I've read a lot of posts on the importance of buying a two-word domain name but I would like to know what exactly is wrong with four, five or even six words if it sounds nice and has potential for good returns? Has a domain with five words ever been sold and what can be pointed as the reason for the sale? Thanks. I'm new here, btw.

How sellable are shipping containers filled with manure?

But respectfully; we used an example before... handmadewoodendoghouses.com - yet this one is not close to yours. Technically it's "just" four words but we used it as a joke before. Is there any domain you could name?

We are learning and certain niches can be described this way. However, their selling potential is always going to be more limited than two- or three-word ones. Especially since Google announced that keywords don't have to be (read: don't suppose to be targeted) included in a good domain. Content is just fine.

Nobody wants those when they can get a one two or three word name. Shortness is desirable.

Good point. Would you consider the new wave of alternative extensions to be the solution?

“Less is more”

So long; you might need hyphens to separate words like our friends in Germany do with .de

There have been some good 3 word sales but they took an aweful long time to sell.
NoMatterWhat.com sold for $22,999 recently but it was bought buy the investor 2011.

BoatsforSale is another but ForSale is a great word combination that is More like a single word
Many other XXXXforsale happened.
4 Words is a stretch unless it is very specific and veru good but you would be better off buying lottery tic

True. In some countries it's the default (and it's so much more easy for everyone to decipher each complex domain). Yet in the English-speaking world it's looked down at. Sad.

Because domains are closely related with domain names and almost no one is interested in a long name, especially a name of four words. There are some nice three and four word domain names. For example, a few days ago I remembered the domain name thewordofgod.com (we are talking about the words so..:)) - 4 word domain and it's great name but in that particular domain name the words are very short and it has a strong and unique meaning and influence. If you find a four word domain that has at least approximate meaning and potential and less than 20 letters because no one is interested in sausages for their dn it's ok to invest in it. Three word domains are ok if they have meaning and if there are not very long. Also, if you invest in those kind of domains invest only in dot com. Five and more words forget in my opinion.

Sausages for their DN... LOL!

You are right, sub 20-chars 4-word domains can be successful. We have to go now. About to research and buy...

ExtraordinarilyExtravagantDomainingIndustrySpecializationsAndInfiniteMarketingChoices.com (we hope it's gonna be available - should we buy the .net and .org, just in case?)... :)

Thanks, guys. But what would be your opinion on hand registering these four-five word domains on SH? Anything to lose? Bear with me please. I'm still learning and trying to see all the angles. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. May you stay, learn and prosper.
It's not about length or number of words a domain name has, its about the quality.. which increases prospect of selling.
Tougher to sell domains, 3 or 4, 5 etc words long because they lose brand connectivity the longer they get. Gets easier to replace wording with an alternative so the phrase better be a damn good one!

Do not register 3, 4 or 5 word names, you wont sell them.

Here are the steps:
1. Spend a month to read
2. Learn
3. Then ask the questions

Otherwise it looks like you are asking people doing the leg works for you.
Many domainers quit within the first year because they are refused to lean.

Good luck!

If it's 5 or 6 words then more than likely it's a phrase a call to action.

5 words so five to eight letters a word. so 25 to 40 characters.

Highest domain name sales 25 letters or more
