Ok guys. Don't laugh at me too much but I got scammed out of $314 bucks panic buying N95 masks for me, my family, my girl and her family.

So I "thought" I was buying a 50 pack of N95 masks for $289 check the current prices online and you will see this price is not too far fetched. at 50 masks for a price of $289 that comes out to $5.78 each. We all make crazy decisions in times like this and to me this was a reasonable purchase. yea I know it's price gouging but given the circumstances that you can't find these masks anywhere now. $5.78 a piece was acceptable. I don't like it but when compared to all my other frivolous purchases in the past around the same cost. It just made sense.

If you can buy a custom blue suit for $400 bucks then surely you can spend $289 for something that will help keep your family safe.

Anyways. I bought these from this website below. It "looked" legit. yea yea I know stupid right?

SafetysMask.com

As a domainer I really should have known better given the tools we have at our disposable like whois.com.

SafetysMask.com regged 2020-02-23:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:
@GoDaddy
@Joe Styler

That should have been red flag numero uno.

I mention this because this is a domainer website and we need to talk about domains. Even if at least a little bit.

And then there is the price $289 for a 50 pack when websites like Ebay is charging $150 for a 10 pack.

and then there is the contact info below from their website.

We are committed to providing the best products and friendliest customer service. If you should have any questions about ordering or a question about any of our great products, please feel free to contact us with the information provided below. And yes. I'm an idiot. Did not check this prior to purchase. OutLook? Really?

I guess I was in panic mode after looking for how much these things were selling on Amazon and Ebay. That's if they were even available. Most options they were out of stock and restock will be in the closest time in June!

I don't know about you guys but me? I'm not even doing "domaining" right now but just buying supplies as cheap as possible.

Anyways. Placed my order.

Then I got an email from them. And guess what was missing in the confirmed payment email?

TRACKING NUMBER!!!!!

Red Flag number 2 or 3.

Part of me stupidly thought to give them a chance.

I ordered 2 day shipping for this for $25 because I really was panicking.

so that's a total of $314 now.

The order never arrived after 2 days or 3 days.

I FINALLY check their contact page and called their number. (540)450-4525

Take a guess?

Mailbox is Full.

Also after I tried to access their website it took a hell of a long time to load. I was scared it would not pop up and had been deleted but ok it did show. felt some relief but too soon to have a party.

I emailed them. No reply.

On the random I Googled their contact page and get these results below. RED FLAG #4.

You visited this page on 3/11/20.

seems as though they had a website before.

see the website luckybest.site ? doesn't exist anymore.

luckybest.site regged 2019-12-10
State:Tennessee
Country:US

These people are trying to make themselves look like they are located in the USA.

See the number 1 (435) 830-7278 ????

Called that. someone did pick up. With all due respect sounded like some skinny white boy in the middle of Utah.

He told me he has received over 600 calls already from people about their orders not showing up.

And then he said I've been scammed.

Part of me suspects this guy is the scammer but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt because he seemed surprised I had his number.

He said "the scammers" put his phone number up on that website.

Anyways. Filed a dispute. First with my Sparks Business Card. Had the credit card cancelled and issued a new one but I forgot I had used the card at Paypal.

Sparks said they would handle it no questions asked and funds would be returned as it seems obvious it was a scam. God I love my Sparks Business account!

That was on the 3rd day when my order did not arrive after my purchase date.

Finally got around to filing a dispute with Paypal. something I should have done already but didn't.

Filed it yesterday.

Paypal contacted the seller. FMONLINESHOP about the dispute and guess what?

That's when they FINALLY SENT IT OUT.

so what now? I already purchased replacements for these masks. the ones I found were much cheaper.

Sparks already going to refund me but now this seller is still sending? 5 days later?

I am NOT PAYING FOR THIS.

i filed a dispute already. This probably pissed off seller. So now I'm fearful they will purposefully send me a package full of Coronavirus infected masks. Yea that's what I'm thinking.

I'm thinking they sent me the products after I filed a dispute with Paypal because they want to keep their Paypal account ALIVE so they can keep scamming people.

here's the best part!

