That was literally what went wrong. They governed the place like a Marxist banana republic, drove out all the productive citizens with high taxes and crime, and regularly shook down Democratic presidents to provide cash support for the poor and oppressed black people of the city. Coleman Young, the criminal mayor who started all this, was always praised as a great black leader by the national media. The whole process took several decades, over 50 years of corruption. That's why they get away with it. They implement bad policies, always making sure to line their pockets along the way. Things don't fall apart in 5 years or even 10 years, so people think they policies must have been OK. It's a slow process.

Driving east from here to the adjacent town of Grosse Pointe, the change is stunning. One moment you are driving through stuff like this, and then 2 blocks later it all greenery, nice houses, and well maintained lawns and shops. Literally the same area, but 2 different municipal governments.

One of the few good things about the city was its great music heritage. Rock and roll, Motown, punk and techno.... wouldn't be the same without Detroit.

In the late 70's auto manufacturers had to retool and chose to make cars in Mexico. NAFTA.

Pres. Trump forced GM to sell an abandoned factory in Ohio. The new owner manufactures electric trucks and GM is building a plant nearby to manufacture batteries. I have no idea how much that cost tax payers or how many jobs are expected.

what these Dems forget is that people know we can wear as many masks and take as many precautions as we like while going to vote in person. As Joe Biden continues to stick his foot in his mouth regarding Black America , Donald Trump gets stronger in the last 100 days before the election. Trickery is old technology that no longer works. Trickery to have a complete mail in ballot contest is an ignorant move as well, we have somewhat adjusted to the COVID-19 now by wearing proper protection, you Dems can go to grocery stores, eateries , banks , but you can’t go to the voting polls to vote.
