Here is a great example, issued from a generic email address, and in usual GoDaddy etiquette, lacking even the courtesy of a contact name or a signature for such an important landmark event. This is how they notify Epik – two hours after the election was called for Joe Biden – that they will be terminating fast transfer inclusions over Afternic for any of Epik’s current and future registrar customers. Can you say anticompetitive behavior from a group in massive need of antitrust oversight as a monopoly? Epik can, and it is added to a rapidly growing list of unthinkable market behaviors that will be accounted for.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I tend to agree with Epik that this boils down to the big picture of big tech censorship that has been progressively amplifying over the last four years. First paypal, then godaddy. I hope visa / mastercard aren't next, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I'll stick with Epik. I've been decreasing use of Godaddy services for over a year now due to their high fees and the poor customer service I've experienced.

The loss of Afternic is unfortunate but Epik's response:

Is in itself enough to justify the loss of Afternic and it discourages me from doing further business with the company.

The letter is loaded with irrational, inflammatory rhetoric and contains a great deal of conjecture and some flat out lies.

Epik continues to be its own worst enemy. The registrar is running itself into the ground with these regular public tantrums.

Please, @epik : Grow up. Exercise some self-control and conduct yourself with integrity and professionalism.

That's the problem lately, from all participants we need to know the reason why. Transparency. Like @bmugford mentioned no mention of any political party or world figure.

99% of Domain investors don't care they care about their business getting messed with.

I like Epik MUCH better than GoDaddy. Frankly, I see it as pathetic what GoDaddy/Afternic is doing to Epik. Some people say that Rob needs to stay silent. Well, evidently GoDaddy needs to quit throwing rocks too. GoDaddy is attempting to silence a smaller company.

Maybe you should listen to the suggestion Equity78 made

I have never understood the bringing in politics or other nonsense. Stick to the facts about your business. Because that's what customers care about, 99% don't want to hear anyone's politics.

I would like to add that international users generally have no idea what is going on politically.

We don't know and generally don't want to get tied up in diverse and partisan national politics.

Sort your own issues out internally and don't drag everyone outside into the mess.

Nevertheless politics is what drives the economy

Economics drives political and government policy in most countries.
Not the other way around.

I'm sorry that it is not fair, but it is what it is.

Anyway, this is way off topic and the discussion serves no purpose in this thread.

Laws of the domainer's registrar
#1 don't mess with your customer's sell through rate
#2 don't mess with payment options

PR band aids won't save epik.
You'll need a real plan.
Like 1$ .com's.
if you intend to buy time and try to shift tides.
You'll need to lock landers at epik.
Since we can no longer sell them underground through afternic.
And raise commission to 15% 20% 30%.
Domainers won't complain.
It's 1$ .com's.

Maybe limit that to invitation only accounts.
If you intend to mitigate risk.
Before new guy spends 100$.
Only to have you lose 1000$.

1$ .coms.
I buy 100 names.
You pay 1000$.
Platform minimum sales price $1000.
30% commission.
1% sell through rate.
You get $300.
You paid $1000.
Doesn't work.

But maybe you can work with numbers.
And keep bad apples out.
To make it work.

My consultant fee is $10,000 per email.
But here's a free one.
A very good one.

Get back to the original pitch.
Swiss bank registrar, for serious domainers.
Offer cheap .coms.
Select customers.
Force all sales to go through epik.
Raise minimum sales price.
Raise commission.
Monitor all new regs during tasting period (you can limit or advise accounts or get a refund from wherever registrars get domains from)
Tailored, close-up experience, for select & succesful customers.
Collaboration.
Which justifies high commission.

Squadhelp keeps 75% when they register on your behalf. People still do it, but it's BS.
You could have 40.

Forbid transfers for 3 years. Only allowed before when sale occurs (buyer convenience).
At cost renewals.
Minimum sales price.
Select customers.

You could always offer $2.99 .coms.
If you wish to mitigate further.

You can keep your current customers.
And start this as a side program.
Invitation only.
You know who is making numbers, you know who to invite.
@Rob Monster

If customer registers 100 domains. You pay 800$.
Sale occurs, 50% commission of 2000$ minimum sales price is 1000$ revenue.
But 2000$ is a lot, as a minimum, not as a selling price.

Now 2.99$ registration price x 100 registrations is 300$ saved on $800.
You pay $500.
50% commission on $1000 minimum sales price is $500.
You break even.
Thats the standing ground, based on 1% str and $1000 sales price.
40% commission better than 50%. But hey, its collaboration.

1% str, 2% str, 3% str.
$1000 sale price. $5000 sale price. Moonshot sale price.
Select invitations.
Monitor new regs. Limit/advise accounts.

You become some type of financial analyst.
More work.
More thrill.

Do it, and registrars are losing their new reg customers to you.
You want the serious ones.
They apply, with proof of sales.
Or you invite.

The swiss bank of domains.

GoDaddy is a private company and can choose who they want to do business with.

Brad
I believe GD is a public company (not sure if other's have clarified this). But yes, it is still their prerogative on who they want to do business with.

If anything remotely close to this happens they would lose majority of domainers and domains. It sounds like a club you are after. A very restrictive club not an open market.

We need the exact opposite— less restrictions, lower commissions (stay the same) less internal restrictions, better interface, less bugs, etc.

But more importantly a registrar who acts as a registrar without drama, rants, crazy talk, conspiracy theories, perpetual fighting with other players, religion and politics injected into everything. Never taking responsibility for what they do wrong in a given situation, a calm public figure, etc etc etc. Its all been said many times. A new drama every few weeks is not a desirable quality to alot of us.

I honestly don’t see any of that changing so maybe an exclusive club for people who are ok with all the above and the personalities running the ship is an option to consider.

Yes a private club.

Put the cheap .com and everyone's coming for hand regs.
Reverse exodus.
Which means you'll need to select your customers.
Now collaborators.
Private banking.
Private domaining.

Private banks dont need drama, they want discretion.

The feeling should me mutual. It is not obvious that domainers will mass join a club with no paypal and no afternic (obvious deficiencies that came to light recently).