Their website says they are a USA Based business (Virginia USA). I expected my order to come from USA. meaning I assumed this company had a stockpile of this 3M N95 masks made in the USA prior to this pandemic. No offense to Chinese but I don't want to buy anything being shipped from China right now. I know it's ignorant but it's personal preference. I have a 78 year old mother that relies on my. I can't get sick or get her sick because I got a package from China.

There is ignorance and then there is an "abundance of caution".

When this item arrives I am going to grab it from the mailbox with trash bags. tie it up and throw it in the incinerator or actually send it to the authorities.

I know I'm acting all crazy right now but you know what? we live in a crazy world.

So becareful what you buy friends. especially if it's a product designed to make money from this crisis.

Scammers will take advantage of this situation to scam people.

Thank God I used Paypal and Sparks!

So I did no lose really my money. if this were someone using just paypal or just their debit card? I don't know.

Harden up princess.

hahaha. funny guy. let's be real for a second.

It's easy to say "cowboy up" but we are talking about a virus that make the toughest Navy Seal out there reduced to weak baby. no joke.

guys that can take a bullet to the face will be scared of this. no amount of "hardness" is immune to this thing.

and I admit. I'm not of the above. just some fat diabetic who gets outta breath walking to the Chinese restaurant. but

A wise man was once asked by a young boy how do I become wise as you?
wise man says. To become wise is to assume you know nothing and then work your way from there.

A strong man was once asked by a boy how do I become as strong as you?
Strong man says. To become strong you must accept how weak you really are and then work you way from there.

this pandemic is not about who is strongest anyway it's about who is the most prepared. who planned ahead.

in domaining we always praise domainers who had the foresight to register domains that no one would have regged back in 2001 like ACRepair.com yet it "sold" for $1.5 million.

only time will tell who is right in this situation. Those who panicked and got laughed at? or those who didn't and get sick?

if this all blows over and the masks were never needed or used would I feel stupid? Nope.

It will just be one of those things I'll talk about with my kids or family, laughing about "remember when I bought those 50 N95 masks back in 2020 for $314? hahaha lol crazy!"

10 years from now. they'll laugh but I doubt anyone will really react about it like they do now.

of course if 10 years from now history will say 10 million people died. (God forbid). Will people really have the balls to ridicule the panic.

my girl just told me now.

Idaho, West Virginia, Alabama has no infected. We can all speculate as to why.

we still wear masks outside, even the situation is undercontrol in china.
soon we will win the war against the damn virus finally and absolutely.
we consider it a responsible action for oneself and others.
it is our commom sense to wear a mask outside.

luckily china has been into a no cash world a few years ago.
we can use alipay, wechat to make payment on phone in seconds, for shopping, taxt or anything you need to be delivered to your home.

I am reading that China is responsible for stopping the spread of one of the two strains of this virus the S or the L. I forget which ones is the most infectious. too many conflicting info online.

Supposedly whichever the infectious strain was..it was stopped by China's drastic measures to stop this from spreading. The ones infecting other countries is said to be the less infectious strain. I think the L? and the S is the ancestral strain meaning the first people who got infected had the S and as it jumped to the next people it mutated to the L? or the other way around?

What's interesting is how Taiwan which is right next to China and has millions of travelers going to and from China has only 47 infected.

yet Italy has thousands.

America?

The only good thing now is that supposedly the infection rate in China is decreasing at least that's how the media is telling the story.

Be safe my friend.

And now there is a run on Vitamin C pills all over the place because some doctor online said it's your best defense against this virus.

The "Safetys" should have been the first sign, always look for typos and incorrect words/tenses.

Why would you want 50 masks?? This panic buying is getting ridiculous now, the media is causing this frenzy.

Go to your local hardware and buy a couple of masks the carpenters use if you really want one.

Panic buying is not ridiculous. We have been told to stock up for the last month. My local stores here in the US are bare. No answers as to when they will restock. When they do get more stuff they could put per person limits. Troubling times brings out the worst in people. I anticipate seeing more brawling at stores when supplies are replenished.

