I'm still new to all of this, and am slowly crafting my long-term domaining stretegy. Personally, I am leaning toward being a more high-end domain seller at mostly $XXXX and $XXXXX domains, but I assume these domains don't sell quick, even if they're one-word domains. The strategy of focusing on $XXX may lead to more volume but low sales, yet it may bring in more money over time? However, domains that are going for that little must be very niche or not that popular, so perhaps it takes longer to sell them?

I was wondering what the main domaining strategy is of people here.

Jus be aware that if you plan on selling names in the $XX,XXX these will not be hand-regged names or xx, xxxx names, you will need to spend big to sell big in most cases. Be prepared to spend x,xxx for a name. Are you willing to spend that much?? Not a good idea when you dont know what makes a name worth x,xxx or xx,xxx, you'll more than likely waste that money as most people don't end up selling the first names they buy.

This is usually not a good strategy unless you have a decent budget and have some experience. Start off with a low risk strategy, buy 2 or 3 average names, maybe low to mid xxx and try sell them for high xxx or low x,xxx. Once you sell one, then reinvest that cash. Do not fall for the mistake we see every week here where a new domainer has hand-registered 20 or 50 crap names that will never sell.

The best thing to do to avoid wasting $$$ is read this forum for a few months and not buy any names until you know what makes a name valuable. Do lots of research, this is not a get rick quick game.

Check out namebio.com and dnjournal.com to see regular sales.

Good luck

Thanks for the advice! So far, I've just been buying a few domains at auctions and the GD closeouts whose metrics look decent. The only hand-reg I did is for one 5L .app domain for a popular cryptocurrency. I'm in it for the long-haul so I'll take your advice and continue to do my research. I'm currently willing to spend up to $500 per domain if they're quality, but I'm not sure if that's a high enough price ceiling to get $XXXX domains that can sell in under a year.

What if a domain value is $1500 using godaddy appraisal? What best pricing is suitable for such a domain to sale faster within a year?

Do not take any valuation tool seriously. They are all flawed and misleading. They undervalue high worth and over value many other lesser names. People buying domains cheap are mostly other domainers and they are usually as cheap as they come. For the fastest turnover buy good names and sell cheap. If you are willing to wait for perfect buyer you go XXXX and up.

There are many ways of buying and selling domains.

If you want to sell quickly you have to make outbound sales or resell wholesale.

If you want to sell at enduser prices it takes time. You have to buy the right names and wait for the right buyer.

I suggest you start small and dont spend a lotz unless you can afford to forget about that money and also get quality names that you can wait to sell

In general, it depends mainly on what you think the domain is worth, whether it fits in your portfolio, and if you have the cash on hand. I don't think anyone sets out with a certain price in their mind. On some days, you can get a really good deal. On others, you're paying close to what the domain is worth. That's the ups and downs of domains.

That is what is fascinating about domain investing...there are sooooooo many ways to invest. There are several trains of thought and strategies...my focus is on fewer sales with higher sales amounts. Of course that requires that better names are acquired to begin with. There is room for all in this wacky domaining world!

There are almost as many " buying and selling strategies " as there are domain names and each
buyer/seller should tailor their strategies to their individual financial circumstances.

My domain name sales approach is rather simple:

Research - Buy - Price - Hold on 'till get my price even if it takes years - Sell - Pat myself on the back a couple of times and - Move forward.

I only acquire names to sell in the XXXX range, and refuse to make a sale that does not yield in the XXXX profit range after all cost factors, renewals, fees, taxes, etc are factored in.
