The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
You don't get rich flipping domains unless you start with a large budget, especially in 2020.

There is simply no substitution for time when it comes to finding quality buyers for domains.

thank you for replying.

May I know what is the reason why so many people are still in this? Is it a form of hobby?

What is the motivation behind:xf.smile:

Probably unrealistic expectations more than anything else.

Someone, feel free to burst my bubble if i am being unrealistic.

I am still living in the era where i hope that i can register a domain or maybe buy a domain for cheap and wait 10 years to resell it in for $100k.

Am I dreaming?:-P:xf.smile:

Maybe not a 100k but if you can get in early enough (right a the beginning, pre trend) on a new / emerging technology, product or category before other people then you can possibly register some quality domains that could go for mid/high x,xxx - xx,xxx

Then it is a case of holding, hoping your domain catches the eye of end users and playing the waiting the game - which could be a while

So if you hold multiple quality domains in multiple categories and are extremely patient in the long term you could get close to or go in to the xxx,xxx range - maybe.......maybe not though

depends how big your Jolly Rodgers are, how much faith you have in your definition of quality and whether the Tech, Product or category takes off......

Only the ones that can spot the bargains to resell they barely ever ask advice or delay decisions. I was emailed this week from someone looking for a broker with 100 names that i wouldn't renew.
The email explained he could come up with same quality and numbers each week. Plenty of deluded domainers here that think this is going to be easy.

You can refine your quesiton. Can one be rich by virtue of one's name(s)?

Yes you can, i still believe, if they buy cars for huge amounts of dollars why not for a very good brandable unique .com domain ...

Yes you can become rich if you get lucky and hold the right domain. You can go broke easier if you spend all your money in domains that nobody wants.

Probably less than 5% of the total domainers. In every industry there is always that less than 5%. In Youtube about 3 to 5% are earning in 5 to 6 digits a month. Everywhere I believe it's the same numbers. In politics, leftists call them the few 2%, while the rest they label as 98%.

Pareto's Principal springs to mind......also called the 80/20 rule

I started with domaining in 2015.
I mostly used to handreg, then I began to buy expired domains.
After 3 years of domaining 2015-2018, telling the truth I got more than wasted.
Ok, not a big amount, but at least 1k for sure. But 1k roi in 3 years was not ok for me, so I started to generate more ideas.
I still handreg and sometimes buy expired domains, but now I focus in building wp sites and get income from adsense and traffic.
For me it became a safe way to get high xxxx monthly income.

The internet is moving to blockchain. Hopefully that means all IP will not become obsolete.

The .crypto and .eth and .zil are some domiains with over 30,000 websites on blockchain now.

Hopefully ICANN will shift it's operations to a test environment, then live environment.

Australia's CHESS clearing house has already moved all post trade exchange transactions onto a tested and now live blockchain environment.
So if the clearing house in Australia is changing, and banks are now offering 1-3 day bank guarantees (used to take a month) all due to DLT/Blockchain, and they started issuing bonds on blockchain (capital and money market securities are moving to blockchain.) Then I see it coming quick.

The whole blockckchain domain gimmick is strange when you think about it. Their value proposition was that their domains are on blockchain... Well, ICANN will probably make sure the .com and all websites off blockchain, move onto it when the technology costs afford them to do so.