Does anyone feel like The Walking Dead prepared us for something like this?

whenever I see stories like the one back in 2013 below about EBT Food Stamps glitch and no one got their food stamps. I feel like something like this was just a "trial run" and experimental "test" to see how the people would react in a planned crisis situation. like as if they were saying "hmmm let's see what happens when we cut off their Food stamps."

https://nypost.com/2013/10/15/food-stamp-glitch-sparks-legal-looting-at-walmart/

"
Walmart’s shelves were cleared in two cities after a software malfunction cleared spending limits from cards for two hours.

Shoppers in Mansfield and Springhill, Louisiana, cleared shelves as they filled shopping carts to overflowing, CBS affiliate KSLA reported.

Springhill Police Chief Will Lynd said they were called in to help the employees at Walmart because there were so many people clearing the shelves. The Walmart Supercenter Mansfield shelves were cleared in two hours.

“It was worse than anything we had ever seen in this town,” Lynd said. “There was no food left on any of the shelves, and no meat left. The grocery part of Walmart was totally decimated.”

“I saw people drag out eight to ten grocery carts.” One person hauled away more than $700 worth of groceries, Lynd added."

Let's feel "happy" that it's just panic buying right now where people are actually paying for stuff and not just outright looting.

all products we buy are to send free to our relatives and friends.
and all people we know who buy such items abroad all did the same.
it will be very shame for any chinese to take a charge for such products for their relatives and friends, neighbors, even Colleagues

I'm keeping 5 for me. 5 for mom but she hardly goes out.
5 for my girl. 10 for her sister and her husband and kids. The rest for aunts and uncles around here. They all have been asking me for weeks to find them some. I'll give it to them for free.

not selling any of this stuff for profit.

many who are are getting huge fines now. Already bought these are "price gouge" prices. for me to "break even" I'd have to do the same just to get rid of them. And that's just trouble.

I use to visit family and bring them a leg of ham or bottle of wine. I think this year it's going to be N95 masks.

I've seen these numbers myself and no doubt it gives some comfort.not that I'm "Glad" 41 people died. no one should be "glad" anyone died.

but this info is one sided.

To those who are in the hospital right now infected with Covid and experiencing the effects of it.

Do you think they take comfort knowing only 41 people died?

I don't think right now people are panicking about "dying" they are panicking just "getting infected" period and what it entails being out of work.

Dead is Dead. Once you are dead nothing more to worry about.

But if you are still alive and you survive Covid but now are homeless because you were out of work for a month?

how would life be then?

In the USA many are living paycheck to paycheck and can't get paid leave. so if they get sick hate to say this but it's close to being bad. When he or she survives they will be homeless.

If you are saying that people should relax because because only 41 people have died tell that to however many are infected and can't work and don't have paid sick leave for 1+ months.

Also, I've had friends and family who had influenza or healed up. it was never an issue "hanging around them". Covid19? different story.

As far as panic. I don't like this concept of Don't panic only 5,800 infected.

Panic only when it's up to 60,000 in the USA same as influenza.

Panicking at 60,000 infections is a bit too late to panic really.

i am saying that the national and global effects and numbers are being blown completely blown out of proportion. many more people are adversely affected by the flu and it is getting no coverage.

I was on the road for for the last 2 weeks (4 cities, 6 airports, 5 hotels, 8 ubers, 4 hotel shuttles and 1 rental car) and finally got home late Thursday night spending an hour with the fam before calling it a night.

Though I had been catching bits and pieces of what was going on with the virus outbreak -- and saw all the people wearing "masks" (including simple painter/dust masks and even one wearing a bandanna!) at the airports -- I had no idea that it had reached a level of actual panic until Friday morning when I swung by a grocery store on my way to work to grab some snacks for the work day.

My jaw just about hit the floor when I walked in to the store at 9:00am and saw that all the registers were already open and they all had lines that stretched to the back of the store. Holy crap! I picked up some apples and some other "healthy snacks" (all of 6 items) and then stood inline for 20-25+ minutes to check out.

