I went through Name bio today and started researching on long tail keyword domains and few weird domains that I won't buy for a penny. But end users bought them for 1000's.

Some of these domains and many more recorded on Name bio:

Long Tail:

hormonereplacementtherapy.com $ 42,000
reversemortgagecalculator.com $ 40,000
businessprocessmanagement.com $ 33,250
certifiedpublicaccountant.com $ 32,450

Weird:

private-krankenversicherungen.net (I think it's German) $ 13,355
privatestudentloanconsolidation.com $ 11,495
friedrichchristianflick-collection.com $ 10,000

Do these domain investors had great marketing potential or outreach? Are we missing something?

Should we all list our domains for higher price, why the industry is so weird, why don't we have a market price for each domain?

Interesting thanks for sharing.

How many of these type of names were registered in the past 20 years and nobody was able to sell them? 25 million names? 50 million names?

I think it's best to stick with the type of names that have a better chance of selling.

I've heard of domain sales being used to launder the black money. This probably seems like a similar case.

You're absolutely right, my new strategy is to only buy domains which are valued $4k or more by Godaddy.

I think you're right, you never know what's going on, under the hood. Mostly we see, what people want us to see.

I believe some of these are legitimate sales based on the strength of their keywords,

If you do google search in quotation and with spaces in between the words for the first four long tail examples that you had mentioned you will see that they have thousands or even millions of search results which makes them valuable as domains in .com

I don't recommend registering just any long tail domain, but some could be valuable if they are popular business terms and phrases.

IMO

That is my vote too.
If you read the name, it's abjectly the same how most of Google users search the topics. They are Exact Match Domains and rank high in search results, which means more business.
So probably no one would think of them as investment, like to buy and keep for sometime but someone who would like to encash the keywords in form of a website would be interested and would be ready to pay a good amount.
My though... Nothing to challenge. :xf.smile:

krankenversicherungen = Health Insurance!

Health Insurance is obviously a very popular and valuable keyword,

For those who don't know how good a keyword is:

There are keyword tools that can tell you how popular a keyword is and how many times it is searched for by people each month, WordTracker.com lets you do a few free searches, you can also use Google Keyword Planner which I believe you have to log in to use, you can do a search on google for Keyword Search or Popularity Tool to find more websites.

So you need to find out:

How many Exact search results there are for a keyword or phrase which you can find out by doing a search with quotation and spaces in between words on google. (if you don't see the search result number on your smartphone then choose Desktop Site in the settings for the browser on your phone.)

and

How many times a keyword or phrase has been searched for by people in the past month which you can find out by using a keyword search or popularity tool like Google Keyword Planner or Word Tracker.

(make sure to select Exact in the settings regardless of which website you use).

I'm not sure about businessprocessmanagement.com, but some of the others seem like they could be highly sought-after names and worth those prices. Hormone replacement therapy for example is the exact phrase you'd need to search for a class of medications that basically keep the tissues of your body from breaking down.
