Earlier today, the domain 'sex.crypto' sold for 230 ETH, or approximately $90,000 at press time. The domain extension .crypto is generated by Unstoppable Domains and is censorship-resistant. The transaction, which occurred on OpenSea's token marketplace, was completed by a user named Maxstealth. Currently, he owns 196 .crypto domains in total. [Read all]

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
That’s easy, put a little bottom to switch search bar, one for web 2.0 the other 3.0.
The question should be what if an other public chain that has own main net creats an other .crypto domain name? Which one Chrome will adopt?

True a lot of issues to be resolved.

I hope the common block chain resolution and DNS can find a common ground somewhere so that it would not impact any stakeholder.

There are more than 20000+ now live on the decentralized web.
If Chrome doesn't accept it natively someone will invent it eventually, now Opera, Chrome, Firefox have extension supporting it, domainers should Google the definition of IPFS first and then you'll find crypto domains don't need to give a crap to ICANN.
On the other hand, if .com, .net want to join Ethereum or Zilliqa name service resolutions it depends on the team communities, luckily they are on the way planning.

That's one for the courts. It might come down to trademarks in courts. Unstoppable Domains obviously has a business and is using it. They would have a decent chance at winning, IMO.

not by default, aren't you required to download something?

these are intranets

one public internet (no net neutrality=all domains) nothing to download/login/register/password is internet backbone not browser.

bottom line = it doesn't work when SOMEONE ELSE types it in..

google.com is not going anywhere, the #2 browser netscape supported new.net domains which are now all extinct..

as for future browsers you're depending on adoption still and these people just wanted generics on the left side of the dot like I used to try to cut corners..

people take for granted .com and the web protocols were a bigger invention at the time..

-have a special day

This technology will growing in exponential speed in next couple years, the whole (n)TLDs are in danger of boat wreck, not saying they're gonna vanished but the value would decreased.
I'm disliked here...

People never like change. I wish I was more technologically savvy to take advantage of it. Alas, I am not.

(hehehe - I used alas in a sentence.)

So does being the "native" extension make .eth better than for example .crypto?
.eth is native for Ethereum, .crypto is a token created in ERC 721 Protocol, so .crypto is under Ethereum which means you need eth wallet to own .crypto, technically they both can be resolved in ENS, as like xyz, .club bonding to ENS, but I am not sure its flexibility allowing .crypto be supported to every dapps built in Ethereum, in that case i would choose native .eth than .crypto.

I lobe the concept of decentralized dns, but they should use a two letter TLD if they want to be serious. .crypto is too damn long. I don't even buy 6 letter .co
.et would be a great .net typo extension, why not make typos of the popular extensions and make them available to domainers?

The point of blockchain domains is not about typos. Its about getting away from a centralized system.

Also, I believe 2 letter extensions are also reserved for country code extensions.

We need proof fellas;

Convoluted set up to access ngtld, for one.

Doesnt really seem like a “domain”

What is “OpenSea marketplace”? Never heard.
Hi

When no one has heard of an investment opportunity, that is the time to get in, if you truly believe in the project and industry. The blockchain domain and crypto space is in its infancy. Its akin to advent of the internet in the late 80s, early 90s when one word .coms were cheap because everyone was screaming the whole industry was a scam and a big bubble. Thats when you can get in there for the cheapest possible price.

Most failed investors only invest after the ship has sailed, when everyone else finds out about it, and pumps the price up, when its too late to make the biggest gains.

People can either take a chance and put some money into this that they can afford to lose or sit on the sidelines and potentially miss out again, just like they did before the early .com boom.

Is there any relationship between sex and crypto ? That is how you should know that human does not think same. Some are of higher spirit and some are of lower spirit.

All fingers crossed; at least two persons have bought sex.crypto now tomorrow could bring the third person.
I am just curious to know why it was priced and sold at that price - 230Eth? Wonder shall never end !
Theres a big relationship between sex and crypto.

Think of websites such as Pornhub. They accept litecoin amd a few other cryptos for payment. Now imagine if they had sex.crypto. All the payer would have to do is type sex.crypto to make payment.

Also, imagine an escort agency. Thwy could easily accept payment in crypto via the domain.

The possibilities are huge in a multi billion dollar industry where privacy and confidentiality are critical.

I still think there are better naming options out there. Don't think this sale will be a good one.

Well , I was busy today building my first .crypto website. Even though unstoppabledomains offers very simple templates, I ran into many problems. Now finally waiting to see if it works out.
