Received the following message from Nixi

Dear Registrant / Customer,

This is to inform that the registrar account of your current registrar – Mitsu Inc. has been terminated by National Internet Exchange of India(NIXI) which manages the .IN Registry.

In view of the termination, your registrar will not be able to provide you any domain management services for .IN or .भारत (in all supported languages).

In order to protect your rights and commercial interests,.IN Registry hereby informs you to transfer your domain(s) to an alternate Accredited Registrar of .IN Registry of your choice. Please view the link below for the list of registrars - https://registry.in/Accredited_Registrars

You may contact your preferred new registrar on your own for transferring your domain(s) and follow the process as may be advised by the new registrar.

Meanwhile to maintain continuity, .IN Registry is taking over the control of your domain names and if you require any changes to your existing contact details or Nameserver associated with your domain name, you are requested to send an email from your registrant email id, as reflecting in whois records to [email protected].

While moving to a new registrar, you are requested to contact .IN Registry to obtain your domain authorization or “AUTH CODE” – which will be required by the new registrar to initiate transfer of your domain(s).

You are requested to complete the transfer process in the next 15 days from the date of this email. If not, .IN Registry will initiate its own process to transfer your domain to another registrar as may be determined by .IN Registry.

Sincerely yours,
National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI)

Has anyone else received this email, and knows what is the real reason for termination of Mitsu, as it is causing a lot of inconvenience

@sandheep This could very well be legit. Email NIXI to confirm. If so, congrats.

It is legit and I had it confirmed with Mitsu's Support yesterday. It is quite unfortunate it has come down to this. I sent them the following response to the email and do not expect any reply. If they do respond, I will post here.

Hello
As one of the very early adopters, supporters and advocates for the .IN domain names, this email and the way the Registry has handled this issue is very embarrassing.
  1. Am I right to believe that the Registry for my great country cannot afford to setup or use its own email server and has to use the likes of Rediffmail Pro to send out BCCed emails?

  2. Clicking the link to the Accredited_Registrars in the email goes to Rediff.com and copy pasting the link takes me to the registry's homepage. Again, embarrassing. Maybe QC the emails next time?

  3. Do you have a list of my domain names that require transfer out of M/s. MITSU Inc.?

  4. If you do have the list of my domain names, can you please send me the AUTH codes for the same so that I can transfer them out to a provider of my choosing?

  5. When I go to the Registry's website and look at the Accredited Registrars, I see '#1 IndianDomains d.b.a. Mitsu.in' listed there. Does this mean I can use the AUTH code to transfer the domain names back to Mitsu?

  6. You state that the renewal fee for my domain names have to be paid from the original renewal date. Most of my domain names were up for renewal in July 2018. Does this mean I have to pay for three years to renew to July 2021? If that is true, at what rate will I be renewing them? I obviously cannot pay 2020's renewal price for a renewal in 2018. Also, to whom and how will I be making this payment for the renewal?

  7. You mention that I should 'complete the transfer process in next 15 days from the date of this email'. What happens if I do not get the AUTH code within the next 15 days? Do I lose my domain names and the corresponding businesses on the domains altogether? If that were true, I will have to initiate legal proceedings of my own against the Registry.
I must say, the way the Registry has handled this issue has made a lot of us lose trust in the .IN registry and I have stopped registering and recommending .IN to my customers.

P.S. Logging back to NamePros after almost a decade.. Its good to be back :)

@sandheep
I also received that email today.
I believe it's legitimate as everything in the email seems to originate from [email protected] (that's .in registry).

I'm not sure but I remember a similar email was sent by the registry when the incident first happened with Mitsu. I don't know if anyone tried back then to transfer out and whether that was successful though.

Can anyone recommend a registrar to transfer names to?

Godaddy / Namecheap / Crazy domains all seem very expensive for Indian domains.

Hi, just fyi since I received the email from the first ones. The procedure is not as smooth as expected.
Classic NIXI. They are terribly slow.
I send the verifying documentation of my identity in order to receive the auth code the same night I received the email.
After a lot of email asking what is going on the final OK with the auth code came 10 days after my original email.
So I really am curious if they even understood what they wrote on the original email about "You are requested to complete the transfer process in the next 15 days from the date of this email otherwise Registry will initiate required process."
or if they are doing it on purpose..

So i had a .IN domain with Mitsu and i received the same email last month from registry. I opted for Dynadot as well. I have been asked to pay 3 years of pending renewal fee 5.79x3 = 17.37$ (since Feb 2018) + transfer fee that i already paid which was on sale for 4.99$
