I can see a number of these getting picked up - there a few others I'm surprised they accepted the high reserve and can't see selling because of it. What do you think?

Question: are these newly acquired domains (from Sibernames) locked for the next 60 days?

I think you got a very good buy Rob. I own canadian bacon ca and get frequent enquiries/offers on it.

Canadian Bacon :) Congrats.

Thanks, I know there's not really a lot of demand for bacon online, and there aren't really many developed sites or businesses about bacon in Canada. To be honest it was more just an impulse thing which I hope will someday pay off.

Just thought of something...Mary.ca sold today and Jane.ca sold a few weeks ago LOL. Wonder if the buyers are connected?

haha, interesting thought, I kinda doubt it though.

Yes, no transfers for 60 days on new registrations.

But who went home with Mary?

And wow, talk about a downer after all the fireworks of the past few TBRs. I just went through what's on there for next week (almost 4K domains) and I didn't see a single one I'd buy.

Well that's disappointing... That tells me the guy dropping them suddenly realized and started renewing again...

Willpower.ca sold for 3700 USD via Sedo yesterday. There should be a couple other new sales showing soon enough:

That’s what I always thought but wasn’t sure if it was consistent across all registrars. Is it possible in some cases, or could they at least be pushed to another account at Sibernames? That wouldn’t count as a transfer would it?

Names can be pushed into another Sibername account. They just can’t be transferred out for 60 days. I am just not sure if the 60 rule is CIRA’s or the Registrar. If it’s the Registrar, I think they need to change that on dropped domains from the TBR’s.

So ILK.CA sold for $175? And EMF.CA for $400? OMG!

And wrap your brain around this one.

So far there are 1,506 3-character domains dropping on this week's TBR.. so far... with the vast majority being mixed-case domains.

It’s quite obvious it was the same person who dropped most given the patterns.

Definitely, and even at a best-case scenario of a $1 each, this was still a terrible play, as you could buy a lot of great names off the TBR for $1500.

Hopefully it was a $1 discount deal but I noticed that most were bought in 2015-2016, and many even earlier, so he/she definitely spent a shit ton of money to keep these for that long. Hopefully they made a few sales to justify some of it.

I agree they should drop that restriction for TBRs, or at least keep the domain's original registration date. It kinda sucks how you might pay $XXXX for a TBR, only to have whois make it seem like you just bought it yesterday as a handreg. Of course it can be explained if someone ever mentions it, but still.

A bit off-topic, I also recently learned that Sedo won't push a .CA to the same registrar. In other words, any .CA sold at Sedo must be transferred to a different registrar than where the seller has it registered at.

For example, I made a deal to sell a domain and the buyer wanted to use Sedo for the transaction. I had the domain at Godaddy, and the buyer wanted the domain to stay at Godaddy, but we got a message from the Sedo transfer agent saying it wasn't possible:

I presume it is to make sure the Canadian presence requirements are enforced by registrar, but no real reason Sedo could not do that themselves. I had not realized this rule and good to know.
