Hi, I just bought a domain name about 3 wks ago, the valuation from Godaddy appraisal and Estibot is just between 800 to 1000 USD. Listed it on Godaddy auctions and Afternic with a buy offer of $500. Just this morning I get this email for forwarded by Godaddy to my inbox. (Some details replaced with x to preserve anonymity)

“Hello! I represent a buyer from South Korea who wants to purchase your domain for $55000 If it's not enough we may negotiate. Regards, Chang xxxx, Customer Support Cafe24 Seoul Korea Phone: 82xxxxxxxx”

I told them to just go to Afternic or Godaddy auction and buy the domain from the either site, so the sale will be hassle free, I am also quite suspicious about the offer. Then I get this email below after an hour..

“My name is xxxxxx. You received email from my colleague. I'm responsible for communications with English speaking clients in Cafe 24 (hosting provider from Korea).

We contacted you via GoDaddy WHO IS form. We represent the buyer from South Korea. Your buyer is a company from Korea. Your domain will be used to generate traffic to their new web project so they offer a good price. Commission of our company is 6%. It's paid when you get the money.

They will pay you via the Escrow dot com or Swiss Escrow service. You can be paid via wire, Paypal, check or any other method you prefer.

The buyer offers $55,000 usd.

Do you have a domain certificate for Korea? It's required by their bank.

The final sale price will depend on the certificate ($55,000 minimum - if it comes higher they will pay more).

If you don't have it's not a problem. You can order it online.

Please note they cannot accept it from any agency. They need a manual service. It also must be a third party independent agency (not your broker our auction site) and must be accepted by their bank.

The certification includes the following:
1. Independent valuation of the market price. It will show your domain name is not overpriced. On the other hand if the valuation comes higher, he will increase the price accordingly. In the domain name industry, there are many appraisal tools that people use to estimate the value of a domain name. My client does not want to risk and doesn't accept services that use scripts. If you are unsure about some service feel free to ask me.
2. TM and law compliance verification. It proves your domain has no trademark problems.
3. Copy in Korean.

The process is very easy:
1. Go to the certificate agency site and order the certificate . Just submit your domains and let them know you have a buyer with $XX,XXX offer. It will help you to get a better valuation.

If your domain is worth at least $10000, they will send you the payment instructions. If it's not possible, they won't send you the instructions. This way you will not lose anything. It's very convenient and gives you the full protection. Other services charge you upfront even if your domain is not worth spending the appraisal fee, so I don't recommend them.

2. Send the certificate to me and we will start the sale process. As soon as the buyer receives your certificate they will buy your domain.

If you are new to the certification process, I can help you with the step by step instructions.

You may check my recent domain sales in my private domain sale group in the Telegram messenger: a URL given for Telegram gp

Add me ( at XxxxLawyer) to your contacts and we will be able to chat in Telegram. If you don't have Telegram you may install it on your smartphone from Google Play or AppStore.

Please respond ASAP. We have another seller and he agrees to certify the domain. If you don't respond we will buy his domain.

100% scam, on the rise lately.

Its a scam. simple. They ask to certify the domain for some price from third-party through which they receive a commission. You pay for the (fake) certificate, they both get money, later they'll cancel their offer saying their client is not interested in your domain anymore!

My eMail actually came in through GoDaddy as a 3rd Party:

Someone is trying to contact you regarding [domain].com.

Here is the message from [email protected]. Once again, this is NOT from a GoDaddy representative.

Hello! We are interested in purchasing your domain. Respond and I will send details. Elisa Tsoy

I responded because I never received a scam eMail via GoDaddy before. I was intrigued.
They are clearly trying to scam people. What a waste of time.

Here is the FULL eMail I received after I responded.

Indeed, it is the exact email copy I received. Just the same template.. 😬.
I wonder what the necessary agencies in the domaining industry do to discourage and even penalize these scammers..

Thanks for sharing yours too..

Do you think this is legitimate? Thank you.

Yes! It's a scam, obviously! Just block and ignore. Don't give them any information. I know, the same scam approached me just last week. I'm a new domainer as well.
