel is a matter for the courts, and Namepros can restrict or ban members who are making libelous posts.

Namepros will have to explain the change of policy.

Nothing is ever deleted, the feature is called soft delete on other forum software.
So members do not see it but mods or admins do.

Technically if there is ever a legal issue namepros will have a copy of the topic, same goes with anything edited or deleted, a copy sits there for the mods and they can look at the edit history. Forum software is very facebook like nowadays and nothing ever truly goes away.

So when namepros says deleted, this topic will go away from public and google view.

That is all

Thank you for the general info about how forum software works in your experience.

Do you work for or represent Namepros? If what you are saying is not their official response, then as informative as it is, as said Namepros really need to come here and explain the change of policy. I have never seen a thread deleted here in the sense of making it invisible to members, whether or not it is invisibly archived, aside from obvious spam and duplicate threads. And I have seen many demands for thread deletion and discussions of the policy and Namepros has always said no to thread deletion.

There are some threads on here which, if deleted, would make various scams and scammers much more able to rip off new victims. And the scammers would love to have them deleted.

Knowing a thread cannot be deleted is also in some senses a deterrent to posting things that should not be posted.

Hello,

Our policies have not changed, but allow us to clarify.

This, or similar, has been in our Terms of Service for as long as we can remember, which can be confirmed on archive websites:
We reserve the rights to remove or modify any Content submitted for any reason without explanation. Requests for Content to be removed or modified will be undertaken only at Our sole discretion.

We understand why you may think the policy has changed, though, because we almost never delete threads. Even when people show up at our doors, threaten us, call us screaming, file frivolous lawsuits, and undertake other malicious acts against us with the intention of pressuring us into deleting something, we do not. We will not delete anything for those reasons, but we will delete content under specific circumstances (e.g., rule violations).

As said, Namepros does not allow thread deletion. There have been many requests and even some pressure for this before and it has not happened. It has dangerous implications.
To clarify, moderators cannot delete threads; we can only delete posts. Moderators used to be able to delete threads a few years ago, but that permission was removed.

For a thread to be deleted now, a moderator must reach out to an administrator and explain why we believe it is in the best interest of the community (and only the community) for it to be deleted. That's what happened here.

But we have deleted threads over the years, and we continue to do so when we feel it is appropriate.

If an older thread hasn't been deleted yet, it's highly unlikely it will be.

Our forum software has both hard delete and soft delete. We have used both, but typically, we prefer soft delete for investigations and legal purposes.

We hope that helps.

Please explain why a thread like this would require deletion.

Time and time again, Epik.com finds themselves on the defense in one form or another. At this point, info about the biz and how they operate should be public knowledge.

Let’s not forget who created this thread. Now there’s remorse and they want it deleted? Absolutely ridiculous.

Please explain why a thread like this would require deletion.
It's not required; it was decided independently of any requests:
We don't believe this thread has evolved into a resource that is healthy for the community.

We simply want to discourage these types of contentious threads on NamePros. There are other venues for them to take place, and we don't think NamePros is the best place for them.

That said, there are some contentious threads that may be in the best interest of the community to not delete (and we haven't deleted those), but we don't feel this is one of them.

Totally agreed. NamePros is for everything DOMAIN related, and especially transactions of domains related. Oh wait....

Both people above are correct.

A fair domaining forum should be the home of "everything" domaining related - the good, the bad, the ugly. The OP is an adult and most likely knew the outcome of this silly thread is he started it. Why do you mods feel the need to bend over everytime you are asked to by some "superstars" around?

We don't; they all can affirm that, including those involved in the thread.

A fair domaining forum should be the home of "everything" domaining related - the good, the bad, the ugly.
NamePros, historically, has been very tolerant of that, but a professional board with less unnecessary hostility ("ugly," as you put it) is the direction we've been working toward for many years. Little by little, we hope to achieve it.
