Here is a great example, issued from a generic email address, and in usual GoDaddy etiquette, lacking even the courtesy of a contact name or a signature for such an important landmark event. This is how they notify Epik – two hours after the election was called for Joe Biden – that they will be terminating fast transfer inclusions over Afternic for any of Epik’s current and future registrar customers. Can you say anticompetitive behavior from a group in massive need of antitrust oversight as a monopoly? Epik can, and it is added to a rapidly growing list of unthinkable market behaviors that will be accounted for.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Both at the same time...that confirms it then 🙂

Just got the below email from Afternic...

LOL, you are quicker than I...

It sure is nice they decided to let me (us) know...it warms the cockles of my heart that someone was able to work me (us) in to their busy schedule. WTF ever.

Also just got it from Afternic

Dear Abdullah ,

We are contacting you because according to our records one or more of the domain names in your Afternic account are registered with Epik. Please be aware that starting January 5, 2021, Epik will no longer participate in the Afternic Fast Transfer program.

What does this mean for you:

  • Domain(s) registered at Epik will no longer be eligible to opt in to Afternic’s Fast Transfer program
  • Existing domain(s) opted in to Fast Transfer through Epik will remain available for sale in your Afternic account but will be opted out of Fast Transfer
If you have any questions please email [email protected].

Best regards,
The Afternic Team

I received an email too, I only have a very few domains at Epik. But I can imagine how bad it is for those who have most of their domains with Epik. They shouldn't have removed fast transfer status for the already listed one?

No. I am going to wait for the email from epik, explaining things.
Just seems strange to be removed from fast transfer only. Me thinks there is so much more than meats the eye here. And if anyone can take @Intelliname post and condense it into one sentence that be appreciated

For anyone looking to transfer, here's a list of registrars who are in the FT network:
https://www.afternic.com/domain-reseller-network

Again, the FT network gives domains about 35% more visibility and Epik will be removed from the network on January 5.

quick question: with the acquisition of uniregistry and the recent announcement that all uni names would be available across premium networks, https://uniregistry.com/blog/post/afternic-syndication-pricing-updates (though perhaps not quite as many as the fast transfer networks, yet) and with further integrations expected, will this loss of afternic fast-transfer mean anything a year from now?

Basically: we're being deplatformed by the big tech companies.

I suppose removing Fast Transfer removes any % fee obligations from Godaddy to Epik.....dont know if they get any from a regular transfer from Afternic to Epik though

That's a list with the registrars where your domain will be visible, not registrars to use when you want to be in the network. Afternic says 35% more visibility, but most of my domains sold through them are sales made through godaddy( your domains will be listed through godaddy by a simple listing, not necessary FT). Also, just double checked, if I'm not mistaken, the next 10 registrars by market share are not in the FT network, so if they can survive, everybody can. Also, with $8,49, I don't think that epik was counting to make a profit from domainers, the big profit is coming from end users, paying $35 for a renewals, paying hosting and building websites, mostly they used us to gain some market share.

If a registrar is visible in the network, that means it's a participating registrar.

[update: this is not necessarily true. Boker was right that some participating registrars only show domains in the network but can't add domains from their own registrar]

just double checked, if I'm not mistaken, the next 10 registrars by market share are not in the FT network

From https://www.afternic.com/domain-reseller-network:

Domain names get exposure through the Standard Network resellers, plus promotion on 8 of the top 10 domain registrars in the world. This amounts to over 75 million monthly search queries from the largest domain reseller network in the world.

Fast-transfer domains fetch higher prices because of the buyer reach and the buyer can take control of them immediately after purchase.

Looks like @Epik.com is paying the price for free speech.

Regardless of who is right or wrong, I can't see using Epik if this sort of thing keeps happening.

Fast transfer vs non fast transfer only exposes the names to about a third more users. I do not want to mention names as a couple of them are active here, but they are not necessarily 'big' players.

It just means a little more effort for a buyer, but if the name is good or great, the buyer wont care.

Not a big deal in the scheme of things...I did well before fast transfer and I will do well after. Just a pain in the arse. At least they were locked into a 60 day notice to give us time to make adjustments.

I'm using at least 10 registrars from that list and I can assure you that your domains willnot be eligible to be listed in the FT network. Also, they say 75 million queries, but that phrase is there for at least 5 years, from when I've started, so looks like at afternic everything is outdated. Even, if we are talking about 75 million serach queries, most of them probably are from domainers, individuals, small shops and so on, which will never pay the end user prices. When was the last time when you have sold a domain at end user price through network solutions, tierra, united domains, amen and so on. For example, probably at least 100k or more search queries are made by me, though bulk searches, so that should mean something.

Which registrars are your referring to?

All I know is that if I was a registrar, I would offer super cheap .COM transfers. But only for those moving domains away from Epik. I'm looking at you Dynadot. :xf.wink::-P

Also worthwhile to note that fast transfer at Afternic only applies to the main legacy TLDs and a couple of others including .co, only if you have buy-it-now priced, are not within first 60 or last 30 days of registration, and have opted in. Nevertheless definitely being part of both Sedo and Afternic networks was an advantage, soon to be gone.

So Sedo have many of the same registrars in their MLS network, but not GoDaddy. If separately I list names through GoDaddy auctions (but as fixed price) would that get me listing on GoDaddy registrar channel, even though name at Epik? Probably an elementary question, but I have not used GD auctions much yet.
