(in case of .com is not available)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
No, it longer, and it’d screams “scam” to me.

i see no reason to own longer variation of it.

At least .Net; or even .Co; i’d avoid “.com.co”

Comparing .com.co with .com is like comparing apples with oranges.

let say that there is a good word that is registered in more than 200 extensions. would you still avoid using .com.co

Yes.

Nah, I think it's like comparing maggoty bread crumbs with chocolate.
Chocolate is liked by everyone, delicious and beautiful.
Maggoty bread crumbs... You can probably eat these and not die. You can probably successfully include it in your diet even if you can afford better things. But it will never be chocolate.

And answering main question: there are probably 50 better extensions for any domain than .com.co. I would consider even stuff like .us.com and .eu.com before considering .com.co.

There are hundreds of free to reg .com.co where the words are regged in 100+ extensions.
And when you say alternative, alternative for what? As a domainer to sell to a business to take it? Naa...

true!! seems like i wasn't clear enough and unfortunately can't edit the question.
but let me try to formulate the question again
" if you have a business and you want a specific name. and it happened that the .com is not available as usual and the name you want so badly is still registered in 100 extensions for example. would you consider using .com.co for your business?" (not reselling)

I will answer with stats:
According to Namebio, .com.co totally has 18 sales. This year only 1 sale and low $xxx. Also, after 2015 it had only 3 sales, all low $xxx. Why a seller, as you, to trust a weak extension like this? And even if you invest to .com.co how to sell a .co third level domain? The .co is strong because it can work .com substitute, .com.co not. End-users are not silly, they are smart people. They have already considered their options for the best advantage. And how a company can really has advantage by using this extension?

It's also worth remembering that .com.co is for Colombia what .co.nz is for New Zealand and .com.au is for Australia. It's probably the most recognized domain extension nationally. So sales you're seeing in Namebio are mostly for domestic market in Colombia.

.Com.co is the default extension for Colombian businesses but .Com is also very commonly used while .Co is occasionally used when the desired keyword is not available. While over the years I have had a couple of low $xXxX .COM sales to Colombian organizations, I believe one should be extremely cautious about regging .com.co domains. The odds of an aftermarket sale are very low and any potential sale likely has limited upside. I have a few but my wife is from Colombia and I foresee the possibility of some day living in either Cartagena or Medellin.

I had Payment.com.co which I deleted. If I had Payment.com, I wouldnt have let it go for less than 7 figures 🤭

It does run the risk of misleading potential visitors. Like you said, you plan to use .com.co if .com is taken. If so then people who would look up your domain without the help of links would probably lose their way to .com.co.

I would probably punch the guy who suggested me a .com.co and proceed to think of a new name for my business.

Obviously .com is not similar to .com.co. So it is prohibited to use .com.co

If my business was in Columbia I would consider it.

Otherwise, a big NO!

Columbia is a city in South Carolina.

Colombia is a country bordering Venezuela, Ecuador, Panama, Peru and Brazil.

Didn't Software.com.co just sell for about 25k? Maybe the top keywords are good in any extension...

So, just for my own education, I regged:

Flowers.com.co ( I know in Spanish this is Flores, so not sure about this one)

And

Laptops.com.co (like Software, which is also Software in Colombia, I believe Laptops is also Laptops in Colombia)

We'll see
