To Mask or not To Mask... is there even a question?

Hello Mods and Mems,

Well here we have it. Mandatory mask wearing in public.
Now most of you that know me understand that I am not the kind of guy that welcomes new laws...
infringement on personal freedom... that kind of stuff.
However, their are some laws that have been passed in my lifetime I believe are just plain common sense.

Car seats for kids.
Seat belts.
No riding in the back of pickup trucks.
No smoking in public places.
Stuff like this saves lives.

Wearing a mask in public is not so much for your own protection, but for the protection of those around you.
This is not my opinion. According to the medical professionals, this is a fact.

Lets hear from you.
Without turning this into a political pissing match, those of you who believe against wearing masks in public, please justify your position.

Please keep it civil... no personal attacks.

when eating my morning cereal
which consists of 25,000 drops of milk
651 grains
and it took 27 spoonfuls to eat it

Vaccines are a separate issue. I'm not big on vaccines or most pharmaceutical drugs, but like I said that is a separate issue.
I only had mentioned it because one or many vaccines are coming down the pike.
I would much rather see we as humans squash the virus on our own by stopping the transfer of it by wearing mask and social distancing until this thing goes away.

I am only here in the Mask thread to talk about masks.
You can start a thread about vaccines if you want to talk about vaccines.

No one is claiming that the pandemic is going to be brought to an end just by the simple act of wearing a mask, but if wearing a mask can even reduce the spread of the virus by a small percentage it is still worth giving it a try specially when combined with frequent hand washing, physical distancing, not touching one's face, keeping good hygiene, sanitizing the objects and the environment that you come in contact with, sheltering in place when you don't have to go out, and quarantining one's self and contacting a health professional if symptoms start to appear.

Making all kinds of nice arguments about the truth, freedom, and hidden conspiracies while ignoring the fundamental fact that you can help save someone's life by wearing a mask is kind of baffling to me.

On a side note, the two worst drivers I've encountered recently were alone in their cars wearing masks.

One driving really slow in the fast lane holding up traffic.

The other spaced about 15 feet behind the car in front of them at a red light so none of the cars behind them could squeeze into the right lane to turn right.

On a positive note, I've still not seen a single jogger wearing a mask.
