Hi,

I just signed up today and am reading through the various threads. Because I know nothing, I'm trying to learn and understand. So far, I just feel like everyone on here is well seasoned in domain buying/selling and it is like you're speaking another language! Lol.

I watched a video on buying and selling domains. My guess is, I'm already not doing this right. But I'm eager to figure it out! Any friendly tips would be much appreciated! For instance, I've noticed on some threads a discussion about "what's hot" and everyone seems to understand how to find that out? I do not. What are you searching to know something is good?

I bought a domain today that I was thinking might be good? It is less than 15 letters, common words, kinda cute and ends in a ".com". But as I read through everyone's experienced comments (on other threads), now I'm way worried I just wasted my limited resources!

Thanks to any willing to reach out to me.

Hello and welcome to nps! Take your time and put the brakes on regging names until you have spent MANY hours here using the search function to learn.

There is a lot of info here so break out a pen and notepad and jot down things that resonate with you as you read...there is no rush to register names...domaining is a marathon, not a race.

Hi @smartymcparty .. and welcome to NamePros! :)

As @Mister Funsky mentioned, you definitely want to start very VERY slowly. Do NOT take the advice of any single video. Most people don't make money domaining, and most of the ones who do operate with domains that are in a much higher budget range. There are a few of us who operate and profit with "regular people" domains, but not many.

Don't stress too much however .. as ironically it's good news if you already think you could be doing something wrong after buying just a single domain. It's an unfortunately fact that for many people it can take hundreds of domains before they realise they need to take a step back and refocus. 99% of new domainers start out making at least some mistakes .. and unfortunately most aren't even aware of it.

Definitely take a look at some of the threads geared to helping newcomers get started:
https://www.namepros.com/threads/popular-beginner-discussions.844937/

Also, if you do a lot of walking, then you definitely want to go back check out the last several years of Domain Sherpa Reviews podcasts. There is no absolute path to domain profits, but there are many paths to domain loses. The best you can do is soak up tons of knowledge and then keep what works for you.

Best of luck going forward! :)

Welcome.

As for buying some weak domains, don't worry, it is a rite of passage -- we have all done it early in our domaining career. The fact that you showed up here puts you way ahead of the curve!

FYI, note the free online domaining course here:

Written by industry veterans and a decent primer.

Hello!

There are various approaches to the buying of domains, such as " fast flipping " or holding domains for long term investments.

There are various approaches to selling domains and there are many platforms that are used to offer domains for sale.

It is, IMO, best for a person to decide what type of domain sales are of interest to them and try and buy names suitable for that purpose.

It is also important to decide what type of seller you want to be and if have you have the resources and skill set to pursue your preferred selling method.

Welcome to NamePros!