As a family, our household is always stocked with enough food to feed a small army for a couple of weeks so we were already set and didn't really have to participate in other panic shopping, though we did go to one of the local dollar stores to get some extra soap and toothpaste. (No monster lines like the grocery store and there were tons of both...)

We've lived in places with hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, and earthquakes, so I've always made it a point to have emergency supplies of various sorts. I admit it, I'm a bit of a prepper - better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it. Re. facemasks, hand sanitizer, wipes, etc. We do have some, but not enough to even begin to get us all through a full week, hence the extra soap.

I'm dumbfounded by everyone's need to buy water. Are we expecting the public utilities to shut down?

Also, one of the things that all but one of the airport mask wearers had in common, was that they were all constantly messing with the masks and/or taking them on and off. I watched one guy who had great self control of himself and his mask in the terminal, but the minute we got on the plane he took it off -- DOH!!!

OP, not to beat on you or anyone else up, but a lesson I learned a long time ago -- and it took several times before the lesson finally sank in -- anytime you find yourself panicking or feel like your behind the curve, it's immediately time to stop, step back, reevaluate your situation, your thinking and your actions or plan of action. For yourself and your family, you need to be the calming force and sense of reason. Believe in yourself and your loved ones will trust the direction you take them in, even if it goes against the direction others might be going.

On a side note, as to...
Guys whether you admit it or not are the dirtiest genders out there! Women are much cleaner.
Having worked nightclubs in my earlier years, I would very much disagree with you. You should have seen what the women's' restrooms looked like at the end of the night compared to the men's room.

The clubs I worked were nice, upscale operations and both sex's restrooms were cleaned thoroughly everyday as nice as (I hope) you would clean your's if you were planning on entertaining guests. But EVERYNIGHT -- without exception - the women's restrooms were thrashed and trashed with the nastiest stuff EVERYWHERE -- the seats, the floor, the stall walls... Rarely did I see anything approaching this level of daily nastiness in our men's room.

This is true. Agreed Sorry. I misunderstood. I think I need to walk away from this screen a bit. getting too heated over this. I'm switching back and forth between Paypal and chatting here over this bs with this order.

hahaha to the "side note" and thanks for the advice. I'll seriously take it under advisement as I know what I'm doing now goes against my better judgement and common sense. but I just can't risk myself thinking in the future "I shoulda done more." or "why did I listen to all those RELAXED people that are infected now?"

the unknown is a huge factor. Just know in my area in my town they said 1 is infected. Being close to NYC and commuters going back and forth from Jersey City to NYC daily. it was bound to happen.

so earlier today. it was one confirmed. now?? it's 5.

let me repeat. first it was 1 that I knew off. and NOW it's 5. that's 4 that I did not know off.

now they are saying it's not airborne but droplets how you get it.

it's always thee unknown that increases the panic. the unsurety.

But overall men are dirtier by far friend. nightclubs women get drunk out their minds because men try to get them drunk. women to the bathroom and aren't themselves. I used to bounce in a stripclub for 5-6 years and the women's bathrooms were so clean you can eat off the floor. only noticed when I went in there with a girl for a random "inspection". lol

I guess depends on the area.

do you think that plain old soap and water is just as good?

it is.

why do people clutch the Holy Cross or Bible or Torah or Koran? because it makes them feel safe. a gun or knife could be more effective.but they choose the others instead.

why did I decide to shell out $314 for 50 masks? because buying masks was on my "to do list" or priorities. just wanted to get it done and done. One less thing to worry about.

I think the same thing applies with Sanitizers. people want the "ultimate solution" so it's done and done and no worries.

Life for some was bad enough as it was prior to coronavirus. and now they have to worry about it? I don't think it's panic. I think in their minds it's just one less thing to worry about.

Also logically, humans love the ultimate solution to KILL a problem. whether it's rats or roaches or spiders or in this Viruses.

china certainly does not have a first-world health care system but they seem to have gotten the upper hand on this. their numbers show that the rate of new infections is way, way down compared to early on and they have closed all of their temporary hospitals.

I was talking a aquaintenance today that is an MD in another city (a big one). They said the local hospitals had set up triage in their parking lots. If someone is suspected of having the virus, they are tested and then sent home for self-quarantining unless they are in respiratory distress or have low blood oxygen levels.

