Are you going to be buying more hyphen .COM domains in late 2019?

Just sold sushi-man.com from an Epik SSL lander for $4200. This is one of Epik's O&O domains. I don't normally report sales but these days we are routinely asking for $10K+ for good hyphen .COM names and seeing sincere engagement.

The great gTLD experiment has been run. I now routinely sell even ccTLD registrants are upgrading from their ccTLD to .COM if they can afford it. I was late to acknowledge it but the risk-reward equation for speculators overwhelmingly favors .COM.

When it comes to hyphenated .COM, SEO is your friend. I recommend to use SSL landers but any SEO lander will probably do the trick to drive inquiries.

I sent a list a while ago, Epik didn't buy any, but later I got a loan based on a longer list. This could mean, maybe they were willing to pay $20 per domain on average, not bad for handregs, but I think there is much bigger potential, but still none was sold after 6 months, so this means some outbounding needed, but because of the corona I may have to drop most before being able to sell. Loan paid back. Both parties made profit from this indirectly. "Direct profit for both" would be: selling on Epik marketplace. Maybe because of using BIN option this failed, would make offer work better? They have contact form there. I don't like that there is captcha. Instead of captcha, a simple arithmetic question would work better. Like 12+8, only require captcha from abusing IPs. Also the part saying we accept these payment options, should be above the fold. It would add some trustability... Outbounding is a must, you may not receive a response, but sale rate can jump from 1 percent to 10 percent. I can't imagine how lazy I'm. I delayed this thing full 6 months, delayed other stuff 2 years, and delayed a few things 20 years.
.....
edit: maybe not from that list, but another very similar one was sold at epik marketplace for low 3 figures (maybe outbound-inbound mix).

I agree with Rob. I have had success with hyphenated names since day one - about 18 years ago. Kind of under the radar - nothing more than $1k, but easy sells. And when you pick them up at $5, they are nice. I sold BBQ-Ribs.com for $1k several years ago. Then saw it back on aftermarket a couple years later and picked it up again for $5. And sold it AGAIN. Rinse and repeat.

that show to me it's great domain

Yeah, I have sold most if not all of my hyphenated to Germans. You guys prefer hyphens over non-hyphenated. And I have seen five and six words long that stretch the entire rear end of a car. Amazing! I have for instance BierHaus.org but you would probably prefer Bier-Haus.org?

it's not that simple
it depends
it's "fake news" that germans prefer hyphens
as it is a little more complex

yes, sometimes hyphens are better than no-hyphens

but this one
Bier-Haus.org
is as bad as
BierHaus.org

I spend six months per year in Germany (all I am allowed) and always looking at domains being used. I see mostly hyphenated. Not just a stereotype. Sure the big companies have acronyms and their single word .de, but mostly the others hyphenate the domain rather than putting them together. Lots of word plays too and the hyphens separate these sometimes very long word combo names. And not a stereotype that most or all of my hyphenated names go to Germans. Nothing wrong with that at all. Just a preference and I am happy with it.
