NameJet just scammed me and I am not going to be easy with them.

I had an old backorder placed for a crappy 4L .net at the time they were hot.

Here is the email I got years later from NameJet:

Dear NameJet Customer:

We are happy to inform you that a domain name you Backordered as a Wish List item is about to become available and is entering a Pending Delete status.

HOWEVER, your bid of $69.00 does not meet the minimum bid for this domain, $79.00.

Domain Name: jhmj.net

To participate in this auction, you must raise your bid to at least the minimum bid amount by Oct 20, 2020.

Increase your bid at:
http://www.namejet.com/Pages/Auctions/BackorderDetails.aspx?domainname=jhmj.net<=mybackorders

Domains that are already registered rarely reappear on the open market -- this may be the only opportunity you will have to get this domain. Don’t let it slip away.

I have never updated the minimum bid and I was charged $69.00.. I told NameJet to delete my account and they say that if they don't get the payment it will be done by october 28th.... I made sure not to have money left on my credit card so my account will be canceled... However, they found a way to charge my card anyway!

When did you place your backorder?

So they charged you $69 and you also didn't get the domain?

They have refund me now. I advise anyone to remove all their backorders you don’t want even the old ones as even if you don’t have a qualify bid you might won the backorder

They have refund me however, I have deleted my account for now

Seems like you were going to get the name that you bid on at the price you bid.

And it seems they refunded you without much trouble.

So, I wouldn't call it a scam

I did not raise my bid as I didn’t want the name... So I won anyway 🤷‍♂️

You did bid $69 on the name and you were going to get the name for $69.

And you got a refund.

At best I think you can call it a mistake by the NameJet system. A mistake that they corrected when you contacted them.

Sometimes there are serious problems with NameJet but this doesn't seem like one of them.

Not fan NameJet; they seem like worst customer service,

No clue why people continue flocking there;

Seen less issues (none, really) with Snapnames

What strikes me is that they found a way to charge your card anyway ??? How did they do that.
Did they make a reservation, before the auction ran ?

Dont even bother going after the NJ subsidiary at this point.

Go for the head web.com
Service is deteriorated. Only thankful for them sharing sales;

Offtopic; NJ still better than Flippa :xf.laugh:

I accidentally bid on a name at Snapnames (NameJet) a while back and spent the next hour trying to figure out how to stop them from being able to charge my card.

They don't give you an option to remove your payment details from your account and they don't show up on your bank account as a payee. The only way I could think of to stop them would be to report the card stolen and freeze the bank account/CC which seems insane. As the auction finished on the weekend I couldn't even ring their customer service. Luckily someone outbid me so panic was over.

I've also fallen foul of the old backorder. I backordered a name years ago and suddenly I win it. A name I didn't now want and no way to stop them taking my money.

In their (Snapnames and I guess therefore NameJet) defence they do state in the account settings that any backorder you make that doesn't get caught will remain active and you can choose if you want any backorders that were caught and went to auction to remain active or not.

That's not how credit cards work.

It's called a credit card because the card can be credited up to the limit you set ;)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Credit_card

Some credit cards have credit limits. He can withdraw the monthly limit in cash & so when they attempt to charge them they would get "insufficient funds" or "not authorized" something like that.

It does work like that with some credit cards. They're not prepaid cards..

Ok, maybe he meant that he maxed out his credit card to the credit limit?

I have had good experiences using SnapNames, both in buying and customer support. I do not know how the money thing spreads out between them and NameJet, but I have no problem spending good money with them, and I hope they continue to grow their drop catching abilities without becoming greedy.

NameJet, however, turns me totally off with their auction practices. Why do they not simply make their minimum bid for back orders $200? Their employee or bot accounts bid domain names up to this mark anyways (AKA NameJet account username styer), so it's stupid to have a back order minimum of $79 when certain domains will never go for under $200 because of NameJet blankly bidding them up to this point. It's blatantly obvious and ethical aspects aside, it's rather insulting they will do this thinking their customers do not see or catch on to it.

It is what it is and has been this way since the start. I would like to add that I have not seen or have any proof of SnapName doing anything like this. I have countless screenshots of NameJet repeatedly running prices up on domains. These employees or bot accounts on NameJet are always outbidding their own bids (why would you raise the bid on yourself?) and these accounts never buy or win a domain name unless a rare occasion happens where no one will pay the $200 for the domain.

So unless you are back ordering ten-character slop domains, I take the $79 back order, from the NameJet side, as an insult and a complete joke, but again, it what it is.

This is old news yo.

First off, its $69 and they refunded you. Take a breath before you start a flame thread.

Secondly, they have sent numerous emails to members stating that you need to explicitly remove yourself from domain auctions.

Was your point that you didn't raise it the $79? Who cares.

Thirdly, its bleeping $69 dollars. This is why the internet is a cesspool. The 2nd largest provider of domain auctions, selling for thousands upon thousands of dollars and some dude calls the whole operation a scam for $69 that was then refunded.

Jesus christ what a waste of time this thread is. It should be removed from the internet so nobody needs to waste a second of their lives reading it.

Are we not professionals here? Next we are going to be calling godaddy a scam because they upcharged us on domain privacy. Take a breath and move on with your life.
