Well, I was thinking about starting off in the domain name industry. It was 2013 and I started off with INR 3000 ($50).
I even forgot to apply coupon codes and bought 7 domains, only to let them expire after a year.
I pumped in another $100 the next year, which is when I had my first sale of a Las Vegas geo-domain name.
And then used the same money to invest and build things up.

How about you? How much did you start your journey with?

$200, quite recently.

Planning to ramp up investment in the near future.

I have unrelated sources of income so I guess I'm lucky. Or maybe just hardworking :xf.smile:

around $25 (1500 INR) in 2016 bought several promo regs mostly of .net and .in i was not sure of this business so didn't want to risk much, first sale of around $500 used it to build what is there today, first intended as part time then eventually made it full time.

$70 for a registration in 1998. Network Solutions I believe. Was $35 per year and mandatory 2 year registration, did not see any way to register a name for only one year back then.

Received a phone call with an offer 4 months later and I was hooked! Had no idea it would progress to this! :)

$5 2006. Browsing and find article about sale domain and the next day Register LLLL.com (sold here $25) from local registrar (Indonesia). Post auction here payment via moneybooker (now Skrill), buyer only accept Paypal so i register Paypal. And my selling domain journey start from there.

The 7th domain i bought for $2 3weeks later was the 1st I sold. Invested the proceedings.

We're your domain was bought from aftermarket or handreg? Very impressive stats 25 sales from 60 domains within 7 months.

All handreg Except 2.
I make sales then I add to portfolio, so it's not 25 sales, from 60.
It means I've been selling and adding to portfolio along the way.
Now at over 60

$150 in 2015, at the end of 2016 I disengaged I thought I was late to the game and I was going to withdraw and let all domains expire, in mid-2017 I achieved my first sale for $ xxx, motivate me a little and returned to the game .. At the end of 2017, the biggest momentum came to get my second sale $ xxxx, and since then we are in this world(y)(y)

About $300 in 2017. All hand-reg.

Managed to sell my first and only domain then for $1650. Dropped the rest. After that, I then moved on to purchasing mostly from GoDaddy auctions and other low priced domains.

With less than 200 names, I can say, it has been an interesting journey. The good kind

$1650 for a hand-reg in less than 1 year is pretty great. Was it a brandable name, or a more generic one?

I had a lot more to spend than I do now and boy do I wish I had bought more. I had about 20 domains to start in 98. Spent silly money on banks of computers which since like domaining over hosting webmastering I wish I chose my path sooner not regretting all choices.

I start with $ 1, then domain sold for $ 500 for 5 month later. Only buy new domain when some of portfolio was sold, not interested in any trend

$300 in 2017
You are an inspiration Sir!

That must be a damn good portfolio. Are you still holding onto some of your 1996 acquisitions?
You must have some huge sales under you belt, isn't it?

$400 in 2004
You must have benefitted from the time parking was a business

Would love you hear your story. Perhaps start a thread as to how you went about it?

So how has it been since then? Did you take a break or you've been at it since then?

Have that in mind. But intend to wait until I'm a year old in domaining.
Thanks(y)