If it makes anyone feel any better, they said the number of possibly infected patients has been minimal so far and the vast majority of those suspected of being infected are being sent home.

yea my girl's father went to doctor's today for yearly check up.
said he overheard the secretary of his doctor talk to someone on the phone. The person on the phone said their mother just came home from the Philippines and is "not feeling well" and asked if she could come see the doctor.

Secretary said "Noooooooooooooooooooooo. stay home and call 911 and let them know you are self-quarantining yourself for the next 14 days.

So like what the hell? If you are sick you are screwed because your only choice is go home. this virus. most of the ones I've see were in hospital and many of those died. how much more for those told to go home?

people don't have hospital style accomodations at home plus equipment. how crazy is that? I mean I get it. they will probably infect others.

most hospitals have a set up to quarantine tuberculosis patients. This would work for Covid-19 patients no?

yea and there also seems to be this "black ash" that's all over the place "lately". I wonder what this is?

I've read that China had to kill and burn like 40 million pigs and other livestock not to risk infection. All went to incinerators. I wonder what else went in there?

we need to full understand the magnitude of what China did to "get the upper hand on this".

Quarantine. Ok fine.
infected? hospitals?

I read somewhere China literally quarantined all of Wuhan and I think the entire Hubei province and sent no supplies.

there were videos of what I call "super spreaders" who were purposefully coughing on park benches or elevator buttons and rubbing it all over to get people sick and licking supermarket items. all caught on CCTV.

If anything, China might have "eliminated" these people effectively causing drop in infections.

people don't have hospital style accomodations at home plus equipment. how crazy is that? I mean I get it. they will probably infect others.

most hospitals have a set up to quarantine tuberculosis patients. This would work for Covid-19 patients no?

Well that's not much the hospital can do so unless you are experiencing other complications it kinda makes sense.

Also, here in the US our hospitals are quite inadequate even for quarantining. The local news here said we had several COVID-19 patients transfered to one of our local hospitals because it is one of only 10 nationwide with special airborne infection isolation rooms.

Ryan217 is absolutely correct!

Though anti-viral drugs are available, we don't have drugs that specifically target the covid-19 virus. As most people that get it will only suffer flu like syptoms at worst, and we have no idea how many people may eventually be infected or to what extent it will effect them, it makes absolute sense to conserve and reserve the drugs, equipment, personell and bed spaces for those that may actually require higher levels of care.

Tuberculosis is caused by a bacteria. We have antibiotics that can treat it - at least for the time being. Covid-19 is a virus and antibiotics don't have any effect on them.

Honestly, TB scares me a hell of a lot more than the current bug!

WARNING: For those of you that are freaking out about Covid-19, the next 2 paragraphs in the quote below may have you curled up in a fetal position in a corner of your house sucking your thumb after you are done reading them. At the risk your own mental health, proceed with caution if you continue reading past this point.

From Wikipedia:
About 10% of latent infections progress to active disease which, if left untreated, kills about half of those affected.[1] The classic symptoms of active TB are a chronic cough with blood-containing mucus, fever, night sweats, and weight loss.[1] It was historically called "consumption" due to the weight loss.[8] Infection of other organs can cause a wide range of symptoms

As of 2018 one-quarter of the world's population is thought to be infected with TB.[6] New infections occur in about 1% of the population each year.[12] In 2017, there were more than 10 million cases of active TB which resulted in 1.6 million deaths.[7] This makes it the number one cause of death from an infectious disease.[7] More than 95% of deaths occurred in developing countries, and more than 50% in India, China, Indonesia, Pakistan, and the Philippines.[7] The number of new cases each year has decreased since 2000.[1] About 80% of people in many Asian and African countries test positive while 5–10% of people in the United States population test positive by the tuberculin test.[13] Tuberculosis has been present in humans since ancient times

this pandemic is not about who is strongest anyway it's about who is the most prepared. who planned ahead.
For some reason this made me think of Rudyard Kipling's poem, If:

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

Keep calm and carry on!
